That Shure MV7 has such a beautiful warm sound to vocal and instruments and that's just through the USB interface not through the XLR. I've done both and I'm thoroughly impressed with the microphone and price.
I just found a Rode NT-USB on the Facebook marketplace lightly used. He wanted $80 and I talked him down to $65. I'm just getting interested/started with VO. So, I think it's a good place to start.
I use both Type of Mics condenser and dynamic I recently got the MV7 the way you comparing them isn’t a far comparison the distance isn’t the same you giving the MV7 a clear advantage
It would have been nice, if the part with the motorcycle was recorded with both mics at the same time. What I have found is, that the Shure MV7 picks up far less room reverb. That's a big plus for me, and I'm seriously considering swapping my Rode NT USB for the MV7.
Thanks for the comparison. One thing that I think you missed mentioning is that the Sure MV7 has a USB micro connector on the microphone and not USB-C. That’s a showstopper for me. Trying to get my kit down to less cables. It’s USB-C all the way for me from now on.
Excellent review. The Ride is brighter. I am not thrilled with the Shure "house sound", in any mic to be honest. It's darker (nice) but has some "density" that my ears don't like.
I tried a lot of microphones, in the power of the microphone Shure MV7 and its beautiful voice, I did not find this microphone used in many international stations and it is very professional
Shure on the Near setting definitely sounded better overall. The Far setting has a noticeable decrease in quality but still not bad. If it is affordable, it’s definitely a great choice for many people.
Thanks for your video. Thanks to your insights from a practical perspective I really understood the difference between the Rode NT USB and the Shure MV7
I wonder how the USB+ would compare to it since now it supports 24-bit depth and the old Rode only had up to 16 Bit. I've heard the difference and it's noticeable between the USB and USB+ for sure but against a MV7, I wonder.
Thank you for the video, very helpful for me. I am trying to decide between these two, which one to buy. The Shure MV7 has more clarity, depth and the sound is richer and i can hear more detail. But the Rode is close and also vfm. I ll have to decide if it is worth the extra 100$.
Great video! Which of the 2 will mitigate echo better? Most my zoom calls get a lot of echo. Now doing podcasts/radio appearances I want to get the best of the 2. Do them on an small office and sometimes i can hear the voice from person next door. Thanks in advance.
I like the sound of condenser microphones way more than that of dynamic ones, so the Rode is my clear winner of this comparison (especially after hearing the guitar section). Interesting, how different the perception can be.
I think it does not make sense to compare one dynamic microphone with one condenser microphone. These are two different types of microfons build for different use cases and scenarios.
a better comparison would be to talk close to the rode as you were with the shure, or have both on a boom. The rode would have been overall a closer comparison. the shure does sound great though
Great explanation and comparison. Thank you. I am in the decision process as I own a Rode NT but whenever I hear people speaking with a Shure mic I instantly hear the improvement. One thing that I have in the background occasionally is one of our dogs barking if there's anyone in the street outside. Question: What boom arm do you use? I like how easy it seemed for you to move it out of the way. Thanks again for this video.
Great! You have done a great job und it was very helpful for me! I am a musician and my joice is cleare now (shure). Thank you and greetings from berlin
Why was the shure mic tested super close and mic pointed to your mouth and guitar when the rode was tested way further out and pointed at the ceiling to exaggerates the echo In the room. Didn’t seem like a fair comparison to me.
@@CJRichvideo Oof, expensive but nice. Hope to find it used lol. Was considering the Rode PSA1 but apparently it has issues rising upward on its own with mice that are too light for it.
@@vgman94 As I recently switched from some generic 20$ arm to the PSA1 and now the Blue Compass: Up until a few days ago, I used the Auna Mic 900b (switched to the MV7) which weighs about 350g. The PSA1 did not have any problems with the mics little weight, I was worried about that before my purchase but was pleasantly surprised. Although I replaced the PSA1 with the Blue Compass just because it fits my needs better, I highly recommend the PSA1 too.
@@vgman94 Well, the difference isnt as big as i made i seem haha. The basic difference is apparent when looking at either arm - they are just built diffenrently. Especially two things mattered to me: 1. The look. I just prefer and want the sleeker design of the Blue for my setup. It kinda looks like one big, even arm on a round base - so more like my monitor arms than a mic arm. The PSA1 just looks more like a traditional mic arm obviously, although there are no springs visible. Also, the Compass has an integrated cable channel which the Rode doesnt and as I dont have a single visible cable in my setup, I also wanted this to be true for the mic arm. 2. The base. Im speaking about the very base thats mounted to the table and in which the arm in either cases is inserted. Again, the Compass wins the design for me as its an even cylinder and not a "volcano-looking" base. Also, the base of the Blue is taller, which doesnt matter all the time but sometimes. If i have something laying besides, it usually doesnt matter as the first joint of the arm is far enough above the object laying besides it so it doesnt interfere with the arms movement. As you can see, it really does fit MY personal needs just that tiny bit better. Besides all of that I think both arms have similar reach, tho the PSA1 can lift quite a bit heavier mics.
Do you have to talk into the tip of the MV7 or can you talk through the side? (It seems like the Rodes windscreen you can flip it horizontally and talk through the side) can you do that with the MV7? This will be my first mic
u hv to speak into mv7 by 1/2 feet distance. beyond that u need to speak loud. in case u typing on keyboard n kept the mic to left or right. then rode is the way to go. if you have a boom arm n u can keep mic in front of u then get shure for a more warmer voice. btw u can get same sound quality from rode n shure but for rode u hv to edit the audio n remove noise
nice mic, but the white lettering that says "shure" ruins it for me. They basically get free promotion on every video/stream/podcast. I would slap my content creator sticker right over that.
That Shure MV7 has such a beautiful warm sound to vocal and instruments and that's just through the USB interface not through the XLR. I've done both and I'm thoroughly impressed with the microphone and price.

Hey! That's Gregory Alan Isakov! - you played that beautifully - hats off to you my good man
I was confused between the two and you made me realize that the mv7 would be a better fit for my acoustic environment. Thanks

I picked up the mv7 for 175 last week, it's arriving Tommorow, I'm so excited 😁

I realized that too, Rode NT needs a more treated environment, as it picks up a lot of echo.
Thanks for the comparison, really helped make my decision, many thanks from Sydney Australia!
Wow, I wasn't expecting such a huge difference and I was about ready to buy the Rode. Thanks for this thorough comparison.
Bro you blessed me great review this is exactly what I needed definitely buying the shure mv7. Thank you 🙏
Why did you put the Rode so far? You can also talk closer into that mic to try to eliminate background sound
It will only work so much… almost negligible in terms of what sound it cuts out. The clarity would be there, but other issues would remain noticeable.
Haha loved the intro. The comparison was great, and I do think the Shure sounds, looks, and functions better. Enjoy the upgrade, CJ!
Thank you.

Appreciate this, went with the MV7 based on the comparison.
Great authentic, informal video! Short, real, thank you!
That is the best intro I have seen in a while.
Lol thanks
Thx for explaining the thing about kondenser and dynamic mics. That alone is good to know
Thanks for your video. Thanks to your insights from a practical perspective I really understood the difference between the Rode NT USB and the Shure MV7
Very practical, down-to-earth, day-to-day non-audiophile review. Thank you!

Thank you, this was helpful, something to note is that Rode NT & Mini come with a software Rode Connect
I think it does not make sense to compare one dynamic microphone with one condenser microphone. These are two different types of microfons build for different use cases and scenarios.
I think it sounds awesome! Thank you for making the video! I was going to buy Rode, but after hearing the sound difference, no way!
Great great great, this is what I was looking for, enough details and a practical review, Thank you
What is the boom arm? Looks very cool indeed!
That opening earned you an immediate like. 😂😂😂
Lol glad someone else liked it.

Great review!! Hey was wondering what Mic arm so you using? :)
Thank you for the nice overview! But what happend to your SM7B?
I haven’t had the sm7b in years. Sold in years ago.
Great explanation and comparison. Thank you.

Thanks again for this video.
Thanks! Does the Motiv iOS software have a virtual channel to mix computer system sound or audio from another app?
Will the Shure MV7 work better with an additional pop filter like the Rode NT-USB? Or does it already have an in built pop filter?
I liked and subscribed just because of the intro.
Lol thanks. I appreciate it.
The Rode was so much farther away (and not on a boom) during the test. Not really a direct comparison.
Great review CJ. Were you using the USB or XLR connector for the MV7 here?
Thanks
Need to decide between the Shure MV7 and the Rode NTG for streaming and podcasting. Thoughts?
i got a rode Nt usb mic. u need to add filter to it to remove noise like fan/ Cpu fan/ Ac fan.
do you need the shure faced like that, or can u have it more upwards and talk with ?
Great! You have done a great job und it was very helpful for me! I am a musician and my joice is cleare now (shure). Thank you and greetings from berlin
8:40 is that ... The Stable Song? Kudos if it is. Nice sound with the MV7!
Really love my rode, but I think I will upgrade to the Shure.
What mic i can have far away from me so people don't see it when I record myself in video?
Very helpful! Thanks!
Excellent information!! Thank you for creating the video. (Question : Which camera are you using? Looks great!)
Thank you. This is recorded with a Nikon Z6II and Nikon 14-30 lens.
@@CJRichvideo Most excellent!!!
Also, we secured two of the MV7 for our various projects. Again, thank you for the wonderful review!
Congrats and you’re welcome.
Is the micro usb connector (or your cable) at an angle? It doesn't seem to come straight out of the back of the mic.
Where did you get the stand please?
How do you get the mv7 to sound this loud via usb? are you boosting in post? I cant seem to get my usb volume loud enough.
Thanks for the review
Thank you. Very helpful.
Helpful video, thank you.
Great video and content!
is it me or does the micro usb cable connected to the mv7 look like it's abile to snap off ? looks like it's not even connected
So you don't have to install the software if you are running this via USB on a Windows 10 machine?
Correct you don’t have to
Why was the shure mic tested super close and mic pointed to your mouth and guitar when the rode was tested way further out and pointed at the ceiling to exaggerates the echo In the room. Didn’t seem like a fair comparison to me.
dynamic vs condenser...condenser is way more sensitive
9:40 I bought the SHURE. Dude anything is better than this random echoing I get from my Yeti Blue (in Red)
How do you precess your voiceover it is clear which I struggle to get from my Shure mv7

What brand is the boom arm? How expensive was it?
Yes I think so. It’s a blue compass $99

I've Had This Camera
You have to adjust the same distance to be fair.
The shure mv7 is completely different from the shure sm7b
Nobody gonna talk about metalic echo?
6:23 - "I've had this camera for over a year..." huh? :D :D
