Hey Ross! First things first, congratulations on your score! This format of competitions seems amazing and scary but I can only imagine how important it is for professionals and right mindset when you compete. This episode was simply lovely. So many strong climbers! Two weeks ago I was competing in my first bouldering competitions (it was two groups: Relax which was mine and Pro). I wanted to thank you for all your tips, especially for all slab tips. I was able to do 4 out of 5 slab boulders and with every attempt I just felt progress :) And I was able to do moves on pro problems as well, even when pro competitors couldn't do them! Thank you very much man!
I was really looking forward to actually seeing the full climbs, not just a cut-out montage of fancy slow-motion moves. I think Emil's competition videos are great, he shows each problem and gives a voice-over insight into what he was thinking/trying. In the current format, I have no idea what your score is, whether are you close to winning or not, did you finish a climb or not, or who's the competition... The editing and the camera work are great, don't get me wrong, it's just a personal preference for storytelling. Kinda similar to how IFSC started uploading only highlights from competitions rather than full climbs.
I'm glad people are experimenting with formats. Bouldering is HUGE at the moment but remains a really shit spectator sport. We need more fun events to create excitement! (As well as more competent orgs to handle organizing and filming, looking at you IFSC)
It's funny the moment I saw this was a flash comp, I thought, "This is just how Ross trains. He's going to crush!" Especially all the mental training! But also that you don't just do a boulder and move on. You'll redo the same boulder differently over and over seeing which way(s) work best for you. That had to have paid off in the comp.
@@Ross-Fulkerson I have to admit I made this comment before watching the whole vid, as I wanted it to be a prediction. But then you essentially said the same thing in the commentary after the comp. Doh. I am curious though that you said the risky way is always the easiest. But would you actually do the riskiest way in a flash comp? I don't think I'd have the guts to take that chance as I'd be kicking myself in the butt if I blew it. I guess it would depend on how much harder the other way was and which I felt had the greater chance of success.
Hey Ross! ABsolutely LOVED watching you at the COMP! I actually just broke my back on one of those Problems :/ (Like actually got surgery on my T12 Vertabrae a week after the comp :/) Anyway keep up the great Carlo tennis moments!
Seriously one of the best climbing channels out there. Massive psych!
Really appreciate it!
10:10 the left wall is staring into my soul
This is not one of the best climbing channels out there...This is one of THE best channels out there in any field. Period.
🙏😮💨
Great stuff! colour grading and edit on point!

Currently editing another comp edit like that! Psyched to include a voice over with more in-depth thought about each boulder

Thanks man! Always fun to put the training to use under more pressure.
