SUNDAYS AT THE CHATEAU: MONET'S FORGOTTEN SERIES!

  • This Sunday join my friend Oliver and I as we go to the tiny village of Fresselines, to visit the spot where Monet created a series of paintings of the river Creuse. This largely overlooked series of paintings marked a turning point in his artistic technique, and Ollie tells us why we have the changeable local weather to thank for that!
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau', chatelaine Stephanie answers all your questions about life in the 16th century Chateau de Lalande, and introduces you to the cultural and gastronomic treasures of France ❤️
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. You have made The Chateau Diaries one of the top 1000 Patreon accounts in the world, and have transformed not only out lives here, but the future of this beautiful chateau! I’m overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

With blogs and documentaries. They are so interesting , from homestead farmers , artisans ,pioneers, adventurers, travellers historians and artists of all kinds. It has brought the world to my living room. The Chateau Leland is one such vlog. Stephanie and mommies and her friends and guests are a breath of fresh air. As a child, I remember becoming aware of famous paintings and the ones I liked best were called the Impressionists. It wasn't until some time later that I understood the meaning and that it was a movement that flourished in the face of oppression. From the beginning of time all of "The Arts" have been instrumental in fighting oppression. Thank you again and always Stephanie for your SHARING SOUL: the journey to this enchanted place, the idyllic picnic, Oliver and the joy in his face. What a beautiful gift.

Your channel is an absolute gem. Please don’t let some television channel buy you out and destroy your authenticity and genuineness. I love watching your discoveries and seeing your enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge. Oliver is such a gentleman and his knowledge of art astounds me. He is a true artist. He must have that artist’s studio and gallery you two stumbled upon. Keep these videos coming! I’m an artist, as well, and working on something very special for you, dear Stephanie! I wish I literally was with you and Ollie on your tour of Monet, but somehow I feel like I was there! Thank you!

I have a question for you Oliver- when I was in art college I had a theory that the Impressionists has vision problems. Many of them went blind in later life if I recall (perhaps from the chemicals in the paints?) Indeed when I don’t have my contacts in, the world looks Impressionist. No slight to the genius of how they captured light but perhaps they saw light differently than other people?

Thank you so much Stephanie and Ollie , I felt that I was on this journey with you both, even thought I am sitting on my deck in Dartmouth Nova Scotia , I was transported to Fresselines with you both and I could taste the tart and smell the wonderful smells of the french air and feel the breezes on my skin even thought it is a hot sunny 28 degrees here I could feel the slight chill of the on coming rain. I thank you for reading Monet 's letters to Alice. I have been a fan of Monet's work since I was in high school but this journey with you and Ollie let me get to know Monet better and to feel his passion and frustration for the weather. I will never look the same way at his masterpieces again. I feel that my eyes are wide open instead of half closed This was bliss

What a fabulous Sunday. I am so excited to be in this charming town where Monet lived and painted. Prior to seeing this, I thought Giverney was everything. This delightful picnic was enhanced by you, Stephanie with your joy and reading of Monet's letters and also Oliver's enthusiasm and knowledge. Another reason to come and stay at the Chateau. I loved this day, thank you so much. Mary Ann Recht. I cannot forget the cows!

That property near the chateau is magical and yes, so idyllic for an artist! I loved that little chapel in the small town - so, so gorgeous! And oh my goodness the Rodin Museum in Paris is one of my favorite museums in the world! When Oliver was talking about the changing weather and how it affected Monet's series of paintings, I kept thinking too how much that changing weather helped Monet capture the different lighting on the paintings which is something that has always impressed me in not only Monet's paintings, but others as well is the way they can capture the light with paint. Oh my gosh that thing about having the leaves taken off the tree and what a hard job it was - FOR TWO OTHER MEN!!! And hired someone to dust and wash the water lilies?? Is that true???Thank you for another awesome video!

Thank you Stephanie and Oliver for a fun and informative day in the countryside. Always glad to know more about Monet ("constantly chasing nature") particularly from a spot where he painted. I hope Oliver can find out if the seemingly- abandoned property. is available.

That was a very good vlog. I love how you are so flexible in your travels. The first stop at the house found through serendipity was quite a find. Imagine if it works out and he becomes your new neighbor. I have to admit I did miss mommy and all the excitement that goes on around the chateau. However this was a nice change. Always a pleasure.

Monet was her favorite. Thank you Stephanie and Ollie for such a perfect outting. Will keep today's vlog close by always.

    Wonderful Sunday excursions.
First. An artists' enclave... oh yes [if only I spoke French].
Second. A lovely country village with history.
Third. Oliver's [and your] artistic knowledge of painters canvasses and of this place.
Such a joy to hear these stories.
What a gift for today [like being on a picnic with two friends].
    Thank you. 💖💕😎
