I really love what you were saying about positivity with money! I'm definitely more of a thrifter simply because I adore fashion but I'm not exactly in a position to spend loads of money on clothing and I much prefer to spend it on traveling. But I think it's so wonderful when someone has saved up for something that makes them really happy, nothing wrong with it! For some people it's trips, for some clothes, for others food! If you work hard, you should be able to reward yourself!
You are so right about the CPW theory. When I was still in high school, about 8 years ago, I wanted a black leather jacket, like a really good one. So I saved a lot of money for it and waited for winter sales to come. I ended up getting a black Harley Davidson leather jacket in half price, but it was still on the pricey side for me. It was 245€. But I was sure that I would wear it like crazy. After 8 years the CPW is 0.82€, and maybe less. It was one of the smartest buys of my life
Mspenny93 sooo good! You brought up a good point to. Winter sales are the best for buying coats at a cheaper price point without having to sacrifice quality. I love looking for deals!!
I really agree with this. In college I used to always feel guilty about spending more on clothing than my friends. When they asked about my new skirt I would say I got it at a discount or something so that they wouldn't judge me. However, at the end of the day everyone enjoys and spends on different things. They spend money cafe-hopping and going out to fancy places for dinner while I don't care for that and mostly just have dinner at home and eat the same thing at work every day.
I definitely agree with everything you said in this video and I can't wait to apply this in my life but I wanted to mention. less fortunate people naturally are a bit envious (as I once was) not because they can't buy these things but because they can barely put food on a table but see people spend $2000- on shoes. Its their money and people should spend *their hard earned money how they want* but I always believe that you should give back. Like if you spend thousands on a jacket, purse etc. why not do the same to help others? Even if its like $50. If all people just gave back a little, our world would be a better place.
LOVING all these style 101 videos...just gave my shoe collection a major upgrade this weekend after watching the shoe essentials video. keep them coming! couple ideas i'd love to see next: a fall wardrobe essentials video and do's and don'ts for petite girls. love your content!
I was just about to buy this UB Naked Heat palette on Sephora and you made me think about a LOT of things and alternatives I already have and in my makeup collection. I'm committing on spending my money more cautiously . Thanks Amy!
As a person who is doing finance as a career path I am so grateful for these advices, I've never heared of CPW rule which is quite interesting, especially that I am debating rather I should get a LV bag soon. It really made me rethink my decision. Thanks Amy, you put an amazing content here, very unique. Take care xx
You are so refreshing talking about money in a fashion video so head-on! I'm totally not in the league of buying expensive items (I practically live in Uniqlo so I was so pleased you said you like it too) but I personally never felt jealous of people who could. I guess it's cos status symbols are exactly meant to reflect what you can afford and I don't really feel great trying to look a lot wealthier than I really am. If I one day earn enough whereby expensive things don't break the bank for me - I wouldn't stop myself. That said, I totally think it's possible to look classy and put-together with high street and second hand items. Thanks for all the style videos, you're a class act
I believe in quality of certain expensive items too! I own one high end handbag: an LV Kimono. My next one that I plan on getting is one of The Row handbags in black! I sold all my cheaper handbags that I wasn't in love with! I am re-watching this video to get more ideas about splurging!
Having a mom that buys literally anything just because it was on sale and “omg so cheap!”, that video spoke to me! I love all your videos and I think it’s such a talent to be able to talk about beauty and fashion without triggering people to spend more and more money... and yaaasss about the positive attitude towards money!
This video came at a PERFECT time because i'm currently considering this cardigan from Urban Outfitters that's such a splurge for me, so thank you for the tips! 💛
I really like your videos soo much.. Like they make much more sense to me then anything I have come across so far.. The content is so genuine and realistic.. Definitely loving your tips..
these are great saying! That cost of wear mind-blowned me and it really will be something that i use before buying anything, thanks for sharing your knowledge hon :)
I love all the ideas in this video! I agree with everything you said! I do agree fashion is important to reflect your personality and to make good first impressions! Quality is key! I agree too when you mentioned heels; I only buy chunky heels now because I hurt my knee years ago. So I don't shop for stilettos even if that is what everyone says to wear. Love your tee and lipstick shade too, btw!
Amazing! I loooove your videos, you have helped me so so much. Pleeease keep doing them I can't wait for the bags essentials one ❤️ love from Venezuela
This was such a great video. I really love the videos were you talking about general styling and also the ones where you talk about your philosophy of fashion and style. You have some very valuable tips that apply to any age and any socioeconomic bracket, etc. I hope you'll do a lot of videos of this type. I love your personality too. xo, Sue
I'm so happy I found out your channel, it's like a reminder of what I already have opinions on. Also, I love your honesty, keeps me on track from getting seduced by trends and stick to reality. You rock, girl! ✌💘
Omg!!! I thought I was the only one who thought of my costs per wear. Whenever making a purchase I think " well ok if I wore this 10 times it would be 8 dollars per wear". Love your channel
Amy, you have truly inspired me to wear whatever I feel like wearing. For so long i've always tried to have one specific look that everyone else was wearing. You made me feel good enough to wear my white converse, my funky flare jeans, and a band tee out and I started a trend at school wearing flare jeans and white converse. Love ya!! xoxo
Great video, I liked how you were talking about positivity with money , and I really loved the idea of cpw. Can yours send make a video on how to grow your hair fast?😻😽
Leah Chambers hair cuts and hair masks. It's true what they say the more often you trim it the faster it grows. I would say get a trim every 2-3 months 💕
I find it difficult to assess how timeless or relevant an item will still be a few years from now. I'm changing my wardrobe to be more capsule-esque, but buying new things is tricky for me. What a classic basic is does change, and so might my body and taste. Idk maybe just attachment issues though :P
I wear my topshop jean once a week which last about 2 years..cost .72 cent per wear. That’s still hella expensive. Am I cheap. My mom clothes last 20 years.
Very true. While thats not always the "rule" its def. an indicator that most can easily identify if you may not know how a garment is constructed or what the makes a quality item. I always have fast fashion in my head when I'm thinking of less expensive and they tend to cut corners. (materials, seams, buttons etc) I'll have a full video about quality because I'd love to elaborate a bit more XO
I study eonomics and we all know theres a limit to how much quality can a purse or any type of accesory be so from a certain amount of money it doesnt matter the quality is the same..

Thalia Mercedes 🙌🏽✨✨
Thank you so much for this Amy. You're the best!!! I usually leave these videos feeling drained, but with you, it's the total opposite. Love you
CPW = words to live by. This is always my shopping philosophy. Such great advice packed in one video!
Love the cost per wear mentality! It makes so much sense :) Great tips as usual
I love how you radiate so much positivity in every video. Been watching since. All the love from the Philippines!! 😍

I wear my topshop jean once a week which last about 2 years..cost .72 cent per wear. That’s still hella expensive. Am I cheap. My mom clothes last 20 years.
Amy I love your work I'm Nigerian, talk abt style for black girls
you just gave me an epiphany on how i spend money on trying to find a duper for my makeup... thanks you saved me time and money!
Why does quality relate to cost? I don't know if it's always the rule.

How will you know if something will make it 3-5 yrs?
Take a look at how fast a trendy item blows up ... its a way to tell how fast they will go away.
Amy Serrano
So if it blows up it wont last? Is that correct?
J L The point is that you will stop wearing it because it’s so out of style
I would literally kill for your brows. So iconic, so full! luv yaa
I study eonomics and we all know theres a limit to how much quality can a purse or any type of accesory be so from a certain amount of money it doesnt matter the quality is the same..
Ayelet Yam so what would be the approximate amount that it doesnt matter? I'm curious just really want to know
owwwwssmmm
