  • www.gobeyondthe... - There are palm trees and co-eds. There are not beaches, luxury retail shopping centers, streets to cruise, or hot nightclubs. You are in north Florida. This means rolling red hills, mudding, lots of drinking, and wilderness hikes.

I graduated from FSU in 1973. I met my wife there and we have been married for 43 years. I have visited the campus dozens of times since graduation and enjoyed reminiscing each time. Go Noles!!!

Wow. I never heard that. It's the first time I've heard that FSU = UF in terms of the education. Interesting.

adangme this is true. Slightly better students tend to go to UF, but the education and opportunities are really interchangeable. The same companies recruit out of both FSU and UF. The same cannot be said about other Florida schools however.

Hi, I’m going to FSU in the Fall and am trying to decide if I want to get a scooter. My Dad says he will get me one if I want, but I’m wondering If I could do without one because I’m concerned about the safety issues. Would you say it would make my life easier if I do get one? And do you think Tallahassee is a safe place for scooter drivers?

Don't sleep on my hometown.Even though it can be boring at times, but when it's a party going on or concert in town your going to have a good time. I've had friends from Miami that always loved to come to Tally for the weekend to party, they loved it. Also I live in Central FLA now, and Everytime I tell someone that I'm from Tally they. Treat me like a star, they always talk about the good times they had in Tally back in their days..lol Tally is what you make it.

Exactly. Im from Atlanta (born and raised Ga peach!!) and it always irritated me when people clowned Tallahassee....frankly idk why people hate it so much. You have three huge schools here so there are always events, festivals, hop and skip away from the beach, list goes on....people are bugging. Half of the time when people live in bigger cities they end up just watchin Netflix on the weekends anyway, soooooo why all the hate? Been in Tally 7 years in August and I love it here (EXCEPT for high plane tickets lol). Came for school, stayed for the job.

Omg he isn't lying about Alumni Village not being in the best area. When I lived there when I was a gradate student, there was a crack house literally across the street from the bus stop outside of the village's fence. But I actually never had a problem. Tbh you kinda had to take a nole or city bus to get to school anyway, unless you were okay with walking about 45min to get to your classes. Sadly, the Village in 2014 closed due to the cost of projected renovations. I was heartbroken when the final decision was made because I had fond memories of living there. Quiet and quaint and full of history (they were built after the war to help veterans go back to school and have a place to live with their families). It wasn't fancy by ANY means, but it was sturdy and had the basic necessities...Im a low maintenance gal, so I never had a reason to complain. Plus there was always security there because there were two daycares on campus. Never had an issue with anything popping off around there. It's strange now to drive by and see nothing but a wisp of what used to be....alas. I will be going back for another graduate degree in the fall...I bleed Garnet and Gold. 😎

I agree with you on all points. Alumni Village provided inexpensive housing for so many mature, international, graduate, and married students. FSU rationalized demolishing it by saying that there are so many other alternative housing options in Tallahassee. I would disagree. Housing at Alumni Village was easy to arrange in advance, was far less expensive than most alternatives, was on a bus line, was more quiet than most apartment complexes, and provided opportunities for the children who lived there to meet and play with other children and mature students to meet and interact with other mature students.
