The talkers used to intimidate me. Made me feel like the industry was way more difficult to get into than I thought or made me feel inferior. Didn't understand they were just talking to feel like they were in the industry. I'm doing the work, seem to be on track and most importantly, immensely enjoying composing and learning how to sound better and better.

Good word. Again, the audio in the car is superior. Easy to listen to. More!

Thanks for the reminder Jesse! While it's good to keep stay educated enough to intelligently navigate the paths and crossroads we encounter, it's essential for us Producers make sure we focus on actually "producing"! Especially in licensing based income, where quantity is essential for the long game.
Your video sound quality was just fine for me using my studio headphones via my desktop browser.

This one hit close to home. I don't research the industry info... but I can drop weeks on gear, plugins and tutorials. I'll learn 10 people's composing process, how to use every Waves plugin and every new piece of gear posted on Sweetwater to avoid actually trying to create some music. Procrastination is becoming an addiction if not a mental illness in my studio.

Be kind to yourself. At least you can see where you need to make the change. That's HUGE!

DUDE...I live in Los Angeles....there's a Starbucks in Studio City where there are always the same rotating crew of guys talking...talking...talking about the biz...and I wondered if they ever got any work done...or if they even intended to...and yeah... it was really nice to hear you absolutely nail the description of it. I've seen this kind of thing for so many years. Unfortunately, I had a publishing offer on the table years ago from a small, well-funded group that were basically doing the same thing...they were too busy redecorating the studio and doing I don't know what...rather than being about the business of developing writers and getting work done. Playing 'house'. Oh well! It's cool, it all worked out. :)

Let your work speak for yourself. Some of the history's greatest composers were lone wolfs that kept to themselves, were quiet and just relentlessly worked their craft - John Williams, the greatest living composer, comes to mind for one.

I feel like I'm a talker, but I work too. Hmm, I should work more. Set goals and complete them. I crash and burned during Sync 60, two times now. I suck. My fault. Love and peace Jesse.

Nailed it! You could have been a psychologist. Producers are called producers because they produce not just because they can surrounded with equipment to produce with looking the part.

I'm glad you made this video. I'm not much of a talker and that often leaves me feeling less intelligent in conversations about the music biz. When really I'm not less intelligent and I'm a hard worker. 👍🐊👍🐊

This idea is discussed in a book I read recently - "motion" vs. "action". Motion is a very dangerous thing, as it can give the impression to ourselves as well as to others that we're "doing something", when in fact we're not. Under "motion" we can count things such as research, studying, talking to people, building rapport with others etc. Action, on the other hand, is the actual writing, stemming, and admin work. CRUCIAL that we differentiate between these two, and knowing that only one of them will make us better musicians.

I know full well I have fallen into the more talk less work category previously but that was more about fear I think. Some days are easier than others but through that now I feel.

Dig the new logo 🙌🏾 I've also been reviewing the low - risk reward loop. So dangerous cos it's hard to see that it's not actually progress

Hi Jessie, love the content as always!
If I may suggest an idea for a video, could you maybe discuss when in the process and how to bring up and negotiate upfront fees/advances when you approach a new library? It would be really helpful to have your insights on that. Thanks for your time!

BOOM! Great message! Put your blinders on and write! Stop looking for excuses. Get your sub-par 30-50 tracks over with and learn from them. After that you’ll be sailing!

Reminds me of people who join a band just so they can say they're in a band. My first album is nearly ready to pitch, thanks for the quality info and inspiration.

I cannot talk about it I know nothing about it but I love to hear the owner of trailer house talk about how impossible to be a trailer composer because it is to competitive and you have to belong to the (house team ) I live in a small town in Canada and this was a wake up call but I do it for fun but would love to make a little doa doa hahaha

    • @SyncMyMusic
      @SyncMyMusic  3 года назад +2

I would agree that the Trailer business is VERY tough and competitive, but of course not impossible. Don't let the opinions of others direct your destiny 👍

@@SyncMyMusic Another important message is that re-scoring a trailer is not the way to go to get your talent notice.. They won't cues ... which is about 2m50s long ..Title it with the emotion that you want them to perceived
