Can grazing management increase soil carbon?

This video describes findings from an extensive literature review on the impacts of grazing and farm management on soil carbon. The webinar includes:
1. Plausible pathways towards net zero emissions through grazing management
2. Effects of grazing intensity (stocking rate) and frequency (spelling or rest periods) on soil carbon (most studies reviewed did not find an effect of these factors on soil carbon)
3. Impacts of grazing on plant growth, ground cover, herbage mass, plant persistence
4. Practices that may improve soil carbon in principle (reduced erosion, degradation, improve legume content, alter botanical composition, improve water infiltration and growth, changing from annual cropping to pastures)
5. Typical gains in soil carbon that may be expected with the practice changes or crop functional groups

Good question. Short answer is "many". The ability to move animals, the number of paddocks a farmer has, the number of animals she/he can invest in etc. Socio-economic factors drive much of the results realised on farm - but the focus of the study tends to determine variables that are reported versus those that are assumed consistent across all treatments.
