thank you for this video!!! i've been selling clothes, but worried about jeans bc i wasn't sure how to measure them, and scared of doing it incorrectly. your video was very quick, informative, and easy to follow. thanks so much, it really made my day.
Prof loved the video. I measure my jeans currently on a bed but I like the way that your jeans lay completely flat on the nice flat board. It takes me longer on a bed because of having to get the jeans to lay completely flat. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
Hello! I have a request return on eBay about some jeans. I have shown pictures of the tags that say 34x32 and I measured the waist and I clearly stated that it’s a 38x32. In my description I also stated that it’s not a 34 size jeans. Do you think eBay will accept his return even though I stated the real size?
Next to the environmental reason, these measurments make buying jeans second hand so much easier than new. You never need to deal with fake sizing of fashion brands again.
I think you add inches because I just bought a pair from another seller and he did this too. He said it was a 32 waiste, but it was a 29, or smaller. It maesered 16' across. I know because I have a closet full of 30, and 31 waist pants that fit me. I wanted the 32' waist to fit loose, but it was way to small, defanatly not a 32.
The most stressful part of selling jeans for me is doing the waist measurement. The slightest change in the way you move the jeans while measuring means the size can jump 1 size or lower 1 size. It's frustrating getting returns from people saying i didn't measure it properly. For instance, in the video, if you leveled out the back and front waist before measuring i bet you could boost it 1-2 sizes higher. Also, you can have two jeans of the same waist measurement but they will both feel completely different when you try them on. For instance, a slim W34 fits me fine. But a straight relaxed pair of W34 feels like im wearing jeans 2-3 sizes too big! So now when i sell a relaxed straight pair of jeans, i tend to list it one size higher than what i've measured it for to compensate. Separate to this topic sorry but Prof, do you have any advice on how i can sell womens jeans? I've stopped selling them individually because the return rate was just way too high. It's a shame because i have so many good designer brand womens jeans that i wanna sell but i'm literally too scared to do it because my ebay rating will just plummet. Should i sell them in bulk? Or maybe just sell them without even mentioning the measurements?... Any advice will be great. Thanks for your channel! I've learnt so much from it.
Oh just every couple days i was getting complaints. "This is too small/too big". I think from the 80 or so womens jeans i sold i got about 6 or so returns plus a few extra complaints. Plus they asked a lot of questions, the profit wasnt good and the sales were slower. It got so bad i had to end the listing of over 150 womens jeans i had. With the mens jeans i rarely if ever get returns or complaints. It's disappointing because i have so many good jeans. I can sell them individually for $25-$40. Now i dont know what to do with it all.
Gus Tamer when you measure the waist I suggest stretching it out more like giving it a tug because this is the way they are going to fit . Not to criticize Prof but he just layed them down to measure the waist without giving them a quick tug. Like you said if you just lay them down and don't 'tug' the waist you'll get different measurements. It's also important to note in either your seller notes and / or description about tag size vs measured size because when you do and if you get a return buyer pays shipping. I'm a jean seller. 90% of my business is jeans. My return rate is 2% because of 'doesn't fit'. From my experience the majority of jean buyers are somewhat savvy meaning they know their measurements and fits. For instance I would say most buyers know the difference between Levi's 501 and 550 and same size would fit differently. As long as you disclose proper measurements and condition you shouldn't get that much returns. Jeans are the easiest clothing item to list in my opinion. Plus you can get away with the condition of the jeans compared to other clothing items as long as you disclose 'normal wear related to jeans around the waist' as an example and the pics you take will show it. Pre owned jeans can't be perfect condition and most NWT jeans aren't perfect either because of factory fading etc.
I'm new about this and kinda confused about how to double the number? As you said? Can you explain the math behind this im sorry i think i'm a discalcula person😅
Many of my jeans measure smaller or larger than the tag states. In the title I usually put 34x36 (Act. 33x35) And in the listing details I will show all the Actual measurements. When you fill out the item specifics , brand, wash, size, inseam... do you put the 34 for the "size" and 36 for the "inseam"? Or do you put the actual measured size in there? I do the tag size. Thanks :)
Dezigngal I was trying to figure out the same thing. The only jeans I've seen so far that the measurements I took is exactly the same as the tags is Duluth Trading co
I measured my jeans which says they are a 36 waist on the tag and got a 20 measurement!! So if I’m correct in the way you explained it then that means they are actually a 40 inch waist 😳
Fier The Great There could be a lot of reasons for that. It could be an error in the production process or a mistagging. It could also be the way that particular manufacturer sizes their jeans. Its tricky to know sometimes but the tape doesnt lie. If you got a 20 inch measurement then chances are that pair fits a 40 inch waist. Thanks for watching
@@ProfSales that’s the weird part because all my 36 jeans from that brand are 19-20 waist. But non the less thankx because I only stuck with that brand because it fits how I like and I don’t have to play the guessing game!
I keep doing it this way and I keep getting customers returning the jeans! I have no idea what I am doing wrong. It has happened 3 times now. Any thoughts?
If your measurements are different than the tag. are you still putting those tag measurements anywhere in the listing or are you just going to show it in a picture??
The waist is the trickiest of all measurements and causes the most returns. Measuring the waist using the "dip" method, like you do, is very inaccurate. You can have 2 identical sized jeans but if one dips down a little more than the other the actual measurement will be different, which makes no sense at all. Aligning the front and back together is much more accurate. Lastly, on a low-rise jean, the actual waist measurement will usually be about 3" more than the "tag size"
EBay’s size guides discuss measuring the waist as I have demonstrated in the video. So do most of the jeans manufacturers’ websites. The dip must be taken into account by the buyer so I use the standard method as shown here. Thanks for watching
i'm super lost i have measured my waist at 46 inches and length at 27 inches using a very accurate measuring tape please help me i don't want to screw up when i buy my new jeans
Are you talking about for yourself? The easiest way to figure out what you wear is just try things on. Measurements are good but no substitute for trying them on. Then you can take what size works for you as a starting point for other brands of jeans
thanks! i'm selling on depop and had someone ask the measurements of a piece. this video was short and sweet!
Glad you liked it!!
LMFAO same right now
Your way of measurement is really clear and simple, thank you so much.

01:40 These jeans label is size 29, the waist he measured is 14x2
Label sizes are not always correct and ebays criteria is to put the actual measurement not nec what the label says. Thanks for wathcing

Measure across the back of the waist and then double it to get the full waist size.
@@ProfSales thanks!
Did you measure the Hip measurement with the line on the side? Of the pants? If that makes sense…
K Fairy Straight across the hip area and double the measurement basically at the bottom of the zipper
hi im supposed to measure the rise and flat of shorts and im a little confused on how to do it.
Yeah you're supposed to do that just like if they were normal pants
562 danielle what shy said. same way as with pants
Can this be applied also on shorts?
Jace 2193 yes
Great video. Thanks so much.

The first number is the waist. The second number is the length of the inseam

What would you say the inseam is if it measured 27.5? 27 or 28?
28 Thanks
Okay so I am selling a pair of jeans. My measurements differ from the ones another website has online. Not sure which one to trust..
Vivienne V I always put what I measured in my listing
what about the term "bottom size"? Ive never heard of that before, how do you measure it? thx
Do you mean the cuff?
no idea, hoped you would know

inseam is curved and measured in that shape.
Thanks for the comment Farrokh Sh
Never had a curved inseam on any pants. The back rise is curved, but he forgot to measure that. That is where the bum coverage is visible.
