- If you want to troubleshoot a computer that won't turn on, it could be the PC CASE. In this part 1 of of the troubleshoot a computer complete series, we explore reasons why the computer doesn't turn on at all or the computer turns on for a few seconds, then shuts down, or the computer is stuck in a restart loop.
The introduction part of this series deals with 10 common parts of any computer device, and also includes an explanation of how a computer works once its turned on, i.e the boot process.

Just popping in to say THANK YOU!
My PC was crashing at random times, for 2/3 days, before it started crashing continuously (even in BIOS menu with default settings). My first assumption was a faulty power supply, but found it weird how it was very inconsistent (PSUs tend to behave decent until they fail). I send it to someone to fix it, since I didn't have any spare PSU around to test it. Unfortunately they weren't able to find the issue (just wanted to reset my drives?! :|). So I finally manned up and bought a multimeter! PSU was testing perfectly (thanks for the guide). Finally after watching this video decided to start at the very basics, and found that my Reset cable, was exposed (just a tiny little bit), and that was causing the "crashes". Sorry for the long story. So incredible thankful for your guides and incentive!

As a former Avionics Technician on helicopters, I can assure that having the motherboard inside of the computer case is not tight at all comparing to the tightness I had to deal with on helicopters.
Saved my evening dude lol. Swapped out a new PSU and PC wouldn’t boot back up. Turns out I had my power switch in the wrong spot lol. Thanks!

I can't thank you enough. This problem happened before and turns out the wires of the switch were disconnected. A person fixed it and later, after shutting it down, I tried to start it up but it didn't work. I found out what had happened due to your video, thank you!

Great video's. I built a computer for my father a while later it was sitting in the hallway and he had a new one. He took it to a computer store and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Well 1 the power supply was bad. 2 - they unhooked the power button wires and put back incorrectly so even with new power supply it would not work. (idiots) After watching close to you doing the jumper (with screwdriver) did I notice the power wires were incorrect. Now I have a functioning computer again. Thank you so much!

I think what they meant was that the videos are not uploaded in sequence and it's hard for them to navigate. Maybe they don't know about the Playlist feature.

Hello Ash. I have watched this whole video, as well as the intro one. I have a situation where after a few days of the computer being turned off, it boots up and then it shuts off, but on the second attempt, it doesn't do it, meaning that it gets to the Win desktop without any problem. It behaves exactly the same way every time. It's a pre-built HP PC by the way. What would you check in that situation? Or what do you suspect?

I got a MSI MPG Z490 a I7 10700 AND GSKILL ram. At the beginning everything went well but after shutting my PC down and rebooting it five or six times motherboard remained stationary on the logo MPG. I changed the SATA drive with a SSD drive but I had the same things. I installed RAM, HARD DRIVES, POWER SUPPLY on some others PCS and they worked well. Any idea about what it is preventing the complete boot?

I am trying to build a server at home. I keep getting a memory error - 5 short beeps + 1 long beep = no memory detected. I am using the Supermicro motherboard X9SCM-F and I have two 8 Gb memory modules, both are non-ECC Unbuffered. I used other modules and got this same error, so I switched three times - still same error. I have my keyboard, and mouse plugged in, and vga video - no video output because it don't get that far. Any thoughts in Troubleshooting ??
I got ram issue. I upgraded my casing. got like 4 rams total. After case upgrade 2 rams slot working only when i put 4 rams no screen on display. Just all fabs spinning.
With having a short with a screw that mounts the MOBO to the case, couldn't you just use non conductive thin spacers between the MOBO and the screw when attaching it to the case?

I have a Asus hero VIII that won't power off. Shuts down normally and works as expected when in use, but when I click power off it shuts down but doesn't power off. (Fans and lights stay on) Reinstalled windows. Updated bios. No changes. I'm thinking I have a faulty motherboard (CPU has been changed and didn't fix)
Hii, I am having a little trouble turning on my pc
The CPU does starts up and the fan moves and as far as i can say its running coz i can hear audio from the speakers but the screen is black.
Maybe its bcoz my monitor broke or something but I am more worried bcoz one(red) of the two(green and red) light on my CPU isn't blinking the way it usually does.

I click the power button and it loads up to a screen saying “Usb Overcurrent” ive tried everything and I’m literally going crazy, non of my usb’s look damaged and ive also unplugged everything on the motherboard and it didn’t help, I also did a cmos reset took out the battery for a minute but didn’t do much. Any idea? Non of the pins look damaged either.

If I click the power button of my laptop it's turn on then shutting down then turns on again (loop) did you think it is grounded?

Please help. my laptop turning on but it’s keeps restarting after windows logo. I try to format it but the same problem occurs. After windows loading file, windows logo appear then restart.
Disconnect your hard drive to eliminate that as a cultprit, try to boot in with a Linux USB to troubleshoot further!

Got an odd situation. I put the mobo in the case, it does not work. Turn the power on, momentary light on the mobo, short turn of the fans, then stops. I remove the mobo from the case, let it sit for a while, still does not work. Remove all cables from the mobo that is outside of the case, let it sit for a while (30 minutes maybe), reattach the cables, it works. Put it in the case again, does not work. All standoffs have an associated screw into them. No extra standoffs. Ideas?

Oh wait, this situation was solved. I was using mobo screws that were powder coated or something, and I guess not grounding. When I went with metallic looking screws, it started working.
mine doesn't even turn on anymore like there's no electricity going to the mobo. but my psu passed the paper clip test

HealMyTech 8 or 10 pc motherboards tried hp,lenovo and dell. Circumstances some motherboard they doesn't on tried unplug everything then plug 1 by 1. Now i have dell precision desktop pc it freeze on bios screen
HealMyTech no different pc's. I always purchased factory refurb core 2 duo pc due to low budget these pc's have their own power supplys. Now i have dell precision desktop tower workstation t3500 which recently have motherboard issue like on then off in seconds then doesn't turn on anymore so i checked the motherboard from repair person and had it repaired. Now after bios logo screen second screen when pc is checking devices it freezes that point doesnt go on.

Is your ram ddr3 too? Maybe your new ram is ddr4 which will be incompatable with your motherboard. Unless you have low voltage. I think

The more specific the better.
you use the kind of interdisciplinary english language that translates well across personal computer troubleshooting, automotive electrical diagnostics or consumer electronic repair. they're attempting to get more people to have this critical thought and ability to see the big picture but I think it only comes from poverty or ingenuity. good luck in your health battle and stay scrappy

Alright. Which parts do you think are unnecessary? Ive been removing the fluff in my recent live sessions for this series, and i will compile them as a new full troubleshoot upload once i reach part 10, hopefully that should do the trick.
