- In Episode 3 of Mayer Time, host George Mayer is joined by John Reardon, founder of Collectability-a platform dedicated to collectors interested in vintage and pre-owned Patek Philippe watches. Reardon shares insight on the brand’s rich history dating back hundreds of years, looking beyond present-day hype around Nautilus and Aquanaut models and uncovering the vastness of vintage Patek Philippe. Together they talk about navigating the modern watch world, discovering the value in distinct collections such as Patek Philippe’s Ellipse (5738), and how to find reputable online resources for an informed collector experience.
A variety of other topics related to the family-owned Genevan luxury watch manufacturer are discussed, including the Patek Philippe Museum and 2022’s upcoming Watches & Wonders.

I can't watch George without thinking of that video where he and Danny bragged about buying up all of the pre-owned Journes on the market so they could basically control the prices. They deleted it soon after, but Pepperidge Farms remembers.
John is a fantastic Patek expert. Love his work on Collectability and he is a really nice guy, Great to see him on Watchbox
Thank you for introducing us to John Reardon. What a treasure when it comes to Patek Philippe. I am in the market for PP but the secondary market prices have scared me away. Maybe John can help me find a PP at an affordable price.
Did he reach out to you a give you a hand?
@@porkchopexpress6969 John and I have communicated via email. He is very responsive.
John is a legend of the game!
Always a pleasure to listen to John! A true connoisseur and living encyclopedia when it comes to Patek.
Great episode! Mayer Time always delivers and John is a fun and knowledgable guest. More of these in the future!
Watch Box and Collectability… What a great fit!!
Mr Reardon, total gentleman
I don't know that Man John. But I would like to know him.. he has my respect because he has really great logic about all watches. it's about what you feel when you hold that watch in your hand that count. not always about the brand or prestige .. a watch collection should be an extension of your personality. ..Thanx for the interview, I enjoyed it immensely...
What an enjoyable episode as always.
George always manages to draw his interviewee out with all his nuanced questions.
And what a marvellous passion John Reardon has - I wish I had his knowledge about Patek watches.
Looking forward to many more Mayer Time episodes :)
I always enjoy your videos. I recently purchased a 1924 18k open-faced pocket watch. It’s absolutely beautiful!
As always John Reardon is beacon of light in the dark world of watch collectors (read investors).
Great interview with two experts. I was struck by the pronunciation battle: PAT-eck versus puh-TECK. I’m glad they can agree on Philippe!
THANK YOU GEORGE AND JOHN TRUE WATCH !LOVERS !GREAT..GREAT VIDEO..THIS IS TRUE WATCH COLLECTING. I AM TIRED OF HYPE MEDIA....JOHN IS THE BEST PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS.....YOU SHOULD DO YOUR OWN PATEK COLLECTOR COMMUNITY VIDEOS....
I haven’t even watched this yet - saving it for later - but John is the most passionate watch guy I have ever seen. Watch his Chrono24 interview as well.
Patek is King 👑
John is king 👑
John has a great RUclips channel, highly recommend it. Very knowledgeable. Also very funny, his how to refill a Patek Phillipe lighter video is absolutely hilarious. You wouldn't think such a learned scholar would be so down to earth but he is.
Great Interview... John always so nice and honest!!! Chapeau!!!
Great episode!!!!
John is amazing, thank you!
Wonderful content, always great to see people so passionate about this hobby.
Great conversation…thank you both!
That was a great interview, thanks! I've always liked the Ellipse, but I've never had the need for a dress watch.
Awesome video and content
I’m a Golden Ellipse convert because of John!
thank you for this! such sensible advice. great to have someone cut through the hype nonsense. I really should have bid on that ellipse that came up at an estate auction in Dublin 2 years ago, would have been a bargain!
If you guys enjoy this then really try our John’s podcast for Collectibility. It’s fantastic.
Mr Mayer didnt really get Johns message I'm afraid. But nice interview anyhow.
from the catalogue at the moment i would only seriously consider the 5236P. i am a devout enthousiast of teal but the Tiffany blue is unobtanium. the 5520P is another great and fantastic watch, it truly is. i am glad it is in their catalogue but for me it lacks the wow factor. maybe if it was in grey i would be inclined to put it on the wishist
I just read a review I did not know john dis hisvown videos will check out
And there are Patek Philippe Neck Ties!
Two watch veterans who seem to think the market is ‘wrong’ for valuing nautilus and aquanaut over Patek’s grand complications. The market wants what it wants and it doesn’t need to fit in with anyone’s ideals. Perhaps the nautilus is hyped for a reason- it has a simple timeless design from a master designer, that can be worn by anyone in any situation. Dress watches are out of style given the move towards ‘business casual’ while complications can cause trouble/ significant expenses down the line, and as such don’t appear to be valued by the market relative to more basic time only models.
PLEASE tell the guy in blue to stop pronouncing the company Pahedeck. PATEK was polish. Pah Tek.
If it's not 70's Patek Ellipse - it's crap.
Someone has to say this: Unfortunately it is known that JR has sold bad watches. Buyer beware.
Dear Up Leverage, First I am hearing this and I expect I would be the first to know if there has ever been any problem with a Patek I have sold. Please reach out to directly to me at john@collectability.com to discuss!
