  • I recently purchased a Sailor Pro Gear too hot habanero preloved with a music nib. I probably wouldn't have bought a music nib, but I wanted the pen. After trying the nib for a while I decided that I liked it enough to use it occasionally and not have it ground by a nib meister, but that I would love a smaller nib in this pen body. So I purchased a basic black Sailor Pro Gear from amazon with a medium nib and followed a tutorial by ‪@GoldspotPens‬ to swap the music nib and the medium nib.

There is no such thing as an unswapable nib 😊 there are brands that actually make it easy on you and those that make it difficult for you. As long as you know what you’re doing you’re fine. Thanks to all the great tinkerers who have done it all and shared the knowledge with the rest of us ✨
Great job! Have fun with your Sailors

Thanks - I still haven't dared to yank out a Jowo nib because that always feels like I'll break the feed. But with this one, I felt different. Even though the price for a new Jowo nib is so much cheaper.

@@seemownay I first started swapping nibs with my Pelikans of all pens. But those were screw units, so there was no problem. Then I went on with my 823s. I had a medium nib on the amber and I had just got the fine in my clear one from Japan. I didn't realise at that time that Pilot is one of the 'dificult' brands about tinkering with your pens 😄. Everything just went very smoothly. I've swaped quite a few nibs over the years since then. And you can yank out a jowo nib easily, and I'm sure you won't have any problems with it. But even if you do, it's a good one to mess up and learn from. A replacement won't cost you an arm and leg. The only reason I don't swap nibs anymore is because I have an extensive collection now and I certainly am not a minimalist about it. So that means that I actually have most of the nibs that I want on a pen. But you seem to be a 'curater' of your collection; so actually swaping your nibs is a very handy skill for you and it will keep your excitement going 😊. I would highly recommend Sbrebrown's very very old videos for you. Like his first years on YT. He made a looot of tinkering on many pens that aren't supposed to be messed around with 😉
Fyi: I sent you an e-mail a while back about pens and music nibs. Just a reminder if you are still interrested

@@seemownay I don't think it's easy to break the Jowo feed. It's housing that is always the concern when swapping nibs.

@@muallaemine Yeah the disassembly line. He used to do a whole lot in the early years.

@@ironmic9244 yes he was very 'experimental' in those days. He's probably inspired many of us back then. I still go back to some of his videos if I need to

Great job! I have no idea how people are so brave to try out all this nib swapping but I'm happy for the tutorial. Nothing like feeling accomplished.

Well, I'm convinced - no Sailor nib swapping for me! Too scary. Even though I can imagine use cases for which a swap would be quite handy. Bravo to you; I'm afraid of breaking the feed.

I don't know why this felt doable to me whereas I have never attempted to pull a Jowo nib and feed out of the housing because I always feel like I'll break it.

This was so fun and I loved that "I am aware". I was chuckling along. I have the same black Sailor M and was hoping to do a Just Turnings or Jowo housing with it someday. Though I actually quite like having a black pen. Love having options though!

Very cool. I am glad it was relatively easy for you, and you have it the way you want. The only thing, and it's not a big deal, but the Sailor logo on the nib won't match the cap on the black PG. Tinkers Unite.

I’ve swapped some nibs successfully, (like on Jinhaos and cheap Pilots), but I’m way too afraid to break my Sailors. But thanks for showing us it can be done!
