The hood ornament on Wayne Carini's MG at 7:08 is a 1920 Corning "Goddess of Smoke". These were originally the centerpiece of an ashtray but they had threads that fit radiators so many were converted to be hood ornaments. Very nice touch.

Great video Richard. I really enjoyed it! Most Porsche 908s were spyders. They were used at circuits like the Targa Florio and Nurburgring because they handled better than the 917s and power wasn't so important. I think many Porsche drivers much preferred the 908 to the 917 as they were a lot more driveable. Beautiful cars.

    Wonderful video, Richard
That 1936 SS Jaguar 100 appeared at The Elegance at Hershey in 2017. The remarkable thing about the unique bodywork on this car is that, aside from being stunningly beautiful, virtually nothing is known about the company that built it. I believe it has a body tag with the company's name and that it was made England, but beyond that no records survive. Clearly the makers had world-class talent and must have worked at other firms, and for their identities to just vanish into history like that is hard to fathom.

Fabulous video, thanks for posting. Sitting over here on a dreary cold day in the south of England, it's great to be able to look around this superb event which I'm very unlikely to ever get to in person. Doing a walk-round like this really conveys some of the atmosphere, and it's great to see so many British cars in the various classes. Wonderful stuff, please keep it up, and many thanks again!

PS: the Ecurie Ecosse D-type does not seem to me to have a wide angle head, there would be more space between the head bolts and the cam cover I believe (I won't comment on the 3 Spanish Weber carbs...).

You certainly know your cars, quite impressive.
Plus you accurately picked best in show!
I was there today & while it had a nice selection of cars it’s definitely missing the leadership and polish of Bill Warner.
    The announcing was rough.
I had to laugh a bit when they introduced the judges from a printed list.
I observed in person (at past Amelia Concours) Mr. Warner introducing the judges by himself in front of them without a list. By memory. And he added an anecdote about each as well.
End of the old era I suppose.
Guess I should be happy that the event itself will continue.
Thanks for your efforts of bringing the cars to those who could not attend.

But a small correction, if I may:
The wheel-items that you referred to as "Hubcaps" are, in fact, properly called "Nave Plates".
Hub caps keep the grease in the hubs. The XK that you filmed has visible hub caps.

    • @uliwehner
      @uliwehner Год назад

never even heard the term "nave plate". seems to be a UK only term? here in the US we have hubcaps and dustcaps to keep the dirt out of the bearings. hubcaps are decorative in nature.
