    Even when I was a kid, I noticed this was the one metal band who…seemed to be having a good time on stage. Also, only Maiden can wear their own shirts.

    Iron Maiden concerts are workouts for the fans as much as a workout for the band. Being "shot" by Steve's bass is an honour.
    I saw them a couple of times in the 80's in 18,000 seat venues. Then I saw them in he mid 90's with Blaze Bayley on vocals in a 1000-1500 capacity venue. Maiden came out an assaulted the stage with the same energy that they give when playing to 80,000 people. Janic Gers, the guitarist who typically is on the right side of the stage as viewed from the crowd, was running around, jumping off speaker racks while playing guitar. They do this because they LOVE it. The fact that they can make money doing it is just a happy bonus. They have never changed their sound to "become more popular", or get radio airplay.
    *Up The Irons!*

      @kalidesu he really is. I don't think he fit well into what Maiden was doing, but I still enjoy those albums along with the rest of them.
      Maybe it wasn't that he didn't fit in, as much as he didn't fit the fans expectations.

    The thing about Adrian and Janick both playing the same solo, when Adrian left the band in 89, Janick took his place and obviously played his parts, when Adrian returned in 99 they decided who would take up the solos (Adrian likes Janick’s version of his Hallowed Be Thy Name solo, so Janick plays that), sometimes even take turns from one night to another (eg Revelations), but The Trooper is the only one I’ve seen where they both play the solo together, just in their respective styles and phrasings.

    • @marcgrote7540
      @marcgrote7540 4 месяца назад +3

      I think that the reason they both play the solo is because Adrian doubled the solo on the studio recording, so it sounds more like it should when they do it that way live.

    The Trooper starts at a run, stays at a gallop, and finished with a dead stop. It is lyrically, musically, and thematically complete, and for my money not just one of the best Maiden tracks, but one of the best Metal tracks of all time. Up The Irons \m/

    Live show recordings are just the sickest things sometimes. I probably attend about 10-15 shows a year in addition to the 20-30 ones at festivals, and the best really do excel at shrinking the venue down like you - or Bruce - put it, 'cus even if you are at the front it's just a different beast when you feel that everybody shares the same love and energy.

    I like Maiden...(not a fan of Metallica)...have done for many years....but my musical heart is now in Japan...especially with one band in particular..the all female rock band "BAND-MAID"..So much so, I have flown out to Japan (from the UK) twice to see them LIVE...They have been the light in my darkness since losing my partner to cancer in 2017...Oh!..BTW..four of the 5 members can play piano to some extent. Lead guitarist, Kanami is a classically trained pianist...Bass player MISA can also play horn and trumpet..and Akane the drummer can also play the trombone...Miku the band founder (rhythm guitarist, lyricist, second vocals)..couldn't play any instrument when she started the band....but was taught to play guitar by Kanami (lead guitar) on the job!.

    It's such a joy me to hear bands that don't play to a click track...I mean there's a time and place for that (animals as leaders, super tech stuff) but the rawness is so great...you get to let the music breathe...like when they play the signature part Nico knows to slow down just a little bit.. I love that stuff..it lends stuff like this even more power

    The Charge of the Light Brigade, is basically a victorious failure, it was considered a suicide mission but they went for it anyway, the speedy charge of the horses had an advantage of surprise, the Russians never expected the attack, their lines of cannons were setup for firing cannon ball, but the charge got to them too quickly, so they were changing to canister (basically a bucket of anything small to hand to turn the cannon into a f**k-off shotgun), but by the time they were ready, the horses were already jumping their lines and continuing onward... I think they did their through 3 lines of defence and made it to their objective. They fought ferociously, but in the smoke of the battle, it was never seen by their support who had stayed put until they were cut to pieces... Thats a very loose surmise of it, and probably be picked to pieces by those who know the events far better than I, but it was a victory by those that participated, just a shame no-one believed they'd do it to follow up with the desperately needed support... UP THE IRONS!!!

    This song is about the charge of the light brigade from the Crimean War. That intro Bruce did at the beginning is a actually a quote from a poem by Tennyssen called 'the charge of the light brigade'. Those whole incident is considered one of the worse tacitcal blunders in British history. The light brigade where order to charge with swords into a valley that had artillery cannons (which were still a relatively new invention at the time) on the high ground on either side...it was a massacre. The conspiracy is that the officers wanted to test how good the Russian defense where with their new cannons and so ordered the charge knowing most if not all of them would die. Other put it down to straight up incompetence

    The thing about reacting to Maiden live videos is that you have to be careful. Sometimes the band will play something at double time as a joke, which is cool if you know what's going on. But if this is your first time hearing it, it takes something away as they miss marks, Bruce runs out of breath, etc. This speeding up is going to be found on most every live version of the trooper specifically. They play it at almost every show and they are always trying to get through it as soon as possible. They are at almost triple speed in this recording.

Almost equal in quality with some differences especially in terms of energy, solos, pace, vocals a lot of times differ from the studio, it’s just different, but i often prefer studio in general because it’s what the band really intended and wanted first and the most 100%, especially it’s real playing, real songwriting, real performing in studio in the first place, which is rare!

    It could be my phone speaker, but it sounded like either Niko was dragging the beat or the three guitarists were rushing the song, especially at the beginning of the song.

    I've always liked Maiden's live performances. Rock in Rio is great but, I think Live After Death is better for classic tunes like The Trooper.
