    I been using 304B for about 6yrs, earlier this year I gave in and bought a FX6. I really wished I would've kept my $. Great filter but my 304B worked just as well.

    I completely understand your logic. I have owned both. When I first started in the hobby, I went with the Sunsun. You are right. It is easier to replace the entire canister than it was to fix or clean whatever issue I had with the canister. I eventually bought a FX6. At the price point I bought the FX6 for, it actually forced me to become a better fish keeper. I was more cognizant of the care I gave to the FX6 because it did cost so much more. I keep the propeller cleaner, I empty the filter more often, I actually lube the o-ring, etc. Or maybe I was just a lazy/bad fish keeper in the beginning??? I really do like the self start and the purge valve on the FX6.

      So the FX6 made you do more work than when you had your Sunsun? If the FX6 provides better/ healthier water condition for your fish than the Sunsun, then great.

    I have a 304B on my 40 gallon tank and i can honestly say that my tank has never been so clear, it replaced two aqua clear 50 hob filters and i had an issue with a tank full of mountain dew like water, the uv cleared it up in 5 days and now it is great. no noise, no issues priming, no issues at all. great filter.

    I see your logic. I am still set on the fx 6. The flu all is a really nice filter, self prime, automatic air purge, quite.
    For a budget the sun sun. For ease of use, reliability and lots of flow I like the fx 6!

    The first canister I bought was about 3 months ago and it was an Eheim Pro 2076 E series, set it up correctly, seemed to be doing great, the next morning my basement was flooded because water poured out through the where the lid and main body join together. I didn’t lose my fish, there was about 8 inches of water left in my 125 at the time. I bought a SunSun HW-704b and it’s been running like a champ. Bought the SunSun 304b yesterday for my 75 that I haven’t yet set up because I’m currently moving, but it has the same gph as the 704b and also rated for up to 150 gallon tanks for a little less money... I’m a SunSun believer!

    It's been a year now since i posted the comment and have upgraded to a 75 gallon tank and switched the 304B to the bigger tank and still love it, I have a 450 Pro HOB that I have been trying on my 40 and don't like it that much the biggest issue is with the intake tube and the motor cover, one being too loose and falling off and when the motor cover comes off it takes almost putting it in a vise to get it back together. I think I will stick with the 304B, not an issue in over a year.

    Currently run 2 x 304s on my 350 litre tropical planted tank set up 8 years now. Here's a few random experience/thoughts... (1) garage has 3 faulty canister heads all because of UV light failure (2) mine leak after maintenance 20% of time (3) keep working pumps in bucket (4) have plenty PTFE tape for O ring sealing (5) use mechanical pre filter so don't open canister too often (6) use silicone lube for impeller (7) plastic is cheap so handle carefully (8) it is quiet (9) UV light burns out plastic media trays (10) parts cheap from China but order ahead due to delivery time.
    Overall rating: 7 out of 10 (despite all the problems listed above)

    Hi Dan, I have a 304-b on a pretty good stocked 55, it came with a used 90 tank I bought, I find it to work great. think the fx-6 is alot of hype.. One thing you should consider is the booster, it has 3 sponges course, med course and fine. water runs thru the booster first to catch the crud. I open that to clean the sponges about every 2 weeks. the 304 only has media in all the trays. I only have to open the 304 about every 6 months just to shake off the media.

    • @wyzemann
      @wyzemann 5 лет назад +1

      I've seen those peculiar little pre-filters all over the place. They have no pump, instead, they utilize the main canister’s pump to pull water/waste through both containers. Yes, segregating mech filtration in such a way is an absolute no brainer👍🏾! The best part is that it can be used with any brand canister filter.

  • @aquablaster86
    @aquablaster86 5 лет назад +16

    I would never pay 300+ for a filter, cant blame ya there. However the FX4 is more then enough filter for any of my tanks. Add to that i got the fx4 for $169 last year on sale and the price gap closes. If i had to buy canisters for as many tanks as you have I would definitely have a few sun suns in the fish room. I honestly don't see why so many people take thing's so personally. The filter you choose has ZERO impact on me and vice versa. If you are enjoying this hobby thats all that matter's!!

    I have had a sunsun 603, 304b and still running a 704b. The reason I do not have the 603 and 304 running is because I took down the tanks. The 704b has been running for about 6 years with the only problem I have had was it leaking until I found out I had to put silicon on the o-ring. I bought a fluval before going on vacation when the 704b started leaking which turned out to be a joke. My experience is the sunsun is way more filter than the fluval!

  • @aquariumhacksbymarcus5653

    SO true! FILTERS are filters. The only thing I LOOK AT IS LONGEVITY and RELIABILITY b/c of that reason I GO with Eheim classic filters LAST FOREVER (many many years) cost more than sunsun but less than fluval FX series I had an fx 5 i paid at that time 250$ for it years ago and no is not worth the money it did what filter should do but i also owned sunsun for a lot cheaper it also did what a filter should do.The BIG difference was I COULD HAVE bought 2 sunsun for less and had both sides filter out! I WILL say the FX is powerful enough to filter out large tanks by itself. Great video.

But the sunsun has far more room for biological filtration. The fluval has far more mechanical filtration. It's a choice. I actually love them both. The fluval has possibly too much flow for some fish. I keep all kinds. I wouldn't put the fluval with small fish.

      I need to inform you that foam, especially 30ppi foam in the FX6 outperforms any ceramics, pebbles, plastic balls and actually is the best performer at biofiltration of all the static media in comparison tests. If you clean it every month it will just work as mechanical filtration, but let it do its thing and after 2 months it outcompetes everything.

    You call it as it is! 100% agree! The only issue for some, possibly, would be the water bypassing the mechanical filtering media. I have Fluval, Cascade, SunSun and Marineland canister filters. The only one that I believe solves this issue is the Marineland C series, I have a C220 in one of my 40 breeder. They accomplish that with the rubber seals they place in the tubes drawing water down the filter and the bottom tray that forces water up. Thumbs up!

    The FX is larger by a decent margin so if you had a bigger tank or heavily stocked but didnt want a sump the FX is a good option.

  • @erwintorsy6573

    Nice video, Filters filters, every canister filter works the same and if the filter size is correct for your tank it don't matter they all do the same thing pumping water trough sponge and biomedia.
    Fluval are nice but people are to focus on flowrate output, lower flow means better biological cleaning but higher flowrate means better mechanical cleaning and nice for fish who likes some current in the tank.
    Most fish keepers have a community tank and fish who don't like strong flow like Angels and so on but put big canisters on it whit high flowrate what is not needed and also a planted tank need no high flow through the fish tank.
    Cheaper canisters works fine like SunSun less flowrate in most cases but cost 50% cheaper and do the same mechanical/biological and also chemical if you ad carbon if you want, why spend 2 times more for the same is my opinion while they do the same.
    Wifi,and electronic regulated pumps lol, why you start the filter and it's running for 2-4month's need no Wifi for that to prime or when to clean a filter also flowrate can be adjusted whit a watercrane between the hose or it's already on the canister to adjust the flow a little for to much current in your tank.
    I use Eheim canisters, not cheap also but i will never buy the ones whit Wifi or other electronic junk on it, pump has to pump water trough a canister nothing more and every extra electronic what is added make it sensitive to fail faster in long terms and cost more to replace !
    So my opinion, keep fish keeping simple you don't need al that electronic junk on a fish tank, most fish don't need huge canisters on a 125gallon only when you ad fish that need some current.
    Got 125gallon whit 10 aduld Discus for 5 years now whit only one Eheim Professional-4 600 whit only 320gallons a hour ! and planted.. ques what i got almost the whole Discus community after me because they say it is to little filtration lol. sure not good substrate Sand at the bottem and planted you don't need a huge filter system you already got so much substrate in your tank and plants that ammonia is fast converted to Nitrite to nitrate.
    Bigger filters is not alway better it depend on tank setup, plantes yes or not and substrate on the bottem yes or not, breeder yes or not and overstock tank yes or not.. so many parameters which filter is right for your tank.
    Also on my 90gallon got 10 Angels also planted,driftwood and sand as substrate and one canister and same filter Eheim Professional-4 600 whit 320gallons a hour works fine no to much current in the tank because Angels don't like current they live in side arms of the Amazone river where water is mostly standing still ans shallow whit lo'ts of plants and wood for hiding an hunting on insect's and small fish so here is already reason for not having to big filter whit high flowrate so a cheaper SunSun filter will also work just fine !

However the FX6 has almost twice the cycle of the SunSun and superior mechanical filtration and super efficient internal flow with plenty of room for biological media upgrades. The build quality, and accessories are superior in every way to the SunSun. If you like the SunSun that's great but if you look beyond the price and actually look at what can be achieved with a 'high end' canister filter you may feel differently. I agree the fluval is too expensive but it's not so expensive as to make me want to buy a SunSun. The 2260 at even more money is so much better again than the fx6 but the fx6 seems to have found it's place in the market as the go to quality fit and forget canister which to be fair it does really well. 👍if SunSun can copy properly the lid lock system of the fluval fx6 rather than looking like the 407 and redesign a larger internal media capacity with a properly capable pump, they would be onto a winner.
