Just came here after hearing of CJ Snare's (Lead Singer) passing 💔🙏 As a fellow lead singer and lyricist, the hook line for me is "Still, we both know that the road is long, we know that we will be together, because our love is strong!"
That is a great song.... especially at near the end of the song when he sings "When I look Into Your Eyes" in the high note register....I still get chills. This takes me back to high school....I was so in love with this girl... The most beautiful hazel eyes.... Gets me choked up.
Some other Firehouse songs to sink your teeth into - "Don't Treat Me Bad" "All She Wrote" "When I Look Into Your Eyes" "Reach For The Sky" "Here For You" "I Live My Life For You" Bill Leverty is the guitarist for Firehouse and yes they are still active with three of the four original members.
Their ballad mentioned here “When I look into your eyes” is a bad ass tune, showing the lead singer’s ridiculous range. And “Reach for the Sky” is a killer rock song with really cool lyrics.
They didn’t have a ton of hits as other hair bands, but I bet they had the most wedding songs between this song, When I look into your Eyes and I Live my Life for you.
Every glam/rock/hair band has at least one great ballad. Heaven by Warrant, Every Rose has it's Thorn by Poison, Patience by Guns N Roses, Always by Bon Jovi, Love Bites by Def Leppard, Angel by Aerosmith, I Remember You by Skid Row. They are all amazing.
CJ Snare was at my wedding and unbelievably got up and sang this song for us...it still gives me goose bumps 25 years later. It was surreal and so beautiful!!! An amazing musician and human!

Agreed. I've suggested Cinderella to them a few times though, tbh, I think they'd respond best to the full-on bluesy guitar of "Long, Cold Winter." Really, though, with Tom's Janis-esque voice, I think they'd enjoy pretty much any Cinderella song.
Fly To The Angels is my favorite Slaughter song. I cry when I listen to it because I think about people who I love dearly that have passed away. The lyrics are amazing and I definitely want it played when I die with the lyrics printed out for everyone to read and understand ❤♥💕
This actually came out in 1990. I know there was a lot of people thinking that Hair Metal were just pretty boys, but these dudes can sing. Whitesnake, Guns and Roses, Poison, Firehouse, Warrant, Slaughter, they all had at least one "Power Ballad" and they were all perfect songs. My wife and I saw these guys in early 2020 and the lead singer CJ Snare sounded awesome. He still hits the high notes. It was an intimate setting and I was able to ask him how has he maintained his voice? He said he treated his voice like a muscle and that they do tune down some nowadays. I saw them in 1991 and they kicked ass then too. They where from late 80s to mid 90s.
This song holds such a special place I’m my heart!! My husband and I were high school sweethearts and this was “our song” and to this day it’s a very special thing when it comes on our playlists or driving in the car, even after 30 years of marriage it’s still “our song” ❤️ He is my Love of a Lifetime ❤️
Firehouse won best new hard rock band beating Nirvana and Alice in Chains at American Music Awards in 1991. First 3 cd's are really good. Bill Leverty is a great guitarist too.
@@davidpalahinjak8954 - I prefer the original piano version, it gives the song more depth IMO. It sets up the chorus really well. it’s almost a song Steel Panther might write today.
If you want to hear Firehouse rock out then listen to “That was all she wrote.” I got to see my hometown boys before they went national on several occasions and they always put on a great show. They were known as White Heat then but had to change their name because another signed band already had the White Heat name. They became Firehouse. C.J. Definitely one of many 80s rock ballads, and I can only imagine how many times this has been played during a couple's first dance at the Wedding Reception over the years since?!? Love it!
This song is from their first album. It came out in 1990. They hit the tail end of the Hair Band era. They had a sound with their group that if you liked one of their songs you'd like the whole album. That first album was great.... I loved every song. Try "Don't Treat Me Bad" or "All She Wrote". They were also hits from that album. Their second album was almost as good... They had the hits "Reach for the Sky" "When I Look In Your Eyes" and "Sleeping with You". Problems is they didn't do as well because the Grunge Era was starting to take over. Another band around that time that time that got over looked due to Grunge was Danger Danger. They had a great guitarist named Andy Timmons. Their biggest hit was "Bang Bang" or "Naughty Naughty". If you want to hear some of Andy's guitar playing try a short intro he did called "Puppet Show" by Danger Danger. It is only 1:20 but it is SMOKIN'!!!! ruclips.net/video/khmvFS_4K3A/видео.html Andy Timmons has some solo instrumental guitar pieces. One of more notable pieces is "Hiroshima (Pray for Peace)" ruclips.net/video/st8UJMou0js/видео.html
I loved Danger Danger. I think I still have the cassette. lol Another one that came around that time was Bonham, Jason Bonham's band. Wait For You was their biggest song.
Just listened to Danger Danger the other day! Was stationed in Spain in 89 and remember walking back to the barracks with the CD all jazzed up to pop it in the player!
The simultaneous "WOW" was perfect. They tapped into something these hard rock power ballad groups hadnt up to that point. They were truly a revolutionary new sound.
You wanna hear an amazing rock love song, take a listen to "When I'm with You" by Sheriff. The singer's vocal work will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up!
This is my favorite Fire House song. I saw them in concert back in the 80s , they are an amazing band! I have always loved CJ’s voice . I saw him perform at Rockfest in Florida a few years ago, he still has it !
I've seen these guys live 4 times. Always as an opening act, never the headliner. And have always blown me away. If you get the chance to see them live, do it! They opened for Tesla twice, once for Warrant, and once for Warrant, Slaughter, and Quiet Riot.
This was my husband’s and my wedding song. 30 years this month! You two would so enjoy Steelheart, “I’ll Never Let You Go”. They also do a great unplugged version of a song called “Sheila”. Still putting out spectacular music today!
This song was a must at many wedding play list's as well as many other late 80's to early 90's Hair bands. Saw them open up for Kiss and other band's as they crossed the U.S in 90's.
Thank you soo much for playing this as this was our wedding song. My wife wrote out the lyrics and it is right behind our wedding photo. Our wedding was in 2016 and this song came out in the fall of 1991. Btw, you both are doing an amazing job wit your reactions. Keep up the great work.
Bill leverty is a criminally underrated guitarist. They’re from my hometown in North Carolina and I got into them right around high school (I’m 23) but his guitar work on “all she wrote, don’t walk away, reach for the sky and we’re gonna rock you” are iconic
Nope, Bill Leverty is from Richmond, VA. He used to work the produce dept at Ukrop’s Carytown in early 80’s. I know cuz I used to be cashier 7:35 there!😂
They hit it big too late. Like many of the bands from the Great 80's Hair Days, if they didn't hit it huge by '87, they ended up a one album wonder. It's sad because some of the best bands came out in the later years. I saw Firehouse open for Ratt, I think, I'd have to pull out the ticket. They sounded just as good live. My favorite Hair Band is Cinderella. They gave an amazing live show!
Yeah, it felt like one day there were new hair bands cropping up as usual... and then Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" showed up and hair metal was pretty much insta-killed. I remember feeling bad for some of those later bands that launched right before their entire genre keeled over. OTOH, hair metal had kind of reached the stage that all genres do where larger and larger percentages of the new bands were poseurs just jumping on the bandwagon. Tbh, the writing was on the wall when all the metal bands went from releasing only rockers to releasing a rocker and then a power ballad, and then eventually just started releasing the power ballad first (because that's where the money was). Or, in some cases, ONLY releasing the power ballad(s). Chasing the fame and fortune, the hair bands themselves neutered their own genre. And all the "I want money and girls too!" bands who grew their hair out and put on hair metal like a costume watered down what was left until even some superfans like myself were bored and ready for something different. SIDE NOTE: Yeah, Cinderella was awesome. I've recommended a few Cinderella songs to Jay and Amber here though I think "Long, Cold Winter" is the one that would speak to them the most with the straight-up blues guitar and Tom's Janis-y voice. A lot for these folks to like. There were a lot of bands I liked back in the day that kind of make me cringe now but Cinderella is not one of them. They're a perennial favorite.
I really think that the Glam Metal sound, as well as the music video's were really perfected by 1988 to 1992, and there were so many great talented bands in the scene at the time outside of the Ratt's, Motley's, Poisons, etc. It's really too bad the music industry felt the need to bury them because they didn't want to have to pay established Glam Metal bands big money to renew their contracts, especially when they could sign a crap ton of new Grunge/Seattle rock bands for almost nothing, and start a new trend that was exploited, and used up even quicker than the Glam scene was. I get that times change, but people were still listening to Glam Metal in the early 90's, and it was still really popular until those bands were made out to be unfashionable. A ton of people remained fans of Glam Metal long after it died, and even kids who weren't alive back then love that music thanks to their fathers, and mothers exposing them to that music. So many people treat the power ballads as if they were cheesy soft rock written to make millions of dollars by default off of their albums. While that may be partially true, the goal of every album ever made from every band is to make songs that grip people emotionally, so why is it any different with power ballads from the Glam bands? A great song is a great song, no matter what genre it comes from, and whether people like it or not, the 80's/early 90's had a lot of the greatest ballads of all time, and they showed the musical talent of the bands that wrote them. It's just too bad that those bands, and songs were made out to be cheesy cooperate rock, which I think is just the opinions of a bunch of 90's, and 2,000's kids on depression meds trying to be edgy, and cool.
Actually they had two huge hit albums and one best new artist beating Nirvana at the American music awards in 1990. They have continued to produce music, much like many of the "hair bands" and recently have reached 25 years together as a band continueing to tour and have huge crowds.
Love love love this song and CJ Snare's voice! You def must check out “I Live My Life For You”, "Here For You", and "When I Look Into Your Eyes" breathtaking!!
Just saw this reaction. I'm sure you've learned by now that the singers name is 4:09 CJ Snare, and you make learned the guitarist is Bill Leverty. I discovered Firehouse accidentally when they opened for someone else and fell in love with their sound. This is a great ballad. Another great balkad is WHEN I LOOK INTO YOUR EYES. But if you want rock check out REACH FOR THE SKY or ALL SHE WROTE.
Thank God someone finally did a reaction to Firehouse. Great job! Even if you don't do a reaction to them again check out their self titled debut album. It rocks!!!! Other tracks to check out are "Don't Treat Me Bad", "All She Wrote", "Reach For The Sky", and my favorite "Overnight Sensation". Really any song you do from their debut alum you can't go wrong. Ohh... The lead singer's name is CJ Snare and the guitarist is Bill Leverty.
Firehouse was another overlooked/underated band at the beginning of the 90's. The burn out from so many hair bands that sounded so alike and then the Nirvana wave that hit right after stopped Firehouse along with others like, Hardline, from ever getting the credit they deserved.
Listen to "Don't Treat Me Bad", "When I Look Into Your Eyes" and "All She Wrote" for sure. That said, ballads were a big part of rock bands' catalogs back then. Just a few to try.. Warrant-"Heaven", Bad English-"When I See You Smile", Europe-"Carrie", Steelheart-"I'll Never Let You Go", Mr. Big-"To Be With You", Extreme-"More Than Words", Boston-"Amanda", Alias-"More Than Words Can Say", Survivor-"The Search Is Over", Bon Jovi-"I'll Be There For You", Foreigner-"I Want To Know What Love Is", Saigon Kick-"Love Is On The Way", Sheriff-"When I'm With You", Slaughter-"Fly To The Angels", L.A. Guns-"The Ballad Of Jayne", Cheap Trick-"The Flame", Poison-"Every Rose Has Its Thorn", Night Ranger-"Sister Christian", Bon Jovi-"Never Say Goodbye"
They already reacted to "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. You mentioned a lot of good songs by a lot of good bands. Don't know if you realized it or you are just sneaking it in there lol, but you mentioned Bon Jovi twice. My favorite by Bon Jovi is "Always" and Survivor is "I Can't Hold Back".
IMO this is in the top 5 greatest love songs ever written and sang! Love of a lifetime has everything you want Lyrics, Voice Guitar and the song builds to Pure Perfection!!
One of the lines in this song was "The road is long", which reminded me of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by the Hollies. You really should listen to that song. You would LOVE it!
Just recently discovered your channel, love you guys. Nice to see the reactions of the newer generation to the AMAZING 80's tunes. The music then told a story and evoked emotions that today's music could never match. Truly the music of a generation!!
A couple of other great love ballads from this band are "When I Look Into Your Eyes" and "I Live My Life For You". The music videos for all three songs have the most views on their VEVO channel.
Firehouse is an 80's hair band that came out to late. Got their start around 89-90 which was the later stages of hair metal. I'm sure they would have many more hits if they had hit around 85.
There are just so many 60s - 80s bands that you can't pick a favorite. This is some of the best of the best music of any era that has been pushed to the back of the burner. Should be running front
LOL the two of you need to understand and keep in mind I'm 56 years old some of the greatest rock songs the most incredible vocals that was ever created was by the 80s rock bands. What you thought was high notes that the lead singer was being able to perform you really need to listen to some of their other songs it will blow you away. Thank you so very much for playing a song that is so dear and close to my heart
One thing you have to remember about this genre of music is this one fact. Almost every group had to have at least one ballot from each album to use as a selling point and to stay revelant. This song was there first in their first album. On their second album they have a valid called where I look into your eyes. It was mine and my wife's high school song. I graduated two years before her. Went to basic training there in Oklahoma he lost contact with her. After 25years I heard this song again old XM radio and decided to look for her. I found her and we started dating again. We got married 6 months later. That was in 2015. And we could never be happier. We were truly blessed by that group and their god-given talent
This is the song I walked down the isle to on my wedding day 24 years ago!!!!! You really need to check out Steelheart "I'll Never Let You Go". Another amazing love song!!!! Their lead singer, Mili, has an amazing voice with amazing range. The whole band is amazing!!!! A rabbit hole you need to go down!!!!!!!
@@davidpalahinjak8954 19 years with 3 beautiful kids. Right before we got together my father passed away and my mother 11 months before him. I was in a dark place for a long time and would shut everyone out of my life but he didn’t give up on me. He saved me from wanting to leave this world too. He’s my reason.
One of my favorite songs. It has special meaning to me. Great reaction. If you want range, check out Steelheart "I'll Never Let You Go" (Official Video). Not many can get higher than that.
Firehouse is my band, bad ass in the mid 80's to early 90's. Try out Don't Treat Me Bad, they broke out with that hit first before Love of a Lifetime. CJ Snare is one of the best, most original frontmen of all time! His voice is on the higher end of the octavie register and so pure, even today! Thanks, I enjoy you and just now finding you.
This was released June 2, 1991. My wife and I started dating in August of 91. I played this for her when I first told her I loved her that year. We’ve been married 25 years and together for 30. I was 17 and she was 19. There has been no one else for either of us.
I met my husband June 29, 1991 and we have been married 27 years. We were quite a bit older though, at 33 and 36 when we met. But, I waited for the right one!
Firehouse, "Don't Treat Me Bad". I think they were definitely underrated. Great band though. The base guitar player, Perry Richardson plays for Stryper now. Stryper was an 80's Christian hairband (that still tour). You need to dive into their music. "Honestly", "Always There For You", "Free", "To Hell With the Devil" are a few suggestions.
If you want another rocking ballad, you have got to hear STEELHEART "I'll Never Let You Go"!!! Miljenko Matijevic, voice and range was astronomical!!!!
This song came out right before my wife and I got married. 30yrs later, and it's still our anthem. There is an acoustic version of this. And that's our favorite version. Although, I have found a new one. Someone by Aaron Lewis. Not expecting a reaction, but y'all should give it a listen.
This became such a trend in the late 80's when hair bands were having these huge hits with ballads. It became expected of them to have at least one on the album.
I'll reiterate what several other have said. They are a great band that just missed on huge success as they came around towards the end of the hair band days. This is my wife's favorite band and we have seen them twice in the last several years, once right before Covid and again a couple months ago. I was very leery that CJ could still sing like this, but he was as good or even better than ever. I was blown away. This song also has special meaning, I had CJ do a Cameo for my wife for our last anniversary and he sang this for my wife in the video. Also on a side note, the bass player is now the bass player for Stryper.
That sound you're talking about, I have always described as the "80's whine". It is inherent in almost all of the 80's power ballads. There is a hard rock edge to what is, in a sense, a love song or a song about heartbreak. To me it is one of the most telling signs of an 80's song. Love you guys!

It's the way he EMOTES when he is singing. He is a trained vocalist who who do warm ups before every show and sounded that good live too! His name is CJ Snare. It came out in 88 or 89.
He still takes care of his voice and sounds amazing live. He avoided the alcohol, drugs and cigarettes and it shows.

Imagine working in a record/CD store those days. It was soooo much fun. We blared this on in-store play. ❤️❤️❤️
I loved Danger Danger. I think I still have the cassette. lol
Another one that came around that time was Bonham, Jason Bonham's band. Wait For You was their biggest song.
Just listened to Danger Danger the other day! Was stationed in Spain in 89 and remember walking back to the barracks with the CD all jazzed up to pop it in the player!
That is funny, I only like one song. And this one ain't it.
The simultaneous "WOW" was perfect. They tapped into something these hard rock power ballad groups hadnt up to that point. They were truly a revolutionary new sound.
This was one of the songs my wife and I played as our wedding songs. It brings back such great memories. Thanks for sharing with nice reactions.
If that blows your mind, try "I'll Never Let You Go or "She's Gone" by Steelheart.
Mili will blow their minds!
Every 80's hair band put out "power ballads and most of them were amazing. You guys have female Friday, you should have a day for power ballads.
A power ballads day
A Midnight Special day
Female Friday
Country day
Crooners day
Rock and Roll day
Hippie Day
You wanna hear an amazing rock love song, take a listen to "When I'm with You" by Sheriff. The singer's vocal work will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up!
Yes!!
Played at our wedding
Freddy Curce. Peerless voice
Indeed, and he had 2 one hit wonders with 2 differet bands.
man, its been SO long since i heard that track
Wow this brings me back to my high school days I miss this kind of music
Indeed. It was played at mine 1991. Perfect timing since it came put in 1990. I saw them a few years ago. CJ still sounds the same.
She's so sweet, I love her reaction to the sweetness of the lyrics.
Damn, this takes me back. What a great song!
We danced to this at our wedding! Always makes me feel good listening to it.
I know cuz I used to be cashier 7:35 there!😂
I love how this song modulates to the next key and he can show off his vocal prowess!😎😎😎😎😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have always loved Firehouse and CJ's voice, absolutely amazing!!!
Also check out, "When I look into your eyes", another awesome song from Firehouse!
Kudos you 2!!!
R.I.P. CJ Snare.😢😢 You'll be missed 😢😢
I was still a teen. I graduated hs in '89. I always recorded Headbanger's Ball on MTV Sat nights.
Ohh... The lead singer's name is CJ Snare and the guitarist is Bill Leverty.
shake and tumble and how the dream would have been good suggestions as well.
Firehouse was another overlooked/underated band at the beginning of the 90's. The burn out from so many hair bands that sounded so alike and then the Nirvana wave that hit right after stopped Firehouse along with others like, Hardline, from ever getting the credit they deserved.
Yeah, Hardline with Neal Schon from Journey, was really talented with some cool songs!
I hate Nirvana so much for killing the fun. Well, grunge in general. They weren't that great. And Dave Grohl can shut up about politics.
Great list of songs!
IMO this is in the top 5 greatest love songs ever written and sang! Love of a lifetime has everything you want Lyrics, Voice Guitar and the song builds to Pure Perfection!!
4:21 “and every star up in the sky was made for me and you” i love her reaction there, i wish my girl was into 80s songs 😅
Awesome pick! This was actually our wedding dance song .
One of the lines in this song was "The road is long", which reminded me of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by the Hollies. You really should listen to that song. You would LOVE it!
Ok..I’m going to bug you again, lol..”I’ll never let you go” Steelheart. Please, please..you will be blown away by his voice.
for real..he can hit those high notes
Omg steel heart sucks complete ass🤦♂️
If you have to beg…
@@johnphillipsjr7238 Cool story, bro
Literally one of the MOST underrated bands of all time. Love me some Firehouse. ❤❤❤
Just recently discovered your channel, love you guys. Nice to see the reactions of the newer generation to the AMAZING 80's tunes. The music then told a story and evoked emotions that today's music could never match. Truly the music of a generation!!
Now you need to do When I’m With You by Sheriff :-) - another great power ballad.
At a time it held the record for the longest note held.
My wedding song, lol
No, no, no, Amber! All the hair bands from the 80s and early 90s had at LEAST one beautiful love ballad. That's really what drew their female fans in.
Also some hot band members 😀
A couple of other great love ballads from this band are "When I Look Into Your Eyes" and "I Live My Life For You". The music videos for all three songs have the most views on their VEVO channel.
I grew up with these tunes. The smiles on your faces say it all! Still gives me chills. Love it!
Amber, Rockers need love, too!!! Nothing like a good key change. Next, check out their song When I Look I to Your Eyes.
"Don't Treat Me Bad" and "When I Look Into Your Eyes" are two other good ones from them for sure!
Firehouse is an 80's hair band that came out to late. Got their start around 89-90 which was the later stages of hair metal. I'm sure they would have many more hits if they had hit around 85.
There are out of my home town of Richmond, Virginia. Played the local scene for a few years before hitting main stream.
Don't Treat Me Bad was their absolutely awesome kickass rocker off the same album! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Forever by KISS is another brilliant acoustic/electric power ballad from the 1980's! 😎🔥🤘🎸
That was the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding. ♥️
Gotta start with ‘Beth”. The original power ballad from Kiss.
Arguably the song that started the whole category.
@@sloebone7399 Beth is a good song but Forever has got it covered! 😎🔥🤘🎸
@@bethfong2233 I hope you still are forever (I mean together)? 🤣😎🔥🤘🎸
@@davidpalahinjak8954 We are! He’s a big Kiss fan. He even sings and plays “Beth” for me! I’m definitely keeping him!
Sorry about the typos guys. Voice recognition likes to screw up
This is total 1980 to 1990 ! Metal hair bands ! Best 10 years of music all time ! His name is CJ Snare ! Firehouse was one of the great ones !
Rip Cj snare . Criminally underrated singer
This is a very intense love song, beautifully written and gorgeous vocals by CJ Snare! Great video guys!
The Reason by Hoobastank is one of the greatest power ballads of all time! 😎🔥🤘🎸
This song my husband and I song. I have a tattoo with our names forming the infinity sign with the words The Reason going through it
@@deannatyler880 I hope you still are together? 🤣😎🔥🤘🎸
@@deannatyler880 Wow what an amazing, beautiful, truly inspirational story of love conquering all! 😃🔥♥️XO
Firehouse - Don’t Treat Me Bad video should be up next. One of my favorite bands ever. Great unique vocals and straight rock sound.
Have to listen to TRIXTER , especially their song ," Give it too me Good". They tour still with Firehouse. And they are late 80's, early 90s.
Ah, yes, the 80's power ballad!
@@debbiepochy6751 that’s so awesome! Thank you for sharing. We don’t hear this much these days.
I’m getting married next year and this song is going to be our first dance song ❤️
I loved firehouse back in the day this was one of my favorite songs it just brings me back ty for reaching
Have Without You by 3 Doors Down is one of the greatest power ballads of all time! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Please watch their official video!!!
This song came out right before my wife and I got married. 30yrs later, and it's still our anthem. There is an acoustic version of this. And that's our favorite version. Although, I have found a new one. Someone by Aaron Lewis. Not expecting a reaction, but y'all should give it a listen.
One of my favorite power ballads...missed this when I was looking for reactors doing this era... Thank you Thank you
This became such a trend in the late 80's when hair bands were having these huge hits with ballads. It became expected of them to have at least one on the album.
It wasn’t released til June of 91
@@Shawn-rq4py My point still stands. Firehouse were at the tail end of it.
Another underrated band is Dr Hook.. "Sexy Eyes"
"Better love Next Time"
"Sylvia's Mother"
Don't forget Cover of the Rolling Stone
@@54cattleco
Not heard that one. I'm off to go listen to it. I'll be back.
Well, that was different. But I liked it. They certainly liked to have fun. X
She has great taste. This and To Be With You were my jams.
That sound you're talking about, I have always described as the "80's whine". It is inherent in almost all of the 80's power ballads. There is a hard rock edge to what is, in a sense, a love song or a song about heartbreak. To me it is one of the most telling signs of an 80's song. Love you guys!
Great White “Save all your love”!!! Stellar 80s love song!!!
