      Not all of them! By the 3rd row she was doing a back or front hdc, not going thru back loop only for the ribbing. Then the way she finishes the end of a row before turning lost me. Never saw that before.
      I would like to have seen a finished product before jumping in blind... IMHO

    Notes: 3.5 mm hook, 3-weight yarn shown. 11 chains made. Seems to be about 3 inches per 10 stitches in the first working swatch. Needs even count of stitches +1. Half DC into second chain from hook.
    Average baby blanket size is 30 inches by 40 inches (76 centimeters by 107 centimeters), make a gauge/sample swatch to determine how many chains you need to make the right size.
    Row 1: HDC into each stitch, chain 1, turn
    Row 2: HDC above front post of HDC in row 1, in between the two stitches, ending your row with 1 HDC into the top of the remaining final stitch. Chain 1. Turn and repeat row 2 until you reach the length desired.

    I have been doing this stitch for years with a double crochet. If I really want to get wild, I do front then back on next row. Creates a very stretchy afghan that looks like knitted rows. Or on the brim of a hat to give it a snug but stretch to fit feel. This is a twist on a traditional front or back post, but I like how much flatter and more stretchy it is.

      @@patford1491 they might not know how to read the abbreviations of the stitches. That’s the first thing I learn before crocheting learning to read the abbreviation hdc half double crochet , sc , single crochet. It’s a use of one row of single and the rest are half double. It’s confusing at first but i got the hang of it.

    • @denisegeorge9430
      @denisegeorge9430 Год назад +1

      She did a sample for you to measure per, make a sample, then see how many stitches per in and calculate the size you need, for instance @ 4 stitches per inch a blanket 40 inches wide would need 160 chains . Then crochet the length you need allowing one skein for 8-10 rows. Use your sample to calculate yardage or ounces used for sample and adjust up one skein if unsure. Usually 4-6 skeins

    I love the ribbed effect, but explaining along the way would be beneficial. I think you did some kind of front or back post hdc but when you got to the end and turned it sideways to pick up a stitch from a previous row, you lost me. I've never seen that technique and a bit of an explanatiin would have been helpful.

      The stitch she is using is called a front post half double (fphdc) stich in US terms. If you google it you may be able to find a written pattern for the stitch. She started with an even number of chains plus one.
      Row 1 - She did a half double crochet (hdc) stitch in the 2nd chain from hook and continued with hdc in every chain space to the end. Chain 1 and turn.
      Row 2 - She did a fphdc stich all the way across and then ended with a hdc in the last stitch. Then she continued to repeat row 2.
