I'll never understand Zidane getting this huge hype for being an elegant player, and Rui Costa being barely remembered. Specially since Costa's prime was in Serie A when Zidane also played there. (And Costa was better).
Check the silverware and you'll see why. Trophies aside, Zidane was much more elegant and a considerably better dribbler. Rui Costa was a marginally better passer.
The reason why Rui Costa is most likely forgotten by many is because he valued loyalty more than status and prestige. Rui Costa stayed with Benfica and Fiorentina until they were on the verge of bankruptcy. He never wanted to leave those clubs. After leaving Benfica he almost joined Barcelona and could have played with his national teammate Luis Figo, but chose Fiorentina because they had the higher bid. Rui Costa wanted to help Benfica.
I'm i the only one that misses those types of curved shots like the one at 1:15 nowadays , i used to see them frequently in the past its rare now even the players known for shots similar to this doesn't have the curve as much from the past , or maybe i'm just nostalgic although as much as i tried i can't shake that observation

I will be honest with you mate, I am Portuguese and I love Rui Costa, but in my opinion, Modric was miles better than him. Its just my opinion, dont judge me, but Modric is more complete. Rui Costa would struggle to play in today's football because he wasnt intense...for ex he smoked and he had troubles in defensive transitions. Its always a pleasure talking to you
