Very useful information, thanks for posting this! There needs to be more info on sizing for people who are new to this. My carrier is considered a medium at 10x12
I hear ya. I really wish the info was out there when I was coming up in this world. I probably wouldn't have wasted so much time and funds experimenting. If the carrier fits your body then 10x12 is probably ideal, just make sure there is enough room for the plate thickness of your choice.
New sub here great video , thank you so much for the info! I’m a small frame guy (5’6/135 , it’s so hard to find my size plate and soo hard to find a small plate carrier . I’m a newbie any advice I muchly appreciate in advance
You can try SAPI small but it depends on if you prefer shooter cut style. See if the 10x12 fits you or how much excess you have to deal with. If you can run it then there are more options in the 10x12 size. Your carrier should be based on your plate size, so check the product description to ensure it'll fit your plate. I have Velocity Systems Scarab and Defense Mechanisms MEPC videos if you want those as reference.
9x9 lvl 3+ plates perfect for everything I know everyone says 10x12 but nope lol 9x9 with 3 double mag pouches my war belt with 2 more double mag pouches 2 pistol pouches and an ifak Total weight fully loaded less than 22lbs
Thanks for the info. I think another issue is the movement of the plates while running if the plates chosen are too small creating gaps in the plate carrier. I got a Medium size Ferro Concepts slickster so gonna give the small size a shot. I don't have a big chest at all.
That is another thing to consider. Some folks add backers to help fill the gap but if there is a properly sized carrier for your plate size then that's the better way to go for sure.
Wow, I have a half dozen sets of armor and came here wondering if I should sell off the 8x10s. Have been completely enlightened---all the time the answer was in the glorious nipples.
I touched on them, but you bewbie bearers likely have to use a variety of techniques and see what works for you. Every bewbie bearer has found different things that has worked for them depending on their body type and, well, shape. Sports bra and multicurve plates seem to be the common, however. I have a question and could use some help. Just bought two hesco 4401 plates. I noticed they don't have the emblem that I see on base plates but they do have a hesco tag that appears to be glued inside.
Yea, although it's not ideal, and if they've made that conscious decision for themselves then it's on them. There's also a lot of folks oversizing themselves because they're bigger dudes but that doesn't necessarily mean their plates should be bigger.
@@bunnyoperator I'm 6'5 and 260lbs so I definitely kind of need 11x14 plates and even I've considered downsizing to large. 11x14 literally just covers the minimum on me and doesnt even go from my clav notch to belly button
@@Jewifer333x2 That's a personal choice that you'll have to make to balance protection vs mobility. I don't think anyone can fault you for making the conscious and educated decision because well... it's your decision. Just ensure that your PC adequately supports the plate size with minimal slop and you're good. I usually use the belly button as a measuring aid but really the bottom of the ribs is the correct spot.
Hello my name is Rafi about a while back I bought myself a army green vest from wish it's the overlapping strap one on the bottom area. I later on purchased a two-piece drama foam pads, when I received them. I noticed it was overlapping on each end of the vest pocket by an inch not being able to fit in the pocket of the vest. Is it possible to modify the foam pads to the fitting of the vest meaning using like a sharp object to cut off a small percentage I need to end. Just need some advice
@@PETRAS_ Slickers are made to fit SAPI plates and should fit 10x12 shooters cut fine with a bit of excess material at the shoulders. The height itself should be correct if not adjustable in the carrier.
10x12 Shooter Cut is considered as Large in Hesco's plate sizing nomenclature. They have the Large 10x12 and the Small 8x10 Shooter Cut plates. Of course single vs multicurve also affects fitment. There was a recent Small 9x11 Swimmer Plate sizing offered in the M210 plate variant but the Large M210 is still 10x12. The only sizing charts that should be uniform are the SAPI sizes for XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL.
Great video! I’m a smaller dude and there aren’t any shops that sell this stuff anywhere near me so no chance of test fitting before I buy. Never thought of using paper as a rough guide. I found that I can actually use a 10x12 plate ok. Paper was a bit small on my chest but I also had a folder that’s 9.5”x11.5” I could use to more accurately gauge how a 10x12 plate would probably fit. It’ll just cover the nips and I should be able to move around and shoulder my rifle without too much restriction. Thanks for putting this out there!

I like HESCO stuff but the L210 is NOT RATED to stop the MOST COMMON .308cal ammo on the market. L210 will NOT stop M80 or M80A1. In fact I am willing to bet that it won’t stop so many of the similar threats like 6.5 Creedmoore, .270Win, .300WINMAG or even the ubiquitous .30-06. I hate to say it bro, but you just bought yourself a heavy false sense of security.
Hesco clearly advertises the threat protection on their site. Each person will have to outweigh the pros and cons of each plate type to suit their needs. That being said, I have 3810s as well. Besides, this video was about sizing using the L210s as the examples.
It’s so hard to find sizing info for smaller guys and plates. Thanks for posting this.
Small SAPIs are the ideal size for me but I like the shooters cut.
