Pixo will get you better spec for similar money. Top spec SZ4 Altos with fog lights and painted door handles are pretty rare. It's the same car with a different bumper so I don't there is any 0‐60 difference. The common problem with these is the air bag warning light caused by faulty wiring loom in the steering column. Why it was never a recal I dunno, their more expensive models had the same problem and were recalled.

The Mini Hatch has a fair few more problems with the Peugeot-sourced engines. I used to work for Peugeot and these Prince engines were not uncommon for dephaser problems, misfires, stretching timing chains, and worst, burning about 200ml of engine oil every 1000 miles. This was caused by the shallow piston heads vibrating inside the cylinders and wearing down the cylinder walls, allowing oil to pass. For whatever reason the Mini seems less common, but the issues are certainly still there. Can't argue with the fuel economy though! The water leak issue mentioned with the 107 is almost always the rubber seal on the rear high-level brake light, allowing water into the boot, which then runs forwards into the footwells, a very easy fix.

Learn to drive economically first. Got 76mpg from my previous tank in my 2012 1L petrol Aygo. 95,000 miles on the clock but it's been well looked after since I've owned it from when it had 10,000 miles on the clock. My mechanic lent me his 1.2L Micra during my MOT... Reset the MPG meter that said 25mpg and when I returned it it said 65mpg. Was quite impressed as the engine felt allot more powerful then my Aygo.

@@ExecutionerHopkins I usually accelerate at 75% engine load around 2,000-2,500 rpm and use engine braking for a reasonably slow coast down in gear when I need to slow for speed limit changes or junctions. Also when on flat ground I shift up to the highest gear possible, at 30mph in 5th around 1,200rpm it floats around 85-105mpg. The Argos got VVT-i so it's reasonable smooth and efficient over a wide rev range.

The 2nd cheapest car i ever owned was an Elise 111R. Bought it at 3 years old. It got written off 10 years later. I got all of my initial outlay back minus £2000. So that worked out at £200 per year to own a Lotus (ignoring insurance costs which weren't too bad).
Cheapest car so far is an old smart forfour Brabus I bought last year. The insurance wrote it off due to a slightly broken rear bumper. The net cost of buying the car is zero ££. Fuel costs are quite low, as with the Elise, because it is a lightweight car.

Cheapest car I bought was a 1998 Fiat Punto S 60 which cost me £1500 in 2005. The best thing I can say about it is that it was green. Had some good times with it though, until I crashed it.
I test drove some "cheap" replacements for the porker recently. The S4 and 540i drove like boats, not fun. The i30n and 308 GTi were both a lot of fun though, with the 308 probably edging it since that engine is a beast and it sounds much nicer inside (worse outside but I won't be outside so who cares). I'm 50/50 on swapping this year, even though fuel is more expensive than beer in some places...
You mentioned Citigo part sharing- I've said it before but that includes sharing a headlight switch with the entire Porsche range of that era, including mine and the 918 😄

I feel like there’s a lot of animosity towards your old Punto! Green makes it clear of many other first cars if you ask me 👀 I’d keep the Porsche just for the values - I feel like if any brand can hold its value it’s Porsche! Lol I really need to do a second video on cars sharing parts - that’s so ridiculous 😅

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry 2 года назад

@@CarsWithJB That Punto was a car I loved, until it broke 4 times in a year- then I drove other cars and realised how much better they were to drive too!
I drove a 308 GTi yesterday. Tempted...it's not as good as the porker but costs half what I'd be selling for while still being more fun than the Civic. i30N was close, but not worth £6k more. I'm probably going to switch in the next 6 weeks so if you want a go in the Porsche now's the time! 😄

Had my Honda Civic 2.2ctdi for a year now and it manages to do 49mpg so happy with it as a second car defo an underrated car for fuel economy and also can find them pretty cheap!

Yep, not to mention 138bhp also. Highly reputable make, futuristic edgy looks, low road tax, cheap to buy, cheap to fix, cheap to insure, fantastic fuel economy considering the power, fast, back seats that fold completely flat so perfect for moving stuff and camping/sleeping in even lol if you need to.

I wouldn’t say they’re exactly cheap to fix. Had my type s gt for 3 years and recently had a new clutch and flywheel at a cost of £900. If you can ensure that’s done before purchase then you’d be dodging a bullet. Excellent car overall though.

£110 for a 1975 Escort mark2 Ghia with Weber carbs, broken rear leaf springs and rust all over, bought in 1988 when I turned 18. Probably worth 19 million quid in today's market!😂

Bit worried about the level of research on these videos, for example
"Skoda Citigo road tax £165 a year ?
Skoda Citigo car road tax prices - cheapest to most expensive (changed after 2017 agreed)
Engine or Model range Tax Band Cost per Year
    1.0 MPI 60PS Stop-Start Band A £0.00 /year
    1.0 MPI 75PS Stop-Start Band A £0.00 /year
    1.0 MPI 60PS Band B £20 /year
    1.0 MPI 75PS ASG Band B £20 /year
    1.0 MPI 60PS ASG Band B £20 /year
Also our Hyundai 1,2 I10 mpg ? £20 road tax agreed but 50 mpg on steady run, can only be bettered to 54 if ? you drive @ 40-50 mph. 1.0 same mpg. Used these in Spain for years 60mpg +, no way,

The fiat GP is a fun car especially the 1.4 t jet which goes well enough and they are easy to work on with parts being very cheap. The mini is shit though! The Skoda city go thing costs the same to tax as my XC60! Lol

Mate, you put in some feministic cars right here. Like there are so many better cars that have very low fuel consumption. Like the audi a4 3.0 v6 tdi with 233hp and does 245kmh. Or a Volvo xc70 awd with 2.4D. There are so many better cars with low fuel consumption. Put in next time some sports cars or something.
