You know, I think the story of Xim has another purpose... Beyond the Han Solo book, because it shows something... Before the rise of the republic, the galaxy was at war. These civilizations fresh from enslavement by the Rakata lashed out at each other. And one of the few groups tha was actually able to stand against the Rakata, the Je'daii/Jedi was powerful enough to do something about it when the galaxy was like this. Yet, the enduring popularity of these stories shows people are nostalgic for those "wild west" days of the early galaxy, the Jedi and the republic exist contrary to this romanticized ideal of those ancient times. And I think that helps contextualize the criminal underworld of star wars, as well as contextualize the persistant cultural trend of fighting back against the jedi as an authority. To put it simply... Xim shows that people in the galaxy are persistently unsatisfied with the modern world, and they yearn for more.
