Totally felt for this Seiko. Wasn’t sure it would fit my 17 cm wrist. Ordered it right after your video. You‘re doing a great job with your high quality vids, thanks and subscribed!
Got this SBP239. No regrets. Great for pool swimming and sea snorkeling. It person it has a lot of "pop", especially the bezel. The color way on a black waffle strap really matches the minimalist tones and Zen like feel of Japanese black and gold lacquer.
Loved how you described it. For me the color way is so charming and the dial has the best contrast in the whole line up. Speaking of “pop” I took it to a business meeting and the guy kept looking at it trying to find out what watch is this 😅. The original nato is my future wife favorite.
😅😅 They haven’t swapped the order. I like it and got used to it now. I bought the bracelet but keeping it mostly on the dark brown nato. She is a keeper.
After to-ing and fro-ing for weeks, watching this video again finally got me to pull the trigger on this watch. I love the blend between BB58-esque vintage warmth, and the Japanese quirk of the gorgeous NATO. Plus the lack of chapter ring means less chance of alignment issues, which is a must at this price point. Thanks for finally helping me make the choice, and being part of my watch journey!
You are welcome 😇😍 I still have it and It is still a personal favorite for the exact reasons you described. I appreciate the nato strap it came with even more now.
I've been umming and aaring over buying this watch but after watching this video I immediately ordered one, so thank you. I also feel a bit weird in that this will be my first Seiko, and actually only my 2nd automatic watch. Looking forward to seeing your review of the Willard.
@@thepickyreviewer quick update. Received the watch and love it, but noticed at midday the hour hand is not lined up with the minute hand on 12. The hour hand actually lags behind a bit. Have you come across this particular issue on yours? I did notice some people online complaining about the same on with the SPB143.
@@drmanhattan225 That’s unfortunate. It can be easily fixed. However I recommend to go to the shop you bought it from to address the issue and get a replacement. If you bought it online send to the seller and attach pictures showing the problem.
Great review. I also felt the SPB147 dial just doesn't quite work for me. The 239 dial with the gilt looks great to me. I will be picking one up as a graduation present to myself later in the year.
@@El-AYE-Ra1s3d You made me go and check it again now 😅 and I realized that the dial color is very close to the nato strap color. It is a very dark brown. Depending on the lighting it can look brown or black.
@@El-AYE-Ra1s3d I bought it for the same reason. The SPB143 was grey. I wanted more of black so I got the SPB239 for that. In sunlight it’s not black. In low light it is black. Again check the dial section I. This video for better representation 😊
@@thepickyreviewer Not where I live it doesn't. I have a 147 on my wrist and the hands and indices are gilt with a mocha Brown dial. The 143 has the silver/grey dial and is sold on a bracelet.
You didn’t go too far to comparing a Seiko to a Rolex. Realistically there’s really not much difference between a steel sub and a 62mas reissue. At the very least not $9-$10k difference. Sad.
there is a big difference, i.e. the SLA043 does not have dust under the saphire like a Rolex Sub.... :), and is assembled by humans not robots, which is what I like.
I think you did an excellent review. Highly professional. I already own the spb147 & spb213, and love them both! But you're making me contemplate picking up another (•‿•)
Ima just get the San Martin 62 MAS for equal if not better finishing quality, quality control (never ever had a misaligned bezel, while other people that have spent 1,000+ on current Seikos haven't been as lucky) specs, and materials. This Seiko is definitely over priced and considering this is a reissued design, they can't claim r&d costs. They've just been ripping off their customer base lately. I used to be a seiko fan boy but they value for cost proposition is not there. Out of the name brand, I'd choose Citizen and Casio nowadays over buying Seiko at the budget level and would choose the Swiss brands at the above 750 mark.
This is true. They moved themselves from being budget friendly. I believe it’s the movement that makes it more expensive. I would accept 4R35 myself for better pricing as I don’t care about the power reserve. I chose the SPB239 mainly for the dial color. Check momods @instagram for budget friendly beaters.
Any of the sla models. I have the sla043 and it's superior to this . But it should be too, for the price. At around 1k though this is a great diver for the money . No other famous watch manufacturers can offer any thing superior for 1k.

The Seiko 40.5mm looks the same size with 39mm Steinhardt. Do you fill the same on the wrist?
The Steinhart 39 wears smaller on the wrist. I prefer watches with more presence.
