They were very accurate with the personalities and actions they do in the show compared with the game
Yeah, it looks like a good jod.
I agree. I know the second season will flush out the important and the unimportant characters with their actions and speak
Shit!
I hope season 2 they show king dice more
Its like a alternate univer
I really hope the show utilizes more of the bosses in the later seasons.

The only issue I have with this show is Elder Kettle’s characterization, he seems a lot less caring and wise than he was implied to be in the game
I would say he's a bit more stricter. Then again, I would too if my kid used a Cannon to paint the fence

They made a few changes in the show but kept it mostly true to the game, nice.
Well ofcourse, some characters are meant to do that, it's their character trait, (like the onion, the frogs, etc.) they were bound to do it at some time.
No they didn't.
why is the potato sad
@@hoffer_moment I agree with this, im grabbing my popcorn for people who ARE nitpicking the show, and would prefer watch it go down
My only problem with the show at the moment is the disservice they did to the devil's character.
Wait what? They actually made chalice in the show a ghost?! Holy crap!
She’s always been one
She only grew legs for the DLC that’s coming out soon
And she "ghosted" them.
Maybe its like a power(?
I’ve seen you in the comments before
The frogs hitting each other is so freaking funny for some reason
Ye i agree
Yep them hitting each other like that is a fun dynamic
Probably my favorite episode so far
They remind me of cuphead and mugmans dynamic as well as they argue alot despite being brothers and i rlly like that
SO WHAT IF I AM
Tbh I really don't understand why people got disappointed with this show,I watched 50s cartoons all my life, they did an amazing job replicating the feeling, especially with the way they talk
@John Doe what story? Its literally just two brothers who gambled their souls and lost
@John Doe cuphead barely has lore
Bruh cuphead dosent even have complex lore and the episodic writing gives old cartoon vibes imo
The show kinda doesn’t capture the look the game was going for, kinda like it looks like a cheap attempt at emulating the look, and that misses the point of what cuphead is supposed to be, a love letter to 1930s era animation.
(I edited this comment to correct my mistake, I previously stated it was 1950s animation, which was incorrect)
they emulated the visuals from cuphead sucessfuly, but not at all the feel of old cartoons. The show feels like another modern unfunny slapstick, just with good designs, which are mostly taken from the game. I feel that after cuphead, fans expected an endearing revival of that old mickey mouse cartoon style, but it was still pretty unrealistic to expect any studio to attempt something so out of their confort zone.
The cuphead show is so good, it actually really reminds me of the modern mickey mouse cartoons but with some darker elements thrown in. Honestly not something I may have expected, but I honestly really love it.
My fav episode was the skii ball. You loose and the devil takes the soul. I am shocked how well the animation is like the video game. I am annoyed the mugman and cupheads voicing but overall amazing.
I compare it to an 1990s animaniacs episode down in the 1930s/40s. Its a fun little show. I personally enjoy the opening theme the most.
I say this is better than the "Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse" cartoons. At least the artstyle is more in line with where the game took inspiration from, compared to the Mickey Mouse ones where instead of reusing design aspects from the original shorts, they looked exaggerated and unpolished.
@@robbiewalker2831 I did watch the Cuphead show and I so agree with the modern Mickey shorts since it doesnt feel so super exaggerated to the point where the grossout humor jokes kept popping in (not to mention, what got me annoyed about the current Mickey Mouse shorts is one of them had Mickey lick a Dwarf, which was Bashful the dwarf! D:
I mean the director of the Cuphead show worked as well on this mickey mouse show so your comparison is clever 😁
What about the time where Cuphead looked under the table then it was a direct comparison to where he crouched in the game? I think it was in the baby episode.

Extra musical note: Rigby and Croaks and the Root Pack also have their theme songs ripped straight out of their game stages.
The former's play when they start chasing Cuphead and Mugman across the riverboat and the latter plays a lot during the Root Pack's party
Not so much ripped straight out. It indeed uses portions of their themes from the game, but it’s remixed a little to fit the theme of it being a cartoon rather than a video game

Even if the animation is a bit more modern and flash-esque in the show, it still captured the feeling of old cartoons very well. What they did is still remarkable.
Good luck trying to find enough animators who can do Rubber animation. Those cartoons were 5-10 minutes max back in the day and weren't in seasons.

@@jaygay6576 with a game sure, cuphead had plenty of years to get that art down, but i doubt the people that are complaining about that wanted a show that would look like this. the alternative to them is nothing
Honestly I love how they had the whole,”The main of the duo is brave, headstrong, not the smartest but is sometimes quick witted while the other one is scared, is the smarter one, isn’t as brave as their partner but can be” plus having so many of those old troupes in cartoons such as an item that brings you so and so but it doesn’t actually and it was all in their head, stuff like that, fits so perfect with this show, it reminds me of what it’s supposed to, the old Disney shorts with some Popeye mixed into it, wish they had more of it already

The show is great and does a good job at capturing the game aspects but I think people need to remember that this show is trying to show more of the actual characteristics of the characters and is likely an alternative timeline since they can't replicate the whole game lol.
As long as the original lore of the game isnt affected or erased from the memories of those who played the games, Im safe since I actually like the Cuphead lore in game (I still need to play the game btw).
Cause there is that DLC that is coming out and I dont want the lore of the games to be affected (we can now scratch that fear since Adventures of Sonic, Donkey Kong Country and such didnt follow the games as shows either, but it did pay tribute to the source material right).

To the people complaining about the animation, older 50s cartoons were done using cel block animation, which is incredibly tedious and also extremely expensive. Modern cartoons don’t have that same budget anymore, but the fact that most of the animation is hand drawn anyway is incredibly generous.
yeah it still looks REALLY good
Also the fact that most movies that use rubber hose animation back then are only 5 to 10 min max and even that is very tedious, how are people expecting not just a movie but an entire series to be animated with a expensive and tedious process?

They didnt want to many characters in one season. Whenever that happens it makes the show seem all over the place. Thats why alot of shows introduce new characters with certain plots that revolve around the personality and characteristics. Ontop of that it allows more free time for the show episode themes.
I would have loved to see the dragons head turn into a flamethrower in the show too, i always thought it was a great joke
Its bound to happen. From what I read, we are getting three more seasons, so it is possible that we will see the dragon and her abilities more.

Thats why i love it so much.
I'll be honest, I really wasn't expecting this show's animation to look as good as the game, but it really does while still having it's own unique flair. It's like the visual style of Fleischer and the humour of Spongebob had a baby and it's great.
I really was surprised to enjoy the show, I just hope in the second season we could see them fight the bosses like the game. I would of loved to see an animated version of the gameplay!
It'd be nice to see the bosses eventually all bet with the devil, and lose their souls. Then have Cuphead bargain the deal where if he collects their souls for him he can be free, similar to the game.
I would love to see some action scenes in this retro cartoon style.
It is very possible. We are getting three more seasons out of this, so it is possible for them to show up and do that with Cuphead having to deal with them in order to get the Devil off his back about his soul.
You forgot when in the Ghost Chase Scene, The Ghost from Phantom Express actually appears
Also on the right side of that exact moment the ghost rats that the German Rat's Mech Cat sends out appear too
I dont care about people's disappointment the show is amazing
The show seems more like an over-exaggerated stereotype of old cartoons, while the game looks more authentic and legitimate.

1:24 how many time will people need to realize, THAT'S ISN'T THE SAME PEOPLE
The game has a far superior style. This show looks more like SpongeBob than Max Fleischer
The show is a riot. Honestly. It's fun from a fan stand point and it has the kind of meshed feel of SpongeBob and Ren&Stimpy. It makes me want a Bendy spin off show.
Bendy nailed the old 50 feelings
The game actually looks and sounds like an old timey cartoon from the good ole days, the show however looks too modern.
Edit: I never said the show was bad, in fact from the clips I've seen it looks like a blast and the VA had a great time voicing it. I'm simply saying the game has a stronger connection to it's theme of a 1930's cartoon. This is a comparison video after all.
Budget issues
Everything, from the music, to the backgrounds to the use of stop motion looks extremely 1930's, except for the character animation. Not to say it's bad, far from it, but I do understand some people's disappointment.
Well, it took them like 7 years to meticulously animate the style in the game, to be fair.
They did this in two. Still alot of fun moments.
I enjoyed every moment of it. I still have to beat the devil in the game.
Wow they made the game look just like the show. That's really impressive.
Nice joke
I love the changes to Chalice because in the game it seem like she would be a damsel or something a princess now she like a trickster using her charms and I love that idea
I do wish that they hadn’t made it for kids, but they did an amazing job with the show! Props to the team that put so much effort into it
What would a more adult version of Cuphead look like? Old cartoons were generally an all-ages deal, so I can't imagine Cuphead going a different direction.
@@aconcernedindividual297 same art style, but cigars included and they don’t get rid of the casino that it all started in within the game lol. That's the truth. Didn't they use handrawn graphics for the game or did I imagine that somewhere?
@@kit_callie Yes they did. That’s why the game took so long to make.
Awesome video but I think you missed a few. In the amusement park there were a couple rides that looked like beppi the clown’s stage. In the last episode with the gum ball machine was the one from Baroness Von Bon Bon’s stage and king dice’s dance seemed to be similar to the one that he does at the dice house. The cops were the bees from rumor honeybottom’s stage These are a bit of a stretch but in the first episode when they went into the fun house it looked similar to a run and gun. In the intro when they say they get the heebie jebbies it looks like the last stage from goopy le grande And the cards that were playing on king dice’s show also looked like they were a reference to king dice’s stage also in the sweater episode when the devil was trying to convince cuphead to take off the sweater the 8 ball was in the background from king dice’s stage as well. There might be more but that’s all I can think of at the moment. Have a good day :3
Also when Ms Chalice was in the Cinema we could see the Domino character that was one of King Dice's boss stage

@@samon8129 Yeah, it does
Is nobody gonna talk ahout how they died 894 times?

I know they did really good
I really loved this show and all of its technical aspects. The only actual technical difference between the game and show is the game was hand animated(there is shakiness between lines that show its all human unnoticed to most) but the show is perfectly rounded.
Now it doesn’t take away from the quality of the show and the reason is that it would be much more expensive to animate a show like that. Seeing as cuphead has multiple seasons this is more convient long term.
However the show has done an absolutely amazing job of replicating this old school style with the digital tools available. The characters look laid on top of the backgrounds(generally a negative for modern animation but accurate old portrayal). There are scratches and dust in between panels similar to how it would have been in a showroom due to the way animation used to be recorded(one frame photographed then replaced with another frame).
Overall this show is amazing 9/10 from me.

You sayin' it's MY FAULT?!
SO WHAT IF I AM?
Death ensues*
I really like how some of them look in the show compared to the game
One thing that kind of peaked my interest about the Cuphead show is that in the episode that we see Grimm matchstick we see that the egg and the baby dragon belong to Grimm matchstick. And once I was done with the episode I started thinking, and then I said out loud “Grimm matchstick was a woman?!“
I mean, for what we know that Could be the case or he's just the Dad and the mother was somewhere away and left Grimm matchstick take care of the baby while she was gone, both of these seem plausible until we learn which one is the correct one
It could be possible. There are many girl names that could also be used by guys. Heck, Grimm could be shorthand for a longer, female name.
@@firetoacat yeah
So, there’s one other thing I found. In the game Devil’s pupil shapes into a cup being cut up before the battle starts and in the show in the intro of each episide it has the scene where devil’s pupil turns into the shape of cuphead and mugman. I love the little reference but no one seems to show it in comparisons.
I do wish they wouldve kept the flamethrower head on the dragon when it spit fire or the original elder kettle model, apart from that, I really liked the show’s representation of the cuphead characters
People don't realize how much time it would take to redo the same design of the an add it to the show it took so long for the game to come out. That long I have no issues of the show they put time an effort into each of the characters and design.
The new show is great, but I kinda wish someone can make an edit where they make add a static effect to the audio/video of the show to make it like an old cartoon more. I think it'll be interesting
I'm actually impressed they made this ,and also to the point its so on point ,whilst the game also just being about being hard as he'll bosses ,well done ,I'd never of thought you could make a series out of it because the games just a pure game ,hard as hell, there is a story but it's very fluff
I’m really disappointed the animation in the show is more choppy and akin to the modern styles of today, rather than the fluid animation of way back when. I know it’s possible the show had a specific budget so I can’t blame them for going the route they did- it still looks good. Perhaps one day we’ll get a smoother, remastered look…
The show was funny asf 😂😂 ngl I’m finna watch the season over again it was that coo I like it and can’t wait for season 2
*Somehow the video game nails the look of a 1930's cartoon more than the Netflix show. The show just looks like Adobe Flash Animation, no matter which way you filter it.*
The reason the game nails the look is because it was done with hand-drawn animation. It also took 7 years to make! As awesome as a fully hand-drawn show would be, it's just not feasible in this modern day. Imagine having to wait 2 years for every new episode 🤪

Obviously the game looks more 1930's and the animation in game is better than the one in the show but I can understand because the old traditional hand drawn animation would have taken a lot of money and time from them. I mean, it took 7 years for MDHR studio to make the game
Exactly. Rubberhose animation is essentially medieval torture in animation
I’m just saying…
They *better* have Cagney carnation as soon as another season gets out
Why would you make a show based on vintage cartoons without going the whole mile and actually making it look like a vintage cartoon? Am I missing something here?
The game nailed the artstyle perfectly, I don't understand how they messed up something so fundamental with the show lmao.
Traditional hand drawn takes a lot of time. Plus it would be a slog to get through and could effect the quality of the jokes because of timing.
unfortunately, doing it all on paper is extremely time consuming and expensive. digital software has made animation way cheaper and faster, but you have to sacrifice a bit of the liveliness to do so. Its like the difference between choosing to animate on 12 fps vs 24 fps vs 60 fps. Yes going higher rates will look better, but not 10x the money better.

Tbh the show had too much hype. I don't like it because they dropped the casino for "Carnevil" and they don't collect any souls which was the whole plot of the game
That's because this is the First season it's more like a preview season2 will hopefully bring in the game.
@@Charlotte226 It's obvious that the casino idea was dropped because why else would they have "Carnevil"
I mean the show isn't really supposed to follow the plot of the game, it just takes the world and characters from the game and turns it into episodes
It’s a kid’s show. Two children going on a murderous rampage because they lost at blackjack or some shit seems a bit… much. The Carnevil workaround is super clever, and the lack of the boss rush setup allows for more natural inclusions of the game’s characters.
