SWORDFISH. SUNFISH. MAKO. This trip was full of surprises!

6.4.22 ⚔️ Second sword for the season and in as many days has been an achievement. Finally got a good hook set and then the only Mako shark we've seen all year turns up just as we hit top-shot 😔 Taking the entire tail from the tiny second dorsal fin resulting in a devastating end to the 1hr:10 fight that was otherwise looking good for tag and release. Not what we hoped for but we did however have time to swap applicators and pop a tag in the free swimming Mako as it circled around the boat 🦈
If the day hadn't already been interesting enough, how about accidently hooking a god-knows how heavy Sunfish! Aka Mola mola, the world largest bony fish. 40 minutes of pumping and winding on 18+kg of drag to set this beautiful creature free, unfortunately with the bait still attached. Adult sunfish can grow to 250-2,000kg! This fish was incredibly heavy and there wasn't a great opportunity to cut the bait off as well without stressing this fish even more. It wont take long for that to shake it and back to the bottom she went. Quite an incredible experience. Thanks for watching! @itswizza
