For the last fourteen years Other Voices has been capturing musical performances in intimate spaces. The TV show and music festival which began in Dingle, Ireland has travelled to London, New York, Derry, Latitude Festival and Ireland's premier music festival, Electric Picnic.
Dad passed away today. 95. He was our Caractacus Pott. Sang this to us. He was my Dick Van Dyke. RIP. ❤
Richard Sherman, who wrote this song, just died. He wrote Chim Chim Cheree, A Spoonful of Sugar, Trust in Me, I Wanna Be Like You and just about all the songs you loved as a kid. RIP Richard Sherman.

It’s from my favorite movie when I was a kid, called chitty chitty bang bang (I think it came out in the 60s, but I was watching in in the mid 2000s).

Favourite childhood film. I sing this to my toddler every time I do bedtime. He demands it and it instantly soothes him to sleep. This is a truly magical version. Mind you, RH can do no wrong. Female vocals are entrancing. Love it .

Lisa’s voice is sorta husky and raspy yet she makes it sound so smooth and beautiful. kinda hard to explain.

Always loved this song from the film, but Lisa and Richard turn it into a beautiful and haunting performance, its magical truly is.
Was just searching for "Hushabye Mountain" from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and discovered this video. Wow! Awesome performance. Now I need to look up other songs by these singers.
If you haven't come across Lisa in particular then you are in for a real treat! She used to sing with Damien Rice but to our great benefit that did not finish well and she went out on her own. Enjoy!!

Same. For some reason I hadn't thought of that song since I heard it as a child from the movie. Never thought it I'd find a greatly improved version. Not knocking Dick Van Dyke's version. He did well too.
I'm going to weigh-in for the Hawley corner here (not that it's a choice, they're both astounding singers). Richard guest starred on 'The Fix' on Elbow's album 'Seldom Seen Kid' also. His solo career is the greatest presence in my musical life and I'd fully encourage you to check out 'Open Up your door', 'As the Dawn Breaks', Standing at the Sky's Edge', 'The Ocean' and anything else you find (those choices are based on you liking this song.) Enjoy!

I always knew that this was a song waiting to happen but that it wasn't in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. These two (and the band) completely nail it, revealing it to be as extraordinary a song as I oft suspected.

Dick Van Dyke is an actor who first sang this song in the movie " Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" in the 60s, he also starred " Mary Poppins. This beautiful version of Hushabye Mountain features Lisa Hannigan and was recorded in Dingle County Kerry Ireland in St James Church, a lovely tiny venue that has seen Amy Winehouse and Jarves Cocker and lots of othe artists play here.
