Hi Lyall, once again I thank you for this treasure trove of resources. Since the RUclips algorithm introduced me to your channel, I have gutted and rebuilt 2 Deluxe Reverbs, diagnosed and fixed several other Fenders, Marshalls, and a Ceriatone, and most recently gutted and rebuilt a sad old Bassman Ten into the hybrid AA864/AB165 in this series, all while trying to adhere to your exacting standards. You are an inspiration, best wishes to you and your family.
Modified my dad‘s; put in a power transformer that supports a tube rectifier. Made it switchable cathode and fixed bias. With the rheostat for different tubes in the cathode bias mode. Settled on 6V6 with 5r4 at eight ohms. Had the Marshall channel in the bass section. Turned the deep off and the switch into a bright switch. It was awesome. Good to see one of these again.
Lyle, First off, thank you for the excellent informative videos! Always a pleasure to see a perfectionist in action. I noticed that on both the '66 Bassman hybrids you used ceramic disc for the coupling caps in the converted phase inverter circuits. What's the reason for that choice, and what other type of cap would be appropriate in that position?
I may have answered my own question. Looking at several original AA864's pics, seems Fender used a 500pF ceramic disc here too. On the same subject, I've seen where some have opted to use a 1000pF vs the original 500pF. What's the overall effect of this substitution? Thanks-
Awesome work! Bassmans (Bassmen?) from that era are real hidden gems. Where did you find the little plugs you put in the holes someone drilled for FX loop?
9:12 - One of the Orange Drop cap variants is very "thuddy" on the lows, in my experience, but it's been a long time since I've used them, so I don't remember which one it was. I generally use the yellow Mallory-style caps in my builds....

Thanks man! Glad to be of help.
That hybrid Bassman - why did they never make that? It's just about perfect.
@@PsionicAudio yes I totally agree, imagine this circuit in a single 12" combo, it would be good for almost any situation!

The articulation between the individual notes is very very good.
74' on that power transformer. Thanks for all the great content. I have learned a ton from your videos & FB page.
Thanks Jeff!
Probably the most meticulous stuff ibhave seen on RUclips. Thanks, I've learned a lot! I'd. Love to know where you find that sheilded wire
Love your video's thanks so much for sharing, very nice sounding amp

Beautiful
Lyle I'm looking for period correct or close to filament cloth wire for my 66 Showman. Any good suppliers you can recommend? Thanks

@@PsionicAudio OK great thank you
Love your work ... I have a 70s Bassman in front of me that needs a lot of "love" ... did you use a LarMar MV?
Awesome work! Bassmans (Bassmen?) from that era are real hidden gems. Where did you find the little plugs you put in the holes someone drilled for FX loop?
Most hardware stores have them.
@@PsionicAudio Thanks! I'll swing by mine on the way home from work and see if I can find some!
Do you see much value in the “bear trap” retainers when the tubes are mounted upright like in a head?
Yes, they help secure the tubes in transit and don't hurt the glass like sitting retainer types often do.
Damn you do nice work!
Thanks! That means a lot.
4:06 - "Taught it the words."
LOL - I use that joke a lot. :)

11:50 - That is a really nice sound - full and deep, a little 'scooped', and still good jangle on the top....
