It's amazing what making RUclips videos does for you. In 2017 I walked into my local BMW dealer to test ride a S1000RR...only to be asked "How Much Are You Spending?". Wasn't even offered a ride. Rang my local HONDA dealer and asked to test ride their Fireblade SP...response ?.
Honda " No problem Sir,just bring your licence and you can take it out for as long as you like".

Have to admit Kate you had me doing that grimace/clenched teeth when you were hopping about on it at the dealer. But as a 6’4” unit that has already dropped his tiger 1200 and a Vstrom through pure inexperience I think it’s pretty evident it’s down to more talent and confidence than being a short stop or a long shanks. I think you’ve owned it here. Great video.

Great video Kate! I found you with your first BMW 1300GS video. THE best overview of the bike and well ahead of the world. TY. I relate to your thoughts of not being able to ride a "Dad" bike. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should - exactly. But it has left us vertically challenged folks to either riding with a hip off the bike and taking the risk, or sitting in a bucket and not being able to ride the bike as it should be ridden. Today - I am a very happy camper! I just picked up a Triple Black 1300 and it is the first time I've ridden a GS and a bike like this where I am riding it as it should be ridden. The bike is amazing and the adjustable seat height and auto suspension is a game changer. Not just because of the height on the stop, but because of how I am able to sit on the bike, center of gravity, suspension without manually changing, and knowing when I stop I can put my foot down without a lot of risk and torqing my hips, back, body. Just because we can - also means when we do - we throw our body off by compensating.
IYKYK. Thank you Kate for all your reviews, your courage and your common sense :) Keep riding strong and Youtubing.

Hi Kate, I have a 29" inside leg like you and have a shortie tip for you. With the bike on it's sidestand put the steering on full right hand lock before you try to take it off it's stand (push on the left hand bar, pull on the right hand one). This has 2 benefits:
1 it lowers the seat height
2 It makes getting the bike upright easier as the front wheel is pointing in the same direction that you're going to move the top of the bike towards.
If you think I'm having you on try it, it works!

    • @UsernameKate
      @UsernameKate  5 месяцев назад

It works for me to a point. Not so much the super tall stuff in my own xp of course!

Standard for dirt/enduro bikes. Helps you get on (side stand up) with all the kit that doesn’t bend (boots and knee braces)

    • @m2menuiserie540
      @m2menuiserie540 5 месяцев назад +1

Good tip. I always do this. A third benefit is that one is widening the space through which one is mounting the bike, especially handy if you've got a top box/luggage on the pillion seat. Fourth benefit is that as you get on you're pulling the bike backwards via the RH handlebar so it's not going to want to roll off the sidestand.

I love the GS! I have the lowered 1250 and can just about reach the ground (27” inside leg, so you’ve got 2” on me!) I have test ridden the 1300 with adaptive suspension and just need to work out the finance. Hubby already has his full size one! I was doing my IAM Masters and I got marked down for not taking the bike out of gear when stationery. I explained to the examiner that I had to look at the camber of the road and pick ONE foot to put down. He said he had never thought of this and gave me my point back! Keep up the good work, I love girls on big bikes!

You have the skills, experience, and confidence in those skills and experience, to ride that bike. Simple really. I'm a Tall bloke who has never had to ride a bike that is allegedly "too tall" for me, so I've never had to build those skills. You mention it has taken some time to build your skills with bigger bikes, even moving them in the dealership. That's the key, for example, if you haven't the experience/skill to ride a 200hp bike, don't ride it, if you do, go ahead. Same with size/weight of the bike really.
Ride within your own ability, and gradually increase the limits of those abilities. I suspect the naysayers are people who never work to improve themselves. Respect to you for always wanting to move onwards and upwards.

I flippin loved that video. The intro was really good - much better with a straight cut to your music and shots from you setting the scene.
I think you’ve tackled a subject that’s on a lot of new (or maybe shorter) riders minds. When I first drove a 750GS doing my DAS, I was apprehensive stepping up from my Husky 125. I’m 5’9” so not short but definitely not tall and once I was used to it , I was fine.
I’ve now passed my test and ordered a 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro which is 880mm seat height and can be adjusted to 860.
When I took the demonstrator out a week ago I had the seat in the lower position and it was superb.
Your video’s got me thinking whether I should eventually ride mine in the 880mm setting.
I’ll definitely give it a go.
    Great video again 👌🤙💥

Great Video again Kate🙌. That’s a nice bike, and you do well showing people that someone that’s vertically challenged can ride taller motorcycles. A friend of mine works at the dealership where I bought my Africa Twin and she’s built kinda like you are, maybe a wee bit shorter even and she rides an Africa Twin standard model with no trouble. She and yourself could outride a good number of the men, myself included. You guys just keep on doing what you’re doing! As far as your dad telling you to spec a new bike for him is something I would not hesitate to tell my daughter also❤. I just love it!🤘

Well done for riding that bike and not limiting yourself. Many years ago I visited my cousin and her husband had a 1200GS in the garage. I sat on it and could not believe the size of it. They said take it for a spin but I was too scared and got off. It was unthinkable .. Many years later I came to Eng, eventually got my licence and went straight to BMW off road skills and got on an 800GS for a level 1. Somehow survived it. And on the second day got a chance on that bike, the old air cooled 1200GS that scared me to death and rode it off road..Loved it so much, I booked myself in for the Brecon Beacons adv a month or so later...It's been the story of my life when it comes to thinking what I can and can't do. But I've learned that more often than not I can do it. Even if I will never have much confidence in general. But yeah, no doubt many more people can ride this bike or any other bike. Take care.

I hate loud pipes. I had a look at a 1300 and sat on one. When I picked up the bits and pieces to service my 1200. Looks like a really nice bike.
My1200 has 60,000 miles on it. It's free and clear. A shiny new one would put me debt for quite a while. It was pissing down, they offered a test ride another day. I didn't go back JIK i bought one. 😀 The hard bit would be sorting out all the options. My 1200 is an excusive so it had everything going back in the day except the TFT. I don't use most of it. I put it in road 3 years ago. The suspension just does its thing. I like my comfort, Heated grips are great, I'll never by a bike without them again. The windshield on the new Trophy. Looks very small compared to my 1200. I like the wind protection. I take my 1200 of road, drop it get covered in mud. My bikes fine, My crash bars are all scraped. Dropping a 10g bike in the dirt, v Dropping a 20g bike in the dirt. Not so much. I might by a used one down the road. When I can afford it. It won't be a Tramontana.
A base 1300 has most everything my 1200 exclusive has.

You're a brave girl! The good thing about the GS is the low centre of gravity due to the flat two-cylinder boxer engine. I had a Yamaha Ténéré 700 a few years ago, and it's a great bike, but it's way too top-heavy in my opinion. Couple the top-heavy weight with very soft suspension, and go past about 15 degrees at a standstill and the bike was hitting the deck! You really had to think about where you were stopping; things like the road camber, etc. In some situations the Ténéré could be scary, like the time I put my foot in a pothole on a very badly sunken 'W' shaped road in the rush hour, and I'm a tall rider! 😬
I sold it in the end and went back to a sports bike, and don't have to give a second thought about where I stop on the road. I'm now looking for another bike, but I've still not made my mind up. One thing is certain, I'll be buying second hand as the prices for new bikes are getting ridiculous, you can buy a really decent second-hand car for the same price! The new sports crossover bikes interest me a lot, bikes like the new Suzuki GSX-S1000GX with about 50mm more suspension for our bad roads and for carrying luggage, I'm just waiting for the prices to come down. 👍

My local dealer hasn’t received their 1300’s yet. I’m very much looking forward to getting my butt on the seat.
For me, a committed GSA rider/owner, I am wondering how the design language of the adventure will change. I hope they don’t sacrifice the visual utilitarian ruggedness from the 1200/1250 GSA. From a technical and electronic standpoint, I’m pretty sure that the 1300 is superior to the predecessors. Worth the upgrade on the price tag, tho 🤔

I was riding down a steep hill, and saw a view that I thought would be a good picture, so I did a u turn, came back up the road, did another u turn, had to dab my foot, but...the road wasn't where I expected it to be, because of the decline. Down I went, like an idiot.

@@rlw85GFV is a “guess” on what the bike will be worth after the PCP agreement ends. If it is too low in your opinion, it means you will be financing a larger chunk (MSRP - GFV). If GFV is high…that is good for you, as it means your financing costs will be less during the agreement. At the end of the agreement, if the bike is worth more than MGV - pay the last payment and sell it private. If it’s worth less, just hand it back.

The new 1300 looks ace, I'm still wobbling around on my 2007 1200gs and I've only got stumpy legs too 😂
It makes it a bit worse as I've lost nearly 18 stone since December 22 and now I don't compress the suspension quite the same 😂
One of those that lower a bit when you stop sounds ace but I just don't use the bikes enough to justify buying one, even if I did have that much spare cash.
To be fair I still prefer my 1999 Kawasaki zx9 over the BMW but my knackered knee stops me riding it much now 😕
Still love the channel, I've been a subscriber since I chatted with you at Preston Harley which was a while ago 😊
    Take care 👍👍👍

I’m 5 9, 31 inch inside leg and I consider an 850mm seat height my maximum. I did also take the R1300gs trophy out for a test ride (I have a tiger 1200 gt explorer), I have to say I didn’t notice the height difference. If I put my seat onto its highest setting (875mm), I find it very uncomfortable. But I didn’t feel that the bmw was that tall. Perhaps it’s the narrow seat. It’s a great bike though, although I personally prefer the tiger.

The only reason why you shouldn't ride a tall bike as a short person is if you don't have appropriate skills. I have an 30 inch inseam and right a 2021 GSA, not lowered, daily. You get comfortable with the techniques to the point that you don't even think about it. Once the bike is rolling it doesn't care. It's the part where you stop that you have to be concerned about. There are a handful of techniques to master and you're good to go.

I'm 5'6" with a 29 inside leg so know exactly how us shorties are affected by a bikes seat height, I've got a 2023 Street triple RS, which has an 836mm seat height (10mm higher than the previous model) but luckily Triumph offer a low seat , they claim its 28mm lower but in reality it's only about 15 to 20mm lower but nevertheless is a big help as with the standard 836mm seat I'm literally right on my tiptoes, I've had a test ride on the GS1300 with the auto ride height lowering and I loved it as the previous model was just too tall for me.

The BMW boxer twin that'd suit me best would be a 1300R when it appears. I'd have it with heated grips, and, if they offer it, a heated seat but no other options, with the possible exception of a flyscreen. I wonder if Ricky Tang will get one, following on from the unfortunate outcome with his R1250 being written off.

Your brave ;-) Is it only me, or are there any one else that think the design is straight off the Honda NC 750X? At first I thought it looked butt ugly, but after seeing it in the flesh, I ordered one ;-) Trophy, enduro, electric screen, forged enduro wheels, auto height, main stand, luggage plate. I'm probably older than usernamedad, and only 5ft6, and trading in an R1250GS, the auto height is a plus. Normally the height is not a problem, but when the D-ESA in its infinte wisdom, adjusts the height, and you're not aware of it when you come to a standstill, it can be a suprise ;-)

Oh dear, oh dear Kate. Sorry but I can’t agree with that resale argument. The first years from new the value loss from depreciation is so high that it goes much further then anything else. This is akin to the eternal “You need to have enough debt to keep the taxman away”-argument people like to use. The simple truth is that for real “consumerist” junkies yesterdays model is never good enough. Avoiding that is the other half of good financial sensibility / management.
Just saying though. You are not the only person who “cannot lie”. 😘

@@UsernameKate It’s a sales instrument. But can the argument be proved when looking at the total ownership costs? Dealership exchange convenience is another thing people tend to loose money on. Let’s be honest: No dealer would go to the trouble when there was no extra profit in it. I am however talking about the total bill at the end of ownership.
