ahhh, the water-gun fights we had.. Lots of fun!
I was a russ this year, had a lot of fun! One thing they didn’t mention is that there is also several festivals around the country only for the people who are Russ. And people travel from all over the country to go to these festivals. The biggest one is in Stavanger (where I live), and from Friday to Sunday there are 16.000 Russ gathered together partying. Big artists and dj’s are preforming at this festival so it is a big deal. This year we had g-easy, martin Garrix, French Montana and Macklemore + many more! It was INSANE!!
Yeah, I remember traveling from the south to the Ålesund-area that day and there were busses going to Stavanger EVERYWHERE. They probably had to drive the whole day in order to get there haha

you should also have explained why the last day is 17 may and why its a huge deal. the 17 of may is Norways national day with lots of celebrations just like the 4 of july (but a tiny bit more nationalistic and family friendly). that could be discussed in another video tho cuz its a huge thing here in Norway.

You can clearly se refferences to russ in the 1731 play Erasmus Montanus by Ludvig Holberg. Clearly the russ actually have their origins in denmark in the first place, though the way in which we celebrate has changed since then of course. Notice how they said that the partuing in Norway dated from 1905. You know the year Norway got indipendance from sweden. Not a coincidence.

Depends on how strong the alcohol is :) up to 21,9% is 18, but above that there is an age limit of 20 :)
Different countries have different age limits. In the USA, if I remember correctly, it's 21.

I think she sort of misunderstands what is being described. The only thing we really do in Denmark is go around in a bus or sometimes a truck or horse-drawn carriage and drink. Typically takes a couple of days. She heard "bus" and thought, yeah that's the same.
It's not completely the same, but it's much closer than you think! We rent the bus instead of buying it. And we party for like 10 days (or a month if you are in an international class that finished earlier in the year).

One of the more interesting thing about the russe tradition is how the kids collect the russe 'business cards' like their collecting pokemon cards
Know this is old, but my collection now is CA 500 cards-
I've spent alot of time on collecting them and I remember getting my first one :)
I love how every youtube video presents Norway as this super utopian country

It's also worth mentioning that the kids who asks for the cards collect them and use them as trading cards at school. Russes have different colors depending on the type of school they're attending, which of course means there are more say red russ than there are green russ. So if you had a thick stack of green russ cards in 5th grade, you were the coolest kid in class. I had a 4 foot stack of cards at one point but I gave it all away to a friend

Omg at my school russ would sometimes walk through so imagine just walking past minding your business and a bunch of kids run up to you asking for cards
I stopped asking for cards years ago cause I’m too scared to ask a stranger for a card. Now I only ask family members who are russ

Funny how some of them think every other country in the world has the same laws as they do in the US. When you are russ you are either 18 or 19 years old, and at age 18 you are allowed to buy alchohol under 22%.
Fun fact they didnt mention is that the busses have artist make songs for their group, which in some cases can cost up to 60 000usd.

I'm 57 and was a russ when I was young. And my daughter is 25, she was having a blast on her celebration as russ. Then went into the military after. Police in Norway celebrated as russ too, all of them, so they understand. 😊

and also a fun tradition in my city, is waking the teachers up the night of 17 of may. we went around with over a 100+ graduates waking up the principal and the teachers at 3-4 in the morning, refusing to leave before they come out and introduce themselves

so every year there are a variety of new songs that belong to each group, the songs and busses also compete in becoming that years buss/group for here they are from :)
They have big arrangments all over norway, one day/night they have a whole amusment park for russ with conserts later in the evening.

Being russ was so exciting, and something I had looked forward to foreeeveeer. It gets really exhausting though, little sleep and alot of drinking don’t mix well, haha.
Facts: Not everyone decide to be russ and have a russe-suit/pants. And most who do doesn't have busses but still party and do the crazy russe-knute(challenges). And all other things aswell.

i once (as a kid in elementary school) saw a drunk "russ" fall off the top of his bus and split his head open. the ambulance barely arrived because it was 17.mai (norways 4.july just a lot bigger), and the streets were flooded with people and busses
Many people get beat up so bad that it makes them sick for the rest of their life and they even got beat up for no reason at all
