That's kinda the point. They realized early on that half the band was wasted during their shows, which could've crippled their revenue if it spilled into the studio where album sales were starting to dwindle. I think replacing ZP and making Vadim sober up was a smart decision. While their studio work is still a bit dated, they sound INCREDIBLE live.

@jenz269 It's just being clever, really. Most songs from the ZP era, are really vocally challenging, even for a classical trained tenor. Add to that performing said songs for however many nights in a row. That will put a strain on anybody. Especially if party as hard as DF did in those days
If ZP didn't smoke and drink, his voice would probably be as epic as it is on the album. I can't imagine why a power metal vocalist would think it's a good idea to smoke considering what it does to the voice.

@V. S. Werejester he used triggers. Most metal drummers use triggers these days as it makes the double bass stand out more. I dont think it helps the drummer anyway. If anything you hear mistakes more clearly.

00-2010 was something else
Lots of ripping on D-Force here. Having followed them ever since Valley of the Damned, they surely don't sound like their studio recordings. But no metal band does these days. In the Ultra Beatdown tour, ZP was really sharp and I had more fun at that show than any of their other tours. And Herman and Sam kill the entire songs live. They aren't perfect, but if you've ever tried to play one of their songs, a single one would take out the wrist of most guitar players. The fact that they can do it continuously for nearly 2 hours is superhuman. Dragon force forever.
+grswindl Oh, and to boot, when I saw them in MN, Herman played the solo to this song while crowdsurfing. Get that through your skulls, all your guitar players. People grabbing on his arms and he can nail this floating along on a gropey wave.
+Northern Gardener But Dream Theather guys didn't drink as much as Dragonforce (And it is a fact, that some Asians get drunk faster and easier than Europeans or Americans)
In both versions of Through The Fire and Flames live, the drummer us the only one who didn't mess up once
This iteration of the band was fun.
I like how people are saying that the performance here was terrible. The thing is, this was during a time period where the old singer was at the end of his time with this band. Plus, because of how high his vocal range was and how much he abused during concerts, he eventually started struggling to hit certain notes within his range. And to try and counteract that, they tuned down the guitars to a lower scale, but that still didn't help. Other than that, it was a good performance.

This is definitely my favourite live performance of Through The Fire and Flames. I have to admit, I like ZP Theart way more than Marc Hudson. Both singers are awesome, but ZP is definitely better in my books. :)

Years ago i watched a live version of this song on youtube, Graspop Festival 2006. That was the best live performance ive ever seen of this song, and for years i havnt been able to find it anywhere, as if it got wiped from existence.
They exist in a japanese website and facebook as far as i know (if you cant find it its probably deleted)
I think Marc is arguably the better singer, but ZP's voice just fits this band so much better.

first performance of the song! I like how they had acoustic guitar stands in this concert.
I remember seeing them on this tour in late 2008 and they all drank straight up Heinekens and jager bottles attached to their mic stands lol even had a roadie hold drinks with a straw for their drummer to drink. ZP didn’t smoke though so his voice didn’t suffer as much. They played incredible that night though ngl I was beyond impressed

Power Metal is pretty much all I listen to. Bands like DragonForce, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Lost Horizon, HammerFall, Sabaton, Dragonland, Fairyland, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Freedom Call, Ascension, Power Quest and on the list goes.
