  • This is the Bayview Rd level crossing in Hastings with footage I took in July 2017 and May 2018. This crossing used to service the Cresco siding on the Long Island Junction, just off the Stony Point Line, north of Hastings. This siding has not been used for many years, and a block of wood is fixed on the track on the eastern side to prevent trains running along it. The rails are now rusty and overgrown, but all signals remain in place
    This crossing has:
    - A McKenzie & Holland teardrop bell
    - Westinghouse cross-arms on the eastern side of the crossing, and a McKenzie & Holland cross-arm on the western side of the crossing
    - A mix of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights on each signal
    - McKenzie & Holland bases
We can assume that there is a provision to use this crossing in the future, as the crossing still has its rails embedded in the road and all signals are intact. This crossing also has various modern features which further back up this claim, including cross-bucks with red rectangular backgrounds and LED lights. There is even Google Street View of this crossing in 2009 during a test activation.

This crossing used to have standard cross-bucks, without red rectangular backgrounds, and incandescent lights in 2008. Thanks Level Crossing Fan for that info:

There is a crossing on the nearby Kippes lane, which is visible from the road but isn't accessible. This crossing is active, and services the nearby factories. This crossing has a Westinghouse hybrid bell, Westinghouse cross-arms and Westinghouse lights. I also believe there is another crossing on an unnamed road servicing the BlueScope Steel Factory. This crossing is also inaccessible

I used my 'expert' editing skills to make the Bayview road crossing look like it works, with flashing lights, bell sounds and all. The flashing light footage I took from video of the Hudsons Rd level crossing in Spotswood, and the bell sound effect I took from video of the School Rd level crossing in Menzies Creek (Gembrook side)

Very interesting video, certainly looks like those signals are receiving some basic level of maintenance. Industrial sidings certainly have some cool crossings, shame they are off limits. Great job with the editing!

Love how the Kippes Lane crossing has incandescent lights

Yeah, but it's weird - the closed crossing has LED's while the active crossing has incandescent lights... hmm, something's not right there lol

I don’t think that the kippes lane crossing is still used . There are some other crossings around the blue scope steel works that you can’t get public access to that have ebells and led lights

I like it when you do the light animation on abandoned crossings!

I edited it. The clip is just a screenshot of the crossing with footage of flashing lights superimposed over it. The sound effect is from a crossing on the Puffing Billy railway

@@stuarthunt101 The crossing (was) serving an oil refinery, which opened in the 1970s, so I doubt that the crossing has ever been seen Steam.

Hello, would you like to record some level crossings in the Upfield line, if you do, it will be great.

I HAVE some footage of the important crossings on the line, but there are a couple of other ones which I want to get as well, and I plan to upload some Frankston and Pakenham crossing videos first... but I'll get there eventually!
