No protection. Half the car parts I've ever ordered that arrived packaged like that were scuffed and smashed all to hell - and you might be thinking steel shafts, but rather things like interior cover plates and switches. I'm genuinely surprised nothing was snapped - whoever handled final delivery must be a fellow weab.
Man i still remember going to mcm London Comicon for the first time years ago as an international student with the weeaboo club and finding out one of my uni mates bought a bootleg Garden of Sinners Shiki thinking it was real. He was so happy on the way home on the bus until i pointed out it was a bootleg, his smile immediately turned sour upon realization. The bootleg itself isn't awful but isnt good either but he obviously overpaid for it.
What I hate the most about the bootlegs are not the bootlegs themselves. Is that 90% of the time, the sellers use the official stock photos of the official figures that have nothing to do with what you'll actually get. At least these bootlegs could be excellent custom fodders for those who know how to paint.
Some of these look like they would be really fun to customise and make look better. I'd be tempted to display that Duke of York with the full-size one as-is, because they look surprisingly nice together. $40 is obscene for a bootleg but it looks like a really cute prize version.
I started off with bootleg and re-painted them myself for fun. If there is no bootleg then I purchase the original myself depending on the figure. I limit myself and only buy figures that I really want, to retain a more clean classy museum aesthetic, rather than a cluster look. I do not mix and match bootlegs with original, I have a separate display for my paints / GK. This hobby isn't cheap, if you want to buy bootlegs than all the power to you and your wallet.
Once you get over shipping Amiami is pretty cheap for pre-owned figures. Towards the begining I got a bootleg Miku from Amazon and recently got a real Miku from Amiami for only a few dollars more and she looks much better. Of course there are expensive figures but you can still get cheap ones for a good price.
I was once one of those guys who got himself a bootleg figures, not because I wanted, but because authentic figures that I wanted was really expensive(( Not all of bootlegs that I bought were bad, but after I got myself Skadi from QuesQ, I understood that it is better to have few original figures, instead of bootleg. Thanks Ken, you were the reason why I wanted to buy original figures. You always show high quality figures and your videos are really great. Can`t wait for your next figure overview
I've personally found bootlegs to be kind of fun for basing and dioramas. I did a custom base for a friend's Figma Saber using a bootleg that was modified and repainted as a broken statue of her.
"Just get prize figures" Okay, point me to where they make prize figures of azur lane, blue archive, genshin and most fgo characters. A lotta people want figures of characters they like, not just getting figures for the sake of getting figures and often times bootlegs are the only option that's in a reasonable price range.
LOL i knew someone would bring up this point, id honestly just advise to save up for the actual thing then, instead of settling for some low quality junk, but thats just my two cents. They DO make prize figures for those series though, maybe not of every character but they do exist.
i'm waiting for those too. I have scale Ganyu and race queen Atago and they are amazingly detailed (and amazingly expensive). I also have a bootleg Ganyu that's actually quite nice (relatively) but also a second bootleg that isn't nearly as great.
Hmmm that is an interesting point. Maybe gacha games rely on whales a lot so when contracting figures they went high end. In contrast to standard animanga properties whose production committes most likely already include Bandai/Sega and owners of arcades.
@ actually that makes sense. the games could be thinking that since many of their customers are whales, that means they have the money to afford scale figures XD
I have one bootleg in my small collection. I have The Alluring Queen Pharnelis. It's not horrible, but the paint has that reddish tent in multiple places.
I have Queen Pharnelis and Goblin by Model Age (Native Frog knockoff). It's actually silicone skin and came with an inkjet-printed postcard lol. The weird thing is that the picture in the postcard is the cast-off mode and I couldn't even find that variant in image hosting sites, only the dress-on original picture by Oda Non.
Fun-fact about the Chitanda figure, I own the official one it's a prize figure, it costs the same as the bootleg, why the hell would you ever want the bootleg wtf.
I started collecting with bootlegs (which I've gotten rid of) and I remember the Mythra bootleg looking pretty good, except for the base being bent and the pegs not going all the way and the worst part being the fact that it did not come with a support rod so she leaned all the way down eventually. But the sword looked pretty good, one thing with bootlegs though, you never know what they're going to look like with the worst possible and non-existent quality control. Never buy bootlegs, they're not worth it, if figures are too expensive for you in your country, buy prize figures, they're pretty affordable and look much better than bootlegs, I have a mix of prize and scale figures in my collection so you can try starting with prizes and if you really enjoy the hobby, eventually level up to buying a scale figure or two, I know the struggle coming from a third world country so no excuses.
There's also a Chizuru floating around and when I looked it up they didn't base it on a scale but a prize so I was like wtf why even bother it's just a $3-$5 difference at that point.
I'm happy you got around to releasing this video! I remember talking to you about awhile ago about the idea haha. That to love ru one could fool me, looks like a 2012 scale figure
Glad to see you actually do a dedicated bootleg video... I've dabbled in a few bootleg figures myself because it's really hard to justify the obscene prices legitimate figures are selling for these days, sometimes the prices on Temu & AliExpress are just too cheap not to at least see what you might get. It is a gamble though, i've seen the quality all over the place with the bootlegs i've ordered...case in point, the bootleg Azur Lane St. Louis figure, every one i've seen has been discolored or just out right yellow but on the flip side the bootleg Honolulu figure isn't too bad aside from the removable top which was the only thing on that figure that lacked any detail and looked cheap. With that said, that's one reason why bootleg figures will have a small space in my figure collection, some are cast off where the originals aren't...the problem is finding them with decent quality. So far the bootlegs I've actually kept are the 1/7 Alice from Nikke, Tsuki in the cow print bikini from Uzaki Chan Wants To Hang Out which is cast off, and the Azur Lane Honolulu figure which is also cast off. I might have to order that bootleg Duke of York figure, honestly i prefer the smaller scale...not everyone has either the money or the space to buy 1/4 scale figures and for me personally I like my figure collection to be around that 1/6th to 1/7th scale. Anyways, I think bootleg figures have a place for a cheap entry point to cash strapped fans & collectors or those interested in customizing them. I don't mind them myself but where i draw the line is vendors trying to sell bootleg figures at conventions and shows for legitimate figure prices, in that I don't blame the bootleg manufacturers in China as much as the scum bags who set up at the shows or resell online with the intent to deceive people.
Yep I got a St Louis Luxury Handle cast-off (the original wasn't or at least isn't without damaging it) and got a Marin Kitagawa which looks like a PVC bootleg of an expensive garage kit. The paintwork of the former needed work but the latter is Taito quality. This is where you can get lewd figures at prize figure prices.
Emiya Shirou once says: These are all imitations. As you say, these are all trifling figures. But there is no rule that says an imitation cannot defeat the original.
Sometimes I’m tempted to get bootlegs of the original figures I own just to compare them, but the main thing that stops me is wondering what I’d do with them afterward, hahaha. Nice video, thank you!
Gonna be honest, I'd be tempted to buy one such bootleg and repaint it. Just making the eyes a bit more vivid and competently painted would go a long way.
There are really good 40-60$ bootlegs of the FREEing bunnies (expensive for a bootleg, I know, but it's cheaper than 350$ for the original) and other bigger figures, kinda sad that they're not represented here.
I suspect the good quality one comes from the same factory/mould from the original one, just it doesn't pass the QC or without finishing done (e.g. cleaning the seam or putting a topcoat to remove the shininess). Those with less sharp moulding most likely a recast from the original one or from Garage Kit, I think?
I got a bit of bootlegs and I must say that it is either win or lose. It is almost no point to buy cheap bootlegs of figures that are not that expensive. The game starts when you buy 1/4 figures, many of them can look quite well, like the 1/4 figure of Duke of York, the difference is big
I think years ago I bought a Ryougi Shiki off Ebay for cheap, and once I found out bootlegs were a thing I assumed I had bought a bootleg and stopped caring about it. To the point it fell off a shelf and the sword broke. Later on I bought a rerelease of it, I think. Nowadays... I think I was wrong about it being lesser quality, so either it was a really good bootleg... or I just let a real one break. I eventually got a more dynamic one that I display more prominently. Also, that Chitanda really looks like the prize figure.
The only bootlegs I've gotten that I actually really like are the Nekopara Native Binding ones since they weren't available anymore. Like $60 and actually really good quality. One of them was even silicon so her shin is squishy lol. Pretty neat. The rest are pretty much as you showed here. They look fine from afar but I don't even want to display them because they bring the overall quality of my collection down. Plus it's supporting cheap knockoffs instead of the original manufacturer and series, which isn't ideal.
This was a fun and interesting video! R.I.P. the money you spent on these figures. I hope you were able to find a spot for them, because we all know they need to be seen 😂 Thank you for putting out the video and keep up the hard work!
I don't really do expensive figures often but I've gotten bootlegs in the past and they're awful like green eyebrows on a blonde haired character and super terrible molding and all. Like parts legit coming apart and horrible seams and awful all around lol. A decent boot leg could be cool though but usually they just look way too off. Molding and coloring seem to be the biggest issues. And don't forget when the faces look off lmao
Had you uploaded this video on Patreon back then? I thought I had a massive case of Déjà-vu until the last seconds of the video where you mentioned it was originally filmed in January 2024 😂
10:42 I was expecting you to follow that up with "get yourself real titties" lmao I always watch your videos on my main monitor and on the highest quality, because I just love your editing and the way you record yourself and the figurines from multiple angels. Low-quality/Cheap figures/prize figures still deserve love. Bootlegs don't deserve love and should never be purchased. Honestly, I was looking forward to this video, "Bootlegs vs Real" and I loved it! (Never stop posting)
the bootleg figure only i buy is only in chibi form also i pick the goodlooking face if i want cheap original i go to those japan surplus sell some secondhand anime figure and tokusatsu figure
I know it's for rare for you to buy prize figures but I would like to see one like of miku or steins gate I remember you saying you would buy love is war , the quintessential quintuplets are cute too but you don't have just an idea
I have the yukino original and bootleg one. use the bootleg one to put on my car dashboard cause its cheaper. wouldnt want original one get sun damage now do we.
Does bootlegs are premium bootlegs they are all aceptable and some of them great, in mi contry you will cry of how bad the bootlegs are at the price of the original one.
Thank you for the awesome video~ I'm surprised there were any acceptable quality bootlegs from the pile, digging up this video was a great choice~ Thank you for all your hard work, Please keep it up m(_ _)m I hope your having a lovely day, Have a wonderful week, Be safe and Take care out there wherever you are (^=W=^)7 And you too fellow viewer~ Also please don't mind my obligatory "Woooo~ Land waste"
Honestly I don't really mind the St Louis one, I already spend way too much on plastic crack so a goofy looking waifu at an affordable price doesn't sound too bad
dont hate me but i buy a bunch of bootlegs cuz im not trying to drain my bank account on anime figs lol, but when i do im always careful about which ones i buy so ill look at reviews for them etc so i know which ones dont have pieces that will fall off or break off easily
Yes you are right most of bootleg are garbage, but some rare, very rare case are amazing in cost/quality, personally i have a Ganyu from genshin impact that is better of most of my prize figure ( bootleg of 1/7 Boufuuchuu no Kamihikouki), and a Eris from Mushoku Tensei that is pretty decent ( bootleg of 1/8 Kotobukiya).
the packaging alone makes one man cry
barely any boxes 🤣🤣🤣
No protection. Half the car parts I've ever ordered that arrived packaged like that were scuffed and smashed all to hell - and you might be thinking steel shafts, but rather things like interior cover plates and switches. I'm genuinely surprised nothing was snapped - whoever handled final delivery must be a fellow weab.
yeah especially for people who love to collect boxes (I do)
when conventions sellers tries to sell at original price bootlegs...
LOL the worst! My friend bought a figure for a little less than msrp thinking it was original but it was actually a bootleg 💀
yeah those lmao 😂😂😂
Man i still remember going to mcm London Comicon for the first time years ago as an international student with the weeaboo club and finding out one of my uni mates bought a bootleg Garden of Sinners Shiki thinking it was real. dude you are seriously sooo underrated, I love your videos sooo much and often share them with my friends please never stop doing what you do :>
Appreciate that!

Yes when even bootlegs are approaching $60, there are so many pre-owned deals on Amiami that are around that price.
That closing statement is peak KenKen. o7
I was once one of those guys who got himself a bootleg figures, not because I wanted, but because authentic figures that I wanted was really expensive((

This was fun, especially where you had the side by side with the real figures. Some of the faces were truly tragic. Thanks for the video!
Faces are the worst thing after coloring and molding lol
2 kenken videos in a week we are truly blessed
I have one bootleg in my small collection. I have The Alluring Queen Pharnelis. It's not horrible, but the paint has that reddish tent in multiple places.

I unfortunately bought a few bootlegs in my youth, not knowing that they were. 😅 Back in the early 2000s, you bought what you could get your hands on.
What a fun video! I had some good laughs seeing the quality of these bootleg figures. Thanks for sharing!
Fun-fact about the Chitanda figure, I own the official one it's a prize figure, it costs the same as the bootleg, why the hell would you ever want the bootleg wtf.

💀
9:08 you vs the ones she tells you not to worry about

woah.. that duke looks really good for a bootleg wtf...
Love your videos so much and always excited to see you post. So underrated and these videos are seriousy good quality keep it up!!!
Seeing you chuckle over some of these figures made my day 😂
Man that saber figure made me laugh more than it should have
Scary how decent some of these turned out... Guess you gotta be extra careful if you're buying secondhand with no box! 😂
As the old saying goes “You get what you pay for”. Great content KenKen and thank you for uploading this review video. Keep up the good work.
LoL the delivery for bootleg is a lot faster than Canada post 😂
I wouldnt touch my mouth or nose right after handle all of those... plastic 😂
honestly surprising the quality of some of them for the price they are
Emiya Shirou once says: These are all imitations.
3:40 darned discord ping LOL
This was a very fun video. Price quality wise some definitely surpassed my expectations.
Funny video. I love the mental image of someone trying to shove like 10 figures into a single bag like their life depends on it!😂
Gonna be honest, I'd be tempted to buy one such bootleg and repaint it. Just making the eyes a bit more vivid and competently painted would go a long way.
4:24 is how the genuine ones are as well, it's pretty annoying if you want to move them around
I should start looking into bootlegs, my AmiAmi package is stuck in customs since 11 days... Gonna be 150-200 bucks again 😭
Hey they actually put real fishnet stockings on her, so that's a plus. Also Kurumi's clock eye is so bad XD
There are really good 40-60$ bootlegs of the FREEing bunnies (expensive for a bootleg, I know, but it's cheaper than 350$ for the original) and other bigger figures, kinda sad that they're not represented here.

The moment u noticed your consequences what to do with the bootlegs just tells the pain and i already had pain seeing how its packaged 😭😭😭
When I first started collecting, I did purchase a couple Miku's bootlegs. Absolutely regretted that decision. Never again.
I sometimes get some bootleg figures for when I am not able to find the official at a reasonable price
Didn't expect that some of these are not that bad, but I will stick to the original ones.
Love my Yui Kotegawa from Alter and never would abandon her.
Rightfully so!
4:34 Sounds like a giveaway to me.
i’m so surprised the pegs fit the base pretty well hahaha the hair sculpts bother me so much tho even if from afar they don’t look too bad lol
I know right lmao I was expecting none of the pegs to fit 😂
6:09 i was DYING
Look how they massacred my girl Yukino. They turned her into my sleep paralysis demon...
This was a fun and interesting video! R.I.P. the money you spent on these figures. I hope you were able to find a spot for them, because we all know they need to be seen 😂 Thank you for putting out the video and keep up the hard work!
hello fellow kenken enjoyers
I have the aqua girl Miku and I agree it’s weird just having her sit with no pegs and she’s difficult to balance
I thought I had a massive case of Déjà-vu until the last seconds of the video where you mentioned it was originally filmed in January 2024 😂
i think bootleg figures have like a concerning amount of lead and other bad stuff in them lol😭stay safe bro
🤝
Hahaha I bought my first figure and it was bootleg never again…. And this was before I found your channel!
10:42 I was expecting you to follow that up with "get yourself real titties" lmao
I always watch your videos on my main monitor and on the highest quality, because I just love your editing and the way you record yourself and the figurines from multiple angels. I don't know much about video recording, but your videos always look the best amongst all other youtuber I follow. Keep it up man!
Thank you everyone for your support of the Authentic Plastic Tiddy industry.
Keep the yukino one as a reminder about the bootleg figures
Bootleg quality is most dependent on how they are made. Most of the common, super cheap ones are re-cast, where they make a cast off of a figure and go from there. Those are... bad.
There are better ones... but unless you know somebody or is buying in person, good luck ever getting one of those. Because they are selling bootlegs, hardly the definition of upstanding citizen, why would they give you anything but the bottom of the barrel? So the qualtiy (or lack thereof) you get here is pretty much what you are gonna get when you buy bootleg online.
ken bought bootlegs so we wouldn't have to but i'd argue popups and prizefigs are just as bad if not worse.
use to buy some action figure ones for additional parts/for mods but I've heard you gotta be careful as some have poisonous paints or so I've heard.
hey what kind of camera do you use
With the bootlegs you could do a giveaway with them lol.
Im thinking of buying the Overlord Albedo Season4 so-bin ver. 1/7 Complete Figure as one of my first big figures, do you think its a good choice?
its on sale right now on amiami too
So where did these bootlegs go? 😂
Pronouncing Scathach's name in Japanese is throwing me for a LOOP.
No way none of them break 😂
muchas gracias por incluír el doblaje en español ✌️
The package only already make me angry. But the difference between the original and Bootleg Scathach is offensive.
Low-quality/Cheap figures/prize figures still deserve love. Bootlegs don't deserve love and should never be purchased. Honestly, I was looking forward to this video, "Bootlegs vs Real" and I loved it! (Never stop posting)
the bootleg figure only i buy is only in chibi form also i pick the goodlooking face
if i want cheap original i go to those japan surplus sell some secondhand anime figure and tokusatsu figure
You became the one thing you sought to destroy.
🤣 unfortunately
Some of these are genuinely good wtf
KenKen reviewing what his 3rd world country fans anime normally buy :v
😭
it like gambling 😂 if you lucky got good bootlegs , dont trust picture
🤣
Honestly, most normies probably don't care that much, and would be happy with even the worst of those
I know it's for rare for you to buy prize figures but I would like to see one like of miku or steins gate I remember you saying you would buy love is war , the quintessential quintuplets are cute too but you don't have just an idea
wathching this hurts my heart so much
you could donate them to a thrift store! im sure some broke teens would love to have them lol
Ngl some of those bootlegs do look amazing and passable like that Yui Kotogawa
Or most definitely my standards is just trash
I have the yukino original and bootleg one. use the bootleg one to put on my car dashboard cause its cheaper.
wouldnt want original one get sun damage now do we.
Oh no it's worst than we thought..... He's buying bootlegs!!!!???
😈

Does bootlegs are premium bootlegs they are all aceptable and some of them great, in mi contry you will cry of how bad the bootlegs are at the price of the original one.

Also please don't mind my obligatory "Woooo~ Land waste"
No Ken

Honestly I don't really mind the St Louis one, I already spend way too much on plastic crack so a goofy looking waifu at an affordable price doesn't sound too bad
dont hate me but i buy a bunch of bootlegs cuz im not trying to drain my bank account on anime figs lol, but when i do im always careful about which ones i buy so ill look at reviews for them etc so i know which ones dont have pieces that will fall off or break off easily
pog another azur lane fig to buy
🤣
Yes you are right most of bootleg are garbage, but some rare, very rare case are amazing in cost/quality, personally i have a Ganyu from genshin impact that is better of most of my prize figure ( bootleg of 1/7 Boufuuchuu no Kamihikouki), and a Eris from Mushoku Tensei that is pretty decent ( bootleg of 1/8 Kotobukiya).
