- Purchased this at a Re-Store. Excellent original condition. Contains all of its original date coded RCA tubes. Had to clean and adjust turntable, and it sounds great! Hope you enjoy! Video by Samsung phone, sorry for poor quality.
A fine RCA console this is too. This was when RCA still cared about sound reproduction. 3 way speaker system bass, midrange, tweeters were intact at 45 degree angles to help with soundstage and imaging for that person that likes being sweet spot and also help with that off axis response in the room. A very nice piece of history! I hope it’s still serving you well. 👍👍

I just purchased the exact same model stereo on E bay last week near me for $100.00. All original RCA tubes dated 63-48. Has never been recapped and has no noise. Turntable needs work, has original paperwork too. Amp 177J and tuner 1211A. Beautiful woodwork. watching this video help make the purchase decision. I have 8 consoles now. Hang tag says 58 watts Maximum, 32 Watts EIA. Recap is in the future.

RCA Curtis Mathes and Magnavox made beautiful things back in the day it's a real beautiful piece of furniture and a wonderful surprise inside❤😂😂😂😂❤ if you were able to afford one of these way back when people thought you were rich or you had a really good job or something was going really great it sounds amazing or hey maybe you were rich the old-school stereos were completely these best big gorgeous and beautiful my grandmother had a big beautiful Curtis Mathes I miss that thing today all these years later❤ this RCA here👍👏👏 sounds really amazing
Great selection for demo, I'd like to hear Glen Swing. I intercepted a Neighbor up the street taking His fathers 1965, The Fisher cabinet to the curb, I said can I have it, he rolled it to my house and thanked me because his heart wasn't in trashing his dead Fathers memory in Stereo.So I'm hear to learn how to fix turntable Garrard 121 Mk2 drop in turn table. Listening to The Fisher stereo Christmas music. Can't believe the quality sound. I also love the warm glow of the tubes and dusty smell as it warms up! To Cool, I was 11 in 1965 and have old 78's and newer 70's vinyl, all scratchy but will due 4 now 😎
Those speakers are absolutely, stunning, My Brother. An absolutely, gorgeous stereo system and piece of furniture. Who in their right mind, would want to get rid of this. WOW!
Also, I absolutely, agree with the workmanship of things 40 and 50 years ago. Pretty much, everything is crap today. Shadily made with not an ounce of character to it.

My neighbor gave me this cabinet, it was gutted, was looking for what year etc it was. I put my guitar amp in the box, which you can blue tooth to, and I can play music through it still. Thanks for the info, your looks and sounds great.

I just subscribed to your Channel. I have just started restoring some turntables and collecting sixties and seventies console stereo cabinets. I have two so far and you just don't find many women working on these or collecting them but I love love love music, especially the warm sound of a vintage turntable. Do you have a model # on this turntable.

Fascinating, love the old consoles, how do you ever find spare tubes and parts? I love how people hold onto stuff, keep it in playing condition and forward to future generations something of quality instead of throwaway electronics made in china.

I have this exact same unit, given to me by my grandmother. I even have the original operating instructions, floor tag and turntable paper. Only trouble is I can't really use it. It still turns on and plays the radio fine, but after 5-10 minutes it starts to make a loud humming noise which eventually drowns out the music. The turntable also works and it still has both needles however the needle arm won't move to the record at all. I tested it manually and it won't move on the record either. It plays, but only where the needle currently is stopped. It is probably in dire need of cleaning inside but I don't want to attempt it myself and damage anything. I'd love to restore it but can't find anyone in my area who still specializes in that sort of thing. In fact your video is all I could find about this particular unit at all on the web. Great video!

I've found, with a little tinkering, and RCA changers of this era with the three and a half inch high spindle, I can fit a Telefunken 38L 45 adaptor, with the more commonplace double record shelves, and that will operate with the balance left raised, allowing repeat play of the top in the stack. You can't quite do that with the 45 adaptor RCA designed for this line.

That is a beautiful stereo you have there. The chrome is something else and it sounds great.....I just picked up a 1953 Zenith Cobramatic 7K20 tube stereo with record player. I bought it at a Goodwill. It needs a bit of work. I was thinking about gutting it and installing all modern equipment, but after seeing your video, I want to refurbish it and preserve it in its original form....I could find very little information about my model online. I'm new to refurbishing old stereos, so do you have a suggestion of how to start, what I should do, how much does it usually cost; price range wise? Thanks!
If you can do the work yourself usually $25-50 for all new capacitors, that's where to start, especially the filter capacitors that filter the DC once the AC has been converted to DC. These capacitors are important and cause the low deep hum most units exhibit after years of age. At usually over 400 volts it can be dangerous so do your ho,eWorld before attempting repair. Glad to hear you're saving it!
The 1968 RCA that I found has that "low hum" that you speak of. Makes me feel nostalgic. I need to replace the needle, but have only replaced those from past stereos I had in the 70's and 80's and I do not want to mess up the arm. Nothing like listened to the radio on it. Looking forward to one day being able to play all the vinyl I used to listen to growing up.

Now It started a cracking sound then a big one it comes on but I can only hear it if I put my ear to the speaker. I can't find any one to fix it. I wonder if it can be fixed? I miss it what a great sound it had!!
It can be fixed. Is the problem on both speakers? Is the problem on radio and phonograph?
Everything works the sound will not come up. I can hear it if I put my ear to the speker. I have turned it on a few times and the sound will come up a little then fade away.
Ada Rodgers I would check the tubes on the amplifier. When tubes get weak, they can fade out like that. You’ll need a tube tester of course.
Thanks for the info. Where would I find a tube tester? I turned it on this morning after a few minutes it came on so I thought I would see how long it would stay on. After about 15 minutes it smelled like something was getting hot by the radio. I turned it off. After a while I turned it on again and I could hardly hear it again.
Ada Rodgers well first and foremost any electronics of this vintage should have the capacitors replaced. These dry up and get out of tolerance over time and can cause tubes to fail, higher than engineered voltages that can cause blown fuses and/or a fire. I’ve found tube testers at my local thrift/antique stores or flea markets. Also eBay naturally. Your console is telling you it’s time for a tune-up basically.
That playing compartment is immaculate. Did you detail it or was it that clean when you bought it? Very, very nice.
45Victrola It's all original. Just a vacuum to the record compartment and some light furniture polish to the cabinet. It has been sold to a friend who enjoys it a great deal

Is it possible for me to install a changer like this in my Aunts RCA SHC-4? I think I like this style changer better than the original one. More stylish looking in my opinipn.
Also to a good idea if you haven't yet is have the amps all restored and recapped, and put new cross over caps in the speaks, these were the top of the line rca for 63 this and the one I have
I'll definitly recap this, it is a fantastic unit. I'm almost done restoring a 1959 Magnavox, and then I have a Telefunken and Grundig to do, busy, busy, busy.
Thanks for your answer. I ck. what you told me about the rubber cushion. Is it a black piece of rubber behind the needles? There is no spring to it. I think it is supposed to push the needle forward and it don't do it. It has a indent in the center. I got it to work a few times. Thanks for your help.
Very nice! I'm helping a buddy get a 1963 RCA 199A amp working again. New tubes and electrolytics but left channel is very very weak with a low freq buzz. Right channel is Crystal clear. Looking for another 199A amp
Barrie Fraley try switching the rca cables coming from the preamp, they have a tendency to fail and cause this issue
HiFi Enthusiast thanks for that pointer. We swapped speakers and both speakers worked. I added Bluetooth to the tape input as this console did not have the tape feature installed. The left channel has the issue regardless of source. Thats why I went for the output amp. Checked all point to point on the 199A for cold solder joints but didn't find any. Right channel sounds great. Cleaned all connections and pots with deoxit gold.
Hey, I recently bought a rca victor console, I think it is from 1964. I'm having trouble finding anything! I really want to restore it because it is not in working condition. Do you know where I can find information about it or where I can look for parts. If you could give any information about it that would be fantastic. The model I believe is vht 44
does the front of the tonearm have a little pad to let the needle track accurately?
Great find! If I had the money and the time, I’d be doing what you’re doing. Now. I’ve got to wag my finger at you over one thing. NEVER touch the grooves of a record with your fingertips! Oils from your fingers are placed on the record surface. This traps dust and works to degrade your LP. Always hold a record using only the outside edge. Find a good record cleaner also.

This is beautiful, I have one that has a different console finish but same insides, interface looks identical. How did you remove the turntable? Are your knobs plastic or metal?
Unfortunately I have sold this unit but miss it much. I have restore a lot of vintage electronics, and from memory, most if not all turntables I removed had three or four long screws underneath with a piece on the end you could just turn parallel with the screw then lift straight up, after disconnecting the power/audio cable of course. I want to say the knobs felt like aluminum, but not 100% sure. I had two consoles with the same guts...see my other video.
I have inherited this exact console. It is in great shape as well however I can;t use the turntable because it does have a cartridge or needle. Please advise where I can get the cartridge and needle?

That sounds fantastic! I also have an RCA Victor and it’s very similar to yours with the same exact turntable. Ive been restoring it and finally have everything in working order, except, it keeps repeating the same couple seconds no matter what record I put on. I even purchased the users manual for the turntable that I found on eBay but it wasn’t much help with solving that specific problem. Any tips? HELP!

HiFi Enthusiast well it’s a small mixture of things. I can’t get the record to drop on its own so I have to manually lower it and when the tone arm lifts and starts moving toward the record it stops and drops back in its resting place. When I manually place the arm on the record it just continually plays the same 2 seconds over and over it never progresses. I’ve tried new and old records but it’s the same result. I have the manual for the turntable that breaks down all the parts but I’m not sure what parts to look at to fix this problem.
Michelle Loveland this sounds like a common problem with record players of this vintage. The underneath of the player has many sliding/moving parts to keep the changer and tonearm movement operational. Over time, the grease that lubricates these moving parts hardens and causes the issues you describe. The old grease needs to be removed, clean the moving parts, and reapply fresh lube. It’s a tedious job, but it can be done with time/patience. Do not bend or adjust any parts until this maintenance has been completed as you may cause further trouble. I use a lot of q-tips and alcohol.

gamecockbri I have sold this unit when I moved, can't remember what cartridge I used. I do remember there is a small black plastic piece that pushes in on the front underneath of the tone arm, maybe that's what you may be missing

I have a stereo cabinet to but I want to know how can I make my turntable sound come out it is hazard for the a MAFMAM radio and it says tape but it is mocha had a tape player before so I don’t the turntable works but I just want to know how I can make it work thank you
Turntable has to be connected to phono input only due to impedance of cartridge. I’m not entirely clear on the issue of your turntable. Check wire connections, check phono input, check cartridge, etc..
Hey there. I have an old Delmonico Nivico record player that says Consolette stereo phonograph Model 218EA-Multiplex. Victor company of Japan. and I believe it's one of those mini consolette.. but I've searched and searched online and only found one that looks like it and it was a 219EA nivico.. Is there a reason why I can't find that model anywhere online and why do I only see a handful on the web that look similar to time.. I apologize but I'm just wasting my time searching the web. it also has a honey oak look to it., and only seen one like it. Any information would be well appreciated.. please and thank you.

Hoesuee Goldn The majority of turntables I repair, if not all, have become unusable due to the old grease(lubrication) drying brittle after many years. The turntable needs to be removed, all old grease removed and re-lubricated with fresh grease. Also inspect the rubber idler wheel under the platter for hardness and out of roundness.

It took me a while to figure mine out. I remember listening to what I think was a Magnavox that my folks had from 1966 but I could not remember how to turn such a stereo on. I just started turning and pulling the dials as if I were 5 years old and then it turned on. "Oh, that's how those things turn on. Now I remember doing that."

I have a RCA stereo console I bought in 1963 it has worked good all these years. It looks exactly like this one. I changed the needle a few month ago. Now it will let the record down but the arm goes over to play the record and slides off the record. I have to lift it up and put it in the record. It still sounds great. I wonder what is wrong with it.
I can't find anyone that knows how to repair it.
If this started after needle replacement, make sure the needle itself is full seated in the center position on the little rubber cushion. Also, it helps to push in with your thumb on the brass part of the needle where the two needles meet together, this will cause the selected needle to be closer to the record, it seems to be a common problem on this model. I can record a video showing this if you need help, let me know.

Well it is a tube console, but most buyers will want to recap the amp and preamp if it's never been done, which is a fairly tedious task. In the condition you're describing $80-100 is fair. Double if recapped and working properly. Please remember, consoles are like cars, they don't all have the same value. Make, year, tubes, etc. all contribute to its value.
