Agree. Wan's horror movies (Conjuring series especially) are far to safe for a bloodthirsty bastard like me, but Malignant delivered big time. Hopefully he'll continue making freaky slashers like this.
Honestly, give girly an Oscar because she acted her damn heart out. I hated this movie until halfway through when I realized it wasn’t really trying to be good, then I was fully in it!
LOVE how much fun they had with this movie and giving up trying to make things make "sense" and just went with let's do something Different. Also all the practical stuff they did with Gabriel was so so fun: the backwards movement and fighting being all done with a real contortionist actor, Madison's face at the back/front being a physical mold, and Gabriel face being an animatronic YES!!!
Gabriel's Inferno part 3 is quite a bold departure from the previous two films, but I command Passionflix's willingness to experiment. Seriously though the twist really reminds me of Clock Tower: Ghost Head.
This movie right here a lot of people are comparing it to Basket Case and I do see the parallels and similarities. Also the actress that played Gabriel is a contortionist in real life and was on America's Got Talent. Also that police precinct scene reminded me so much of The Terminator.
Nah, this movie is EVERYTHING to me. I love the camp, the chaos, the complete lack of true structure. It’s a mess and it’s everything I forgot I needed. Love James wan for this. It was mindless entertainment for me and the twists were pretty good, despite a few plot holes.

I see a sequels in the future
I feel like the issue with most of the horror genre these days is directors take themselves too seriously, especially in the case of the supernatural. Like bruh it's SUPERNATURAL, Get freaky with it
I love this film. The cheese is on purpose. It’s in the vein of the Giallo genre. Absurd storylines with plot holes they don’t give AF about, more mystery than horror with a dash of grotesque violence. Oh and Really loud music in the weirdest spots. Lol my son was calling the cops Wanda Sykes and James Wan’s brother. Maddie had a 1970s kitchen, 1980s car and current washing machine and dryer lol I cannot!😂😂😂
In all honesty I think James Wan just wanted to make something funny af and campy cause he's known as the dude that's done quite a bit for horror but wanted to just direct something off the wall 😭😭
I remember seeing Saw for the first time and that feeling of absolute surprised excitement I had. Jumping up and down and screaming “what?!” It was the first time that I made sure whoever got to see this movie with me would not get one detail from me. Watching their reaction, watching them lose their shit too! Priceless… Malignant is the second time I’ll make sure not to say shit because 😮💨it’s up there with Saw for me for WHOLLY different reasons and for that…I thank James Wan! I don’t know or CARE if it was on purpose of a genius troll but this modge podge of 70s exploitation creature feature first wave 80s slashers a la coke fueled producers with pinky rings and obscene amounts of chest hair riding the lines of Italian Giallo, campy cheese fest is something that I didn’t know I wanted yet I’ve had all these components individually in my collection as is…he put it in one sitting 😍 FUCKING BRILLIANT!!! 😩
Oh it was completely intentional lol. Like Kennie mentioned at the beginning that he wanted to make something batshit/genre blender. He said he intended it to be "the kind of 80's horror/thrillers you would discover on the back shelves of video-stores!" Hell. Yessss. Bmovie love lol.
I loved it. It was different, so I didn’t even care how silly it was at times. From the trailer I thought it was gonna be another demon in the house horror film.
This movie became an inside joke among my friends. They trashed the hell out of it after we finished watching it but honestly I like it, I enjoyed the twists even if they were kinda stupid and I stand by that lmao
I love how it used creepy science instead of paranormal shit. You can only use evil ghosts and demons so many times. Gabriel was just an embodiment of true human evil. No rules, no societal implementations, just the human brain being as violent and brutal by design.
i swear EVERYBODY is doing a review on this movie and i’m loving it, i love hearing everyone’s different takes on it and so many ppl being like “i don’t normally review a movie so soon after release but WTFFFF”
9:55 not reaching tbh, the main theme of the movie is control and how the main character takes control of her body. so i feel like the whole domestic violence thing is intentional as her husband (just like the hospital and gabriel) are all people who try to control the protagonist. the story finally resolves and there is a happy ending because she can finally take control of her own body.
I truly truly liked the backwards fighting even though Maddy’s face looked pretty weirdly cg’d. I also reeeeally liked electrical talk, but they didn’t really address that.
All of the first films in the series Wan created are worth watching: Saw, Insidious, & Conjuring. They all have that little extra ✨SOMETHING✨ that make them fun
Have you seen the new movie Lamb? When I went to go see Candyman, there was a preview for it. I haven't seen it, but it looked very weird and seemed to revolve around a couple living on a remote farm where they raise sheep and thru some means one of the sheep gives birth to a human/lamb hybrid baby. It looks like they start rasing the lamb as their own child. It would be cool to see you review it!
@@toastshine I expected more. It wasn't totally bad, just kind of boring and the ending left something to be desired. I think the original was more interesting. But you know Hollywood, maybe they were jut trying to leave things in a way that they could possibly make a sequel in the future 🙃
@@brookesmith6998 oh man yea i thought it looked a bit boring in the preview as well. it had that feeling of ‘we’re gonna try to make this as intense as possible for this boring movie’ but man HOLLYWOOD LEAVE OLD SHIT ALONE SOME THINGS DONT NEED REMAKES
The conjuring to me at least in the very beginning was very good especially with the fact that it's based off of a true story. One thing that I did find disappointing though after watching videos and listening to the actual family they cut out some of the most terrifying parts and I think that they should have left them in. Life for instance one of the characters woke up with all of the ghost standing around her bed chanting at her.
The story is debated as being real bc the Warrens have lost all credibility. They made several false claims without sufficient evidence and even groomed a teenager. They also apparantly ruined the lives of the family the most recent film was based on. Many people who worked with them debunked their claims. Especially bc they claimed to have seen a real vampire who lived in a real coffin. Like even my 5 year old aint buyin it.
I'm not a fan of horror or gore so the only James Wan film I've seen is Aquaman lol but I'm glad Kennie was talking about how cool the camera work is in this bc the fight scenes in Aquaman were INCREDIBLE. (also the plot of this film does sound cool but yeah I don't think I'd be able to stomach watching it so I'll just have to enjoy the clips Kennie used for this 🤣)
this was camp as hell and so fun! also loved this movie!!!! the parasitic twin thing reveal was the first time i legit gasped and had to walk away for a second - so refreshing lmaooooo
3 cheers for a horror film that doesn't villainize real mental illness and instead makes up a premise ( a beautiful, wild ass, not ableist premise) As someone with a personality disorder who sees people take real shit people go through and make them "evil" and other bs, this was as refreshing as it was unexpected. 10/10
I loved it and I saw it with my twin. It was a fun popcorn movie that adds variety to James Wan's filmography. He deserves to have a blast after all the blockbusters he's brought us. Plus, that chair throw scene...🤣🤣🤣
I also loved the nostalgia from the music and pace because it gives "hardcore" 2000s aesthetic and high energy that's usually from action films in particular of the 2000s.
This movie reminds me of the whole Dr. Jekyll and Hyde fiasco where I was asked if a person could be convicted of a crime if "another person" in the same body did it.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this movie. Def not what I expected going in. As a lover of horror movies I'm pretty critical but I really liked it.
I loved it and find that the people who don’t are too intellectually inept to understand the movie’s goal and purpose. It’s a giallo film not a scary horror movie which seems to go over their heads.
I loved it😂 The movie didn’t take itself too seriously, it was creepy, funny, weird, and suspenseful, I really enjoyed myself!! I’m taking my dad to see it, we used to love watching horror movies together.
I had so much fun watching this film. I screamed and laughed. I was both horrified by the body horror but also amazed by it. It starts so messy that you already know what you’re getting into. It had some spooky moments and some friggin hilarious scenes and amazing action. I think it was great lol. We stan horror camp 👏
Can I just say props to the Sister? I feel like people don't talk about her enough. Like there were so many moments in Malignant where in any other movie (or honestly irl) they would've been like, ok so ur crazy got it bye, but not her. She was 100% down beyond any reason and I loved her for that.
Im so happy youre covering this movie! I loved Malignant! I think the ppl that dislike it didnt know it was supposed to be a silly Giallo like film. I think watching it with that knowledge will shift some perspectives.
I've had the same feelings between old and this. I saw old over a weekend, then malignant the following week. Old was funny because it was bad, but they acted like it was soo good and deep, and I couldn't take it seriously. Like the happening. This one was actually in on the joke. The line delivery. The music drops. Her damn scream. The damn chair throw!! The character design!! It was all so good. I'm def going to own this one because I really need to see the behind the scenes features.
That body dummy flopping in the bathroom scene made me cackle. Me and my mother joked that the detective looked just like Wanda Sykes haha. I absolutely loved this movie, just the chase scene and police station scene are worth the watch.
I loved it & still don't get why some people hate it. We finally got a horror movie that wasn't so basic/mainstream & it had me engrossed the whole time
"It's deep!" Says Kennie. Only skull deep~ When I watched Malignant, it felt like a semi-grimdark comic book origins film. Like we're to expect another movie where whats-her-face becomes a Super Hero in the night.
I knew camp had come to save the day when she tells her adult sister she’s adopted, then you watch this dramatic ass zoom in which leads into a 2000’s pop-y remix of where is my mind??!! When Gabriel is in her MIND?! Throw an Oscar or two over this movie’s way.
I genuinely liked it. It was something from James Wan without involving The Conjuring universe. I wish it kept being campy the whole way versus start campy, serious James Wan, and then camp again.

As soon as I saw him moving backwards in that chase scene, I pieced together that he was on the back of her head. Especially taking into account that her head kept bleeding. Was a bit disappointed I already figured it out but hey.

Agree. Wan's horror movies (Conjuring series especially) are far to safe for a bloodthirsty bastard like me, but Malignant delivered big time. Hopefully he'll continue making freaky slashers like this.
but like can we talk about how BANGING Kennie’s been looking lately? ✨RADIANT✨
Honestly, give girly an Oscar because she acted her damn heart out. I hated this movie until halfway through when I realized it wasn’t really trying to be good, then I was fully in it!
“So you’re telling me…the killer is your imaginary friend?” Immediately fell out, like THIS IS GOLD
Thank god they got a contortionist and didn't use shitty CGI.
The skinny black guy?
@@pyromaniac709 no actually it's an Asian woman. Marina Mazepa.
@@grapeshotgotta have to check her up
Nah, this movie is EVERYTHING to me. I love the camp, the chaos, the complete lack of true structure. It’s a mess and it’s everything I forgot I needed. Love James wan for this. It was mindless entertainment for me and the twists were pretty good, despite a few plot holes.
loved this movie, especially Gabriel's laugh. I know it was supposed to be scary, but it gave me "I'm petty" vibes
I literally have watched this movie everyday since its come out on streaming. I LOVE IT! It's awful and delicious in the BEST of ways!
i’m worried bout u
@@rahimaelmi4037 Same sis.
@@rahimaelmi4037 Don't be. I'm disabled and temporarily unemployed, I have to take that pent up aggression out somewhere until I'm back up. Its a movie not a plan
@@kenyattagibson6389 Love the energy
I loved this film!!! My friend and I were the only ones in the theater and we were laughing our ass off. I wish it got more hype, it would’ve inspired some great memes!
This movie ,especially the soundtrack, reminded me a lot of the horror movies that came out in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Well the guy did direct the saw movies so the music def reminds me of that
Yes! It made me feel so nostalgic
When you said “guess whose always ready to throw hands” I literally choked on my mango iced tea and tripped up the steps and almost died. So please don’t drink while walking when you are watching her videos.
I love how the movie never explained why Gabriel was a master of capoeira or why he could control electricity
Lol..that part.. It had me in the beginning with the using of the electricity but they forgot to explain why or how she could do that... Its like the movie was using bits and pieces of a lot of campy horror movies shoved into one. I kinda figured the plot out halfway the movie, lol! It felt too busy with a lot of unanswered questions. I see a sequels in the future
I feel like the issue with most of the horror genre these days is directors take themselves too seriously, especially in the case of the supernatural. Like bruh it's SUPERNATURAL, Get freaky with it
I honestly enjoyed the campiness this movie brought. They hardly make em like these anymore!
SHE SAID "WANDA SYKES AND YOUNG KEANU REEVES!!!! I AM DEAD"
My cousin and I found this film hilarious, particularly because of the female cop's one-liners.
Priceless…
Malignant is the second time I’ll make sure not to say shit because 😮💨it’s up there with Saw for me for WHOLLY different reasons and for that…I thank James Wan!
He said he intended it to be "the kind of 80's horror/thrillers you would discover on the back shelves of video-stores!"
Hell. Yessss. Bmovie love lol.
Yup why is this limbless twin so ready to throw hands at every moment 😭😭
I loved it. It was different, so I didn’t even care how silly it was at times. From the trailer I thought it was gonna be another demon in the house horror film.
me too i loved that he went in a complete different direction
The way that malignant has been eating my head 😭 this is for me
This movie became an inside joke among my friends.
Ur not alone! I loved it 🖤
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL
the contrast of colors in the thumbnail is giving me life thank you miss editor kennie
It would be cool to see you review it!
was candyman any good? i’ve seen the previews for it at the theatres but haven’t watched it, seemed kinda like a weird premise to me at the time.
Damn SHE SHOULD TOTALLY REVIEW THAT ONE
At this point i’m going to need zzavid and kennie to do a showgirls calab
I'd watch it every day...
I'm not a fan of horror or gore so the only James Wan film I've seen is Aquaman lol but I'm glad Kennie was talking about how cool the camera work is in this bc the fight scenes in Aquaman were INCREDIBLE. (also the plot of this film does sound cool but yeah I don't think I'd be able to stomach watching it so I'll just have to enjoy the clips Kennie used for this 🤣)
Same! Just the few Gore scenes included in kennies video are enough for me
I have never been THIS early. I have nothing to comment, just excited to be a home skillet biscuit watching Kennie!
Yoyoyoyooo
glad suga is a home skillet biscuit 🙏🏼🙏🏼
this was camp as hell and so fun! also loved this movie!!!! the parasitic twin thing reveal was the first time i legit gasped and had to walk away for a second - so refreshing lmaooooo
3 cheers for a horror film that doesn't villainize real mental illness and instead makes up a premise ( a beautiful, wild ass, not ableist premise)
As someone with a personality disorder who sees people take real shit people go through and make them "evil" and other bs, this was as refreshing as it was unexpected. 10/10
I loved it and I saw it with my twin. It was a fun popcorn movie that adds variety to James Wan's filmography. He deserves to have a blast after all the blockbusters he's brought us. Plus, that chair throw scene...🤣🤣🤣
Seriously Kennie. You and Amanda the Jedi need to collab on at least 1 movie.
I just really like Kennie's sweater, looks cozy.
It’s the kind of camp film we used to find randomly in the video shops when I was a kid. I love this film in so many ways.
I loved it and find that the people who don’t are too intellectually inept to understand the movie’s goal and purpose. It’s a giallo film not a scary horror movie which seems to go over their heads.
Ohhh so you’re one of THOSE people
@@rileypaigemc7018 💖
What's a giallo film? :o
@@lucilleballs2291 Think pulp fiction but Italian lol
I've never been so early for a video. Watching you is seriously part of my weekly routine.
Same😭😭
Same here lol
I legit looked at the time and wondered where Kennie was 🤦🏾♀️😂
I loved it & still don't get why some people hate it. We finally got a horror movie that wasn't so basic/mainstream & it had me engrossed the whole time
As soon as you said “X-Files adjacent” you convinced me to watch this movie. I’m a hugeeee X-Files fan
Loving the earrings!
Predestination is a high-budget disgusting mess starring Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook, it deserves to be on BMaaB.
I was the only one laughing my ass off in the movies and I was shocked that no one else thought that it was funny (T_T)
The acting was giving Telenovela, no soap opera, specifically Latina telenovela
"It's deep!" Says Kennie.
Only skull deep~
When I watched Malignant, it felt like a semi-grimdark comic book origins film.
That scene is genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen
13:34 - I actually double took xD Is this the first time Kennie has managed to stop herself filming during the lip application?? XD
I genuinely liked it. It was something from James Wan without involving The Conjuring universe. I wish it kept being campy the whole way versus start campy, serious James Wan, and then camp again.
I was LITERALLY waiting for you to drop this before I have to go to work, you the best Kendall❤️❤️

I loved it! Especially when Gabriel went John Wick n fucked up a whole police station 😂
Not my girl Kendal lookin fineeee
No you're not the only one. Its a modern masterpiece
I just watched this movie recently and oh my god it took me HOURS to figure out how I felt about it and I gotta say… I fucking loved malignant man. It was just so fkn ridiculous and batshit, but at the same time aware enough and it was very obvious that everyone involved knew exactly what kind of film they were making and I just had so much fun watching this mindfuck of a movie unfold. It’s been a minute since I’ve had a movie watching experience like this.
I just subscribed to Girls, Guts, and Giallo on your recommendation from last week and I have determined that you have excellent taste in podcasts along with your good taste in everything else. Thanks Cool Auntie Kennie lol
I loved this movie in all its oddness tone shifts, laughed a lot at the end & had a fun interesting ride watching it!!
That's like a horror version of the video game Beyond: Two Souls
EXACTLLLLLY
I think many people didn’t understand the movie. Any time James Wan creates a horror film it always impacts the industry so much. I hope this fun creative camp makes it way back to horror again!
As soon as I saw him moving backwards in that chase scene, I pieced together that he was on the back of her head. Especially taking into account that her head kept bleeding. Was a bit disappointed I already figured it out but hey.
Lol..me too but I said it out loud to my husband and he thought I looked up the plot.
Literally the second he said "even if they say I'm only in your head" I realized the plot twist. It's good, don't get me wrong, but yeesh that was too fast for my liking.
eh , for u maybe , but i dont think it was that obvious for other ppl
The way the answer to everything is literally in the title 😭 Malignant
I love how she added the question mark beside “bad” in the title since she loved it lol
I feel like both the jail sell and office death scenes just seemed like a very creative way to kill somebody. It also gave me matrix vibes
Wanda sykes and Keanu two of my favorite people
I enjoyed and became low-key obsessed with it. Though that may be because I saw a few spoiler reviews before, so I knew what I was getting.
