The Empire as portrayed in Andor isn’t as invasive as in the other works, but that’s exactly why it’s so scary. It’s what scares Luthen into action. A lot of people and characters look at the Empire and think “well they’re not so bad I guess”, and this allows them to expand their control in little mundane increments. By the time it reaches a level of control comparable to 1984, it will be too late. That’s why Luthen provokes them. He wants them to show the Galaxy their true nature before they achieve absolute power, so that the people realize exactly what kind of monster they have running the government and the institutions, and that it must be fought and brought down whatever the cost, now that they still have a chance. The Empire in Andor is scary because it’s evil at the start is mundane. Subtle enough that normal people will let it pass by without a glance, and before you realize, it’s already taken over all aspects of your life.

Only thing is most of the empires "oppression" happened in the outer rim, the region which revokted during the clone wars. Just like how the union occupied the confederacy in the american civil war the empire occupied former seperatist space.
And people didnt support it because "its not so bad". Fact is dictatorship is much more convenient for most people than democracy. Best example would again be the empire: under the republic most of the galaxy was lawless, which is what happens when society only values personal liberty (we see this very well with gun and drug violence in the united states). After Palpatine declared the new order and implemented the tarkin doctrine crime and piracy was crushed with, as tarkin would say, "one swift stroke".
People dont just oppose a system because it allegedly is tyrannical. They oppose a system because they are the ones who loose out in the current status quo. And most "dystopian" societies generally enjoy mass support because the majority usually benefits from them.

Quite a decent essay. You missed a crucial trick, though, not analyzing Andor's prison arc, and how it placed the previously more generic fascism firmly in the domain of current American practice. It means that Nemik wasn't speaking to just anybody, he was speaking to _you_!
I really miss those days when fascist dystopias were mere fiction and not a pressing global concern. Then again, in "those days" I probably just didn't notice. Nemik was speaking to me too.

There always were people speaking against fascism and the rise of human atomization as far back as the formation of the League of the Just, maybe even the Jacobins themselves.
We are under a barrage of propaganda, though. So getting to Nemiks message and being in a state of accepting it as a valid warning takes time, effort, and the right experiences.

@@leonamvonborowsky7559 fascism and human atomization? Do you even know what fascism is or do you just call anything political that you dont like fascist?
There was no noteworthy atomization in nazi germany, which was due to the fact that most people were fanatically devoted towards hitler and his ideas. However it was very much present in the soviet union, mainly because most peoole didnt really care about the economic theories of karl marx.
Also ingsoc is not purely or even primarily fascist. Its a blend of nazism and bolshevism. Its a trap set up by orwell: if you call it fascist then you are probably left-wing, if you call it communist then you are probably right-wing.

Well I'd argue that there is in fact a religion in 1984
Because the twist is, the party doesn't need power to do something with it, they need it just for the sake of it. The party's members maintain power because they believe that this power must exist. They kinda worship power as their ultimate god, they even have a quote "God is power". I think there is a lot in common between them and some religious cults

Uprated. 7.5/10 - I assume 3rd year university level humanities course. Additional analysis needed in relation to the 3 selected titles with modern American fascism, not just historical fascism as detailed by others. You mention 1984 is a possible future fascism; it's mostly here already. For example, modern American fascism is much more slickly compelling and clever than depicted in fiction. Since the major policies don't change between Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden, we have an inverted totalitarianism (coined by Sheldon Wolin) where there is no Mussolini figure, but a faceless managed Democracy, LLC. Keep everything; add 3-4 mins more of comparative analysis before submission, if possible.
Also, just want to point out the ironic meme that your final project on Fascism is for Humanities 322 class, and Order 322 is The Brotherhood of Death (Skull & Bones), which George W. Bush was a member. He signed into law The Patriot Act (spy on all of us, limit freedoms) after 9/11 and embarked us on what's now known as "endless wars" (we've always been at war with Eastasia), which is a topic of your project. :)

@@TheVomcharTV If you want to push the envelope in this field of study in your 4th year, you can perhaps weave into a project or thesis that in Andor, the people of Ferix consider the Empire as the terrorists and the Empire considers the Ferix rebels as terrorists. Similarly, the Taliban consider the NATO armies as terrorists and vice versa.
The Taliban 1.0 were (backward?) highly theocratic autocracy that ruled the people with an iron fist. Then the Empire invaded Afghanistan for resource extraction and military colonialization, and the Taliban were pushed into the wind. 20 year struggle later, we now have Taliban 2.0, who successfully defeated the Empire and brought order back to Afghanistan from the totally corrupted puppet Empire vassal government. The fight is not over as the Empire continues to sponsor terrorist factions in Afghanistan (ISISK) to attempt to destabilize the new Taliban regime.
What is life like on liberated Ferix under Taliban 2.0 control? Luckily, you can see for yourself due to the brave vloggers who have gone there since Aug 2022 (a year after the Taliban victory). Doesn't look like the picture our Empire MSM is telling us... quite the opposite, really.

Bush I just happened to have United States declare war on Iraq having had a resume that included all the countries in Iraq, facing lower numbers in the midterm polls, and with the remarks of the US ambassador to Iraq on record being something along the lines of "we have no opinion on your dispute with Kuwait." Even Reagan while campaigning spoke with Khomeini to delay the release of the hostages to make himself more competitive. Tangentially, if USA is totalitarian, then Europe and China are basically the Hitler Plus subscription.

What's that RUclips? You want me to critique someone's class project just because I watched a few lore videos? Oh well...
    >1984 (best thesis)
Ah, George Orwell's (aka Eric Blair's) most famous work. While I don't think it is best story by any stretch, it does contain a fairly great criticism of what USSR, USA, and PRC were offering to the table... as much as someone who had his ideals crushed with Republican Spain anyway.
    >Star Wars (best story source)
My general feelings towards Star Wars are fairly... mixed. But nonetheless it is the only of the three of these of which I can generally have ever considered myself a fan of. However I don't think Star Wars is the right story for forming a [serious] political thesis around, given that main reason why Galactic Empire is evil is because it is run by "literally Satan"/"outright worse than Satan". As for Andor in particular... idk, I prefer KOTOR anyway.
    >Handmaid's Tale (worst of the three)
Ah yes, a story inspired by the events of Islamic Revolution in Iran; because American Evangelicals are totally like Shia Iranians, a statement that was hopefully easy to read as a blatant sarcastic one by someone who is an outsider equally to both nations: me. But nevermind that parallel, I'm more curious as to how the hell did some random cult take power over United Fucking States. Why did no other religious group, no shadow government, no foreign power, nor straight-up gigachad warlord (if fertility really is that low, shouldn't we have Fist of Northstar type of scenario on our hands?) try to at the very least take a piece of that pie, let alone stop them? Oh yeah, and we somehow don't have a war in Canada.
So in essence 95% of problems of your video stems from including the outright non scientific and merely dystopian work, as well as the political (and very unsubtle) implications surrounding it. In all honesty I find it hilarious that you had to show Orange man and Capitol Jan 6 thing, because you are such free-thinking American individual!.. not. Fine, I'll say something that you can brag to your teacher about: you can become a prominent political commentator given a Sinophile with "Death to America[n State]" watched your video to the end, and I'd rather sing praises to Saddam Hussein and IEA than say anything positive about state of civics in the land of Great Satan.
