This is superior poetry. My mind is so blown because of the practical simplicity of this poem. Thank you both so much for your contributions to the community. My mind is so blown.
I was a Sifu Sergio student and i gained a digree with him in IWKA, he's one of the best and purest Sifus you can find in the WC world. He dedicated his life to Wing Chun and he's a great man, full of knowledge. He explained some techniques using me as his "partner" while he was explaining and when he sticks on you he can really push you and move you everywhere. I had to quit IWKA because the academy in my town closed. My best dream would be joining IWKA again some day and study the whole system from Sifu Sergio. IWKA changed my life as a martial artist and as a man, and i'm very thankful for it.
This guy is a true student of martial. He finds the best of the systems and uses it. That is how a strong lineage begins. I Would love to train with him. I don't know how much patience he has.
What a realist and a true historian. Being a Wing Tsun student myself, I started my historical journey because of Leung Ting’s amazing book ROOTS OF WING TSUN. Since then I’ve wanted to quit my training many times. I’ve met many wing chuners, Sifus, etc... and a lot of naysayers. I’ve learned from all of them. We can agree to disagree as long as we can all be friends in the end. Much love to you and Sergio! Thanks y’all!! Cheers. ☺️❤️🙏
I always enjoy watching and learning from Sifu Sergio video. I hope there is a part 2 to this video. Would like to hear and know more. Lots of people don't realize how much knowledge he is actually giving here and his other interview with you. I hope to someday meet you both. Thank you for all you do Martial Man and Sifu Sergio
@@THEMARTIALMAN Nice video, I like the discussion in relation to Tai Chi. Bruce Lee also learned Wu style I think and I don't if he learned it from ip man, and the scientific approach is also in Wu style, and Wu style has it's canons like the poem. Wu also I believe has a grappling focus. Is it possible these two, Wu and ip man styles should be combined? Here's another question on this subject, when or why did Wu style and ip man style separate? I think Tai Chi in general was designed for traveling taoist monks wearing winter clothes and fifty pound back packs. The test, take a BJJ or Wing Chun expert and pit him against multiple opponents wearing winter clothes and a fifty pound back pack and watch him move in Tai Chi style. Ip Man Wing Chun is in Hong Kong, allies and boats and no back pack but with the same principals. So, if the wing man is not in allys or boats, what does he need to return to? Wu Tai Chi and wherever the man is he has both Wu and ip man style to draw from.
I did 12 years of WT. I actually just joined Sifu Sergios school in Luton UK. I wish I could train with him directly. The knowledge is really advanced.
Watch the second part of my exclusive video interview with Sifu Sergio Iadarola, discussing the 'Kam Na' locking techniques and the internal energy needed in order to effectively use the locks in application now on my website. themartialman.com/sifu-sergio-revisited-2018-kam-na-locking-techniques/
In my opinion this is where the true essense of martial arts is, people these days are quick to dismiss a more traditional asian martial art and say that is does not work in comparison to a modern mixed martial art but someone that has learned true traditiinal martial arts is not likely to throw themselves into a competition sport and only fights when it is just and there is a need for it. I also find that modern martial arts is pretty easy to pick up in comparison with traditional martial arts and like Sergio said about the internal, people are not feeling this enough and the older forms have become like a "chinese whisper" or a paraphrase of what it should be, with each teacher trying to replicate what their personal teacher taught them, they are not passing on the information correctly and we stop progressing and getting better but instead we only have the basic information compared to the real techniques. I love to see martial arts being understood like this and hope that I can one day have a chance to learn, build and become as good as this.
It’s really interesting to watch as I used to study chow gar tong long and he’s movements are very similar to how my Sifu was, even when he describes the pressure of the grinding arm! Very impressive
In defense of those of us seeing other arts. I did 7 star mantis for 10-12 years. But then I crossed arms with a skilled neijia practitioner and found myself with my structure broken in the middle of several fast, powerful traps. I have trained neijia arts ever since because I hadn't experienced that kind of power other than in neijia arts - until I watched the clips of the 2019 martial camp that Mizner put on. There I saw two WC (you being one of them) and a 5 ancestor practitioner with these same neijia skills.
Your skill has obviously improved and this is why Sergio respects you more, which resulted in an excellent interview! After watching this video Sergio has gained my respect.
I enjoyed listening to your opinions Sifu Sergio I would agree with what you have observed. For me Wing Chun yes can be done in a hard and soft way but the creation ultimately is an internal method. I feel you are saying the same thing. You mentioned Tsui Sheung Tin as the only IP Man student doing the internal. Yes and no. A good comparison is my old Sifu Victor kan for example both excellent dedicated students of GM IP Man from the early 1950`s period. Due to their personal differences they both perform Wing Chun differently even though they were taught by the same teacher. The Wing Chun system as you mentioned is based on concepts and principles than just forms shapes and technical fighting skills so one can explore their individual character expression too. It`s the most natural and flexible system. I use it all the time from Skiing to playing Golf to any DIY jobs. Not all Wing Chun is the same as you mentioned it comes down to the teacher and the individuals ability.
Great point about specific structures (Sifu uses the example of bong sau) and teachers correcting positions so the student ends up confused! The first half of this video is basically a long way of saying "don't lift your shoulders!" The development of chi sau bit is really interesting & valuable, thank you! THE MARTIAL MAN hello I just was introduced to ur channel through a student of me , I like it very much ! If you are one time in Taiwan you are welcome to visit me . This shows that you can apply in a controlled degree in international combat sport tournaments. And so on ... m.facebook.com/monkeyfistdoor/ Best regards
Hi Martial Man. I enjoyed this episode especially. However there is something I'd like to bring to your attention, which I'm sure you're already aware of, But this needs to be suggested again. This also goes to Sifu Sergio. With regards to clarifying The true meaning of Internal, which you've both done portrayed exceptionally well, and with Adam Mizner as well. The Things that Just keeps coming up again and again for me, is Why Do we want make something Internal? For too many people, this way really Just seems like a different and Maybe unique way, I don't think They actually see It as a Superior way or better than ordinary external Martial Arts or MMA or whatever. A lot of These guys Just see this as some other yoga thing that is added for Whatever reason, I really doubt, and in fact I know to a certain degree that they still Do not really Take It seriously enough. Honestly, The only thing that is going to set The record straight on The Internal principles once and for all, or At least leave little Room for people to make other ways aroun it, is If either Sergio or Adam Mizner go on The Joe Rogan experience and clarify The Internal principles, Do a little spar/realistic demo with Hoe on his show, and set people in The right direction once and for all. Otherwise, you Can demonstrate as much as You like, But The vast MMA community will Never Take It seriously, It will Just be some other yogary thing, albiet an impressive yogary thing, But still not serious to The degree It deserves
I can think of several reasons for internal: 1) we all grow older...meaning, muscle strength alone or speed cannot be maintained...got to think smarter not harder 2) if you want to continue doing and teaching martial arts later on in life, then you have to go easier on yourself, this means economizing on movement and muscle use. the internal is a simple set of practices that help us maintain health and skill as we age 3) why is this not taught more openly? martial secrets have always been secret precisely because they were 'martial' and could be used against you. even the US military, not to mention MMA fighters, don't go around showing their opponents their favorite moves. Opponents have to study and find those out themselves preferably before the fight and prepare for them. 4) re: Rogan show: yeah, why not? the only thing worth noting in advance is that you won't get any of the secrets on that forum either. yes, these two may get somewhere unbalancing Rogan. impress him sufficiently. but the crowd that follows tai-ji and internal wing-chun may not be (are unlikely to be) the same crowd that likes MMA, so there is less incentive on the part of internal masters to go there. MMA people are competitive. most martial arts (as opposed to martial sports) actively discourage competition because of the harm that comes with 'no rule fighting'. metaphorically speaking, no ethical person, and no parent, for that matter, would willingly divulge how to make a neutron bomb to anyone, least of all their kid. as you may know, one of the early tai-ji masters even refused to teach the emperor of china, when he was called in specifically to show and teach him. when you have that degree of loyalty to a tradition, you are not about to give away the keys to your house just to please entertainment consumers. 5) giving away the keys would also be obviously stupid. it would mean that you are happy to commit business suicide...since everyone would now know what you know, they can set up shop down the corner from and you'd be out of pocket. who would be so stupid?
I don't quite agree with your interpretation of secrets. Even Rogan him self DOES get it. You talk to him about the 90 year old Judo master he pulled up as an example a while ago, you listen to the podcast "working our smarter" as they call it, etc. It's all getting closer to the internal principles, or what you are calling "secrets". Actually people have an innate or intrinsic understanding of this, which is one of the things I am drawing on here. The point of my argument. I can see several problems with discussing this at length here, we are going to run into linguistic barriers or people may get into a debate with me over the meaning of words, aside from the meaning I am referring to. I would love to make a video with you on this, since you seem to be taking my argument seriously. It would be a much better way to clarify these things.
I agree that we, meaning the martial arts society needs to help each other in the sense of supporting each others system or style Instead of bashing one another. Help each other instead of saying things like that style or system doesn't work or that technique doesn't work at all. Then again there are people who refuse to change or accept that their system or style does not need to evolve. Hope one of these days they will see the light to cross train, learn, adapt and improve their techniques or systems.
19:18 Wow, we have exactly the same thing in Tai Chi, including adding in strikes to finish the fight. I never really knew anything about Wing Chun until I saw this video, and I see so many things are alike between Tai Chi and Wing Chun.
free to do what he wants. I would hope he could be honest about what is happening with mixing of arts, would lend a lot more to credibility. But when he takes my lineage's concepts and tries to teach them and pass them off as 'general knowledge', it is very dishonest. More-so when he clearly doesn't even have a surface level understanding.
@@vucklinbadafok5430 Im not talking about Gulo Wing Chun. Im talking about the 1700 Wing Chun. Yes, there are a lot of lineages all over the world but that was also not the point. And also nobody said that Sergio invented what he is teaching. Im not quiet sure what you want to say with your response.
Thank you for the informative video. I would very much like to see a friendly training sparring exchange between Sifu Adam Mitzner and Sifu Sergio, as they are great inspirational teachers.
Sifu Adam Mizner and Sifu Sergio Iadarola will be teaching at the martial arts training camp I'm hosting in Thailand. You can find out more information regarding the camp on my website themartialman.com/intensive-martial-arts-training-camp-in-chiang-mai-thailand-january-2019/
This all tracks perfectly with what I've learned in the last year and a half or so from my sifu, Henry Moy Yee in New York. It's interesting to hear someone else articulate it differently and a bit more directly.
What exactly tracks with your VT? And btw if you're not fighting and learning how to fight with your VT you'll have a really hard time using it in a fight unless your opponent is a scrub...
Sifu Sergio is an incredible teacher. I would love to have opportunity to train underneath him. Profound set of knowledge and wisdom and sheer depth of Wing Chun with internal martial arts. hmm hmm
Fascinating video. I'm really interested in why you maintain that the shoulder joint is 'set' or in its optimum position when there is minimal abduction (i.e. the arm is closer to the anterior median line). I'm a Taiji practitioner, not a wing chun practitioner. I don't know how wing chun generates its power/solidity so I'd really appreciate any wing chun practitioners who can explain it. It looks to me like Sifu Sergio here is generally sticking to Taiji's 'peng' and brings the force of the floor to the hand through that 'peng' confluence of opened/aligned joints but his explanation of the shoulder baffles me. Why I'm so interested is that I once did pushing hands with a pretty impressive wing chun practitioner. His rooting was excellent but it was surprisingly easy to trap him at the shoulder (when we were just doing freestyle 'pushing hands' rules) because his arm was too tightly adducted (close to the anterior median line) like in this video. Surely this is a hole in my knowledge rather than in wing chun per se. Can anyone explain?
Hello martial fans! Well I have to say thanks Sergio for introducing the concept of the Wing Chun formula, as first seen in the publication Mastering Kung Fu in 2003, from the source of Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun. I can appreciate the enthusiasm for the content and the depth of it, being intimately familiar with its source, Hung Fa Yi, as passed down through generations as a family art from ancestor Hung Gun Biu. Regarding the specific content of the video I do have to say it represents an outsider understanding at best of one of the very basics taught in Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun kung fu. One concept I'll introduce is that this formula makes up what we refer to as the ten bright points - Sup Ming Dim - a structure concept integrally involved in our Siu Nim Tau level training. You can also read about that in the same book - Mastering Kung Fu, but it represents what we would more refer to as "insider understanding" of Hung Fa Yi, which by the way would also refer to and have concept and theory behind the number four that we didn't publish in that book (the reasons we didn't publish it were kind of what were referenced). I would invite Sergio and all martial fans to investigate further the Sup Ming Dim and the Wing Chun formula in action at our Hung Fa Yi website - www.hungfakwoon.com - the section with video shows this formula in execution by several individuals in our Siu Nim Tau form, which is our live embodiment of the Wing Chun formula, somewhat different but similar to some other familiar wing chun lineages. In the insider information, we find the blend of yin and yang, soft and hard, energy and structure, without the need to fill in the gaps with tai chi or any other art. Again thanks for highlighting the truth in whatever filtered version available. This formula is in our arts fundamental structure teaching. I think the Shaolin ancestors at the base of this would have wanted it out there for people to know. Peace, Dave
And again an amazing video of a great teacher sharing his deep knowledge of martial arts. It feels like your videos are the only ones on RUclips were people don´t bash against certain characteristics of a style. Instead the connection and analogy every style has gets acknowledged. Please keep up the good work! Looking forward to learn more from the fastcinating Sifus you find all over the world :D P.S.: It would be nice, if you would check out Sifu Martin Dragos!!!
The only but is that bong sao was addressed as a way to close a gate and not as a way to redirect force that crosses the center (which is how most use it).
Sifu Sérgio made a good reserch. I studied with a great but not famous Sifu in Brasil that made contact with advanced masters in the past. He had a really great domain in the aspects of energy. Many of the more experienced students could observe that his wing chun could be considered different is this level. This video of Sifu Sergio remebered his skills. I do not know if there is still something about him on Internet. His name is San Lii or Pedro Santos.
How would MMA deal with a street fight attack? No ring, attack the groin, a 2nd person comes in when they go to ground. I’m not dis’ing MMA by the way; just highlighting how we translate how we train to how we fight cannot be simply answered.
Great stuff, someone who understands what real martial art should be! I highly recommend you to interview Master Gianfranco Pace, in Italy (Sicily). He practises Chen Tai Chi, but he's gone beyond sticky hands, such as Sifu Iadarola was saying. You will be amazed by his martial art skills and hyper-powerful fah jing
Incredible.. I teach viper gung Fu, which is basically, Gary lam wing Chun mixed with jkd and snake/mantis/ dragon, principles And tactics, taking jkd back to Shaolin .
That makes sense - I saw this wing chun master in china Wan Kam Leung that does that inverted bong sao that you have just explained and I used to think - why is that bong sao upside down....???? makes sense now.... thanks
Im agree with sifu sergio so much.sifu sergio has a truely right wisdom and knowledg he is taking about a lost part of wing chun thank you so much and im gratefull to dai sifu sergio. a 6 point formula in wing chun was awsome he turned on my brain on wing chun (sorry for my ba english language) ;)
Look up Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Lineage, we are the source of this information. We first introduced this information publicly to the world in our book Mastering Kung Fu in 2003 and have been teaching this privately for many many years before that
Sifu, did you learn from Leung Ting? His Siu Nim Tau has the Kwun-sau while most other styles of Wingchun's SNT has not. This is a plus for Leung Ting and your style.

Wow! Very well explained! Thank you
Very nice instructions..both of you gentleman
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just fantastic explanations. Thank you
Excellent video, content, and explanation. Everything lines up well with my own internal knowledge and experience.
Keep up the good work!
Alex Molina thank you
Sifu Sergio is one of my favorite instructors!
Hes always got good information and just a genuinely nice person!
Exactly what Bruce Lee concept was. Respect for this sifu. 👊
19:18 Wow, we have exactly the same thing in Tai Chi, including adding in strikes to finish the fight. I never really knew anything about Wing Chun until I saw this video, and I see so many things are alike between Tai Chi and Wing Chun.
what is being shown at that point is from Tai Chi, not Wing Chun
Ahhh ok, that would explain it! XD
Yes that is Tai Chi. He is mixing up Tai Chi with Wing Chun and calls it 1700 Wing Chun. It's a good marketing concept
free to do what he wants.
Excellent video. Thank you sifu Sergio and Krygier! I understand and appreciate.
Great video. Fantastic information and demonstration from my Sifu.
Thanks for Sharing!!! Nice to See Sifu Sergio again))
You can find out more information regarding the camp on my website
themartialman.com/intensive-martial-arts-training-camp-in-chiang-mai-thailand-january-2019/
😊
Man love listening to Sifu Sergio, he takes me to another level. He is my Sifu that never has met me.
A wealth of knowledge passed on. So glad I found The Martial Man!
Awesome. You covered it all. Apply the principle and just make it work for you.
Congratulations, Sifu.
Wonderful video of Wing Chun👍
Love this interview !
Very nice explanation Sifu Sergio
Thank You very much for this! greetins from Chile.
Your interviews are the best.
Could you please interview Dr. Yang Jwing Ming about his Tai Chi Chuan system?
He's already had Yang tal chi from a couple different Sifus. I'd like to see Dr Yangs Northern Shaolin.
I highly recommend gm Chien Laing Huang to be interviewed.
Thank you Sifu . Very very accurate . Love your passion and amazing spirit .Travel gently
This is a great vídeo with a Lot of Knowlegede, Thank You very much For Sharing this, Greetings from Chile.
Wow. Well spoken. What a great sympathetic Sifu.
Very in depth and interesting lesson. I will apply some of these concepts in class. Thanks for the video.
Sifu Sergio is an incredible teacher. I would love to have opportunity to train underneath him. Profound set of knowledge and wisdom and sheer depth of Wing Chun with internal martial arts. hmm hmm
形(Xing): Form
意(Yi): Meaning
拳(Quan): Fist
Xingyiquan, interestingly enough, is considered to be one of the earliest internal style.
Sifu Sergio is probably the best wing chun teacher in Australia he has a wide variety of martial arts under his belt 👍
The way you are sharing this information. I hope you have the OK from the Sifu .
Great stuff.
Peace, Dave
Very useful video! Thank you and SiFu Sergio for your job!
Thank you for sharing!
And again an amazing video of a great teacher sharing his deep knowledge of martial arts.
It feels like your videos are the only ones on RUclips were people don´t bash against certain characteristics of a style.
Instead the connection and analogy every style has gets acknowledged.
Please keep up the good work! Looking forward to learn more from the fastcinating Sifus you find all over the world :D
P.S.: It would be nice, if you would check out Sifu Martin Dragos!!!
I love this application. How does one learn to sync the chi?
Thank you that was great!
this is high level kungfu
Fantastic! Spot on! Sifu Len Jackson, Maroon Fist Association.
Sifu Sergio is like a computer (has always been so). He can store and deliver so much data in such a short video lol.
The only but is that bong sao was addressed as a way to close a gate and not as a way to redirect force that crosses the center (which is how most use it).
I really like how this Sifu researches and explains his art.
Awesome stuff as ever from Sergio!
Great interview. I’m from Chu Shong Tin lineage.
Excellent tutorial. How would sifu Sergio deal with mma attacks?
What exactly constitutes an MMA attack?
How would MMA deal with a street fight attack? No ring, attack the groin, a 2nd person comes in when they go to ground. I’m not dis’ing MMA by the way; just highlighting how we translate how we train to how we fight cannot be simply answered.
Nice complement at the end...
Love Your Videos! the greatest.
Thank you 🙏
Not sure if I ever have the ability to learn "real Wing Chun", but I'll definitely be getting into Tai Chi after seeing this.
CountAbel why tai chi?
Because the whole "sinking the chi" stuff that we see here is usually found in Tai Chi. And because I'm already doing Wing Chun. ;)
Wing chun is very scientific and a very clever art
Great stuff, someone who understands what real martial art should be! I highly recommend you to interview Master Gianfranco Pace, in Italy (Sicily). He practises Chen Tai Chi, but he's gone beyond sticky hands, such as Sifu Iadarola was saying. You will be amazed by his martial art skills and hyper-powerful fah jing
Sifu is the best with the hands
realy exelent reserch and nice explanation
Incredible.. I teach viper gung Fu, which is basically, Gary lam wing Chun mixed with jkd and snake/mantis/ dragon, principles And tactics, taking jkd back to Shaolin .
Thanks for sharing!
This is really good
That makes sense - I saw this wing chun master in china Wan Kam Leung that does that inverted bong sao that you have just explained and I used to think - why is that bong sao upside down....???? makes sense now....
We first introduced this information publicly to the world in our book Mastering Kung Fu in 2003 and have been teaching this privately for many many years before that
Good interview
agree complete. one of this systems is wing tsun. people think that chi sao is the end.
very clear instrucstion this syeste m of wing chun . good jod sifu.
Thank you for the comment
There's more than one kind of Bong.... Also, "Bong doesn't stay..."
Open exchange of martial knowledge? Already on it! Making a dojo specifically for this
"You became better, through your tai-chi training...".... Ah, nice words, lucky Martial Man...! "It's all in the sung"!
Where can we see you guys actually spar or fight?
You can't because they don't...
At the end there - He complemented the energy advancement of his opponent.
Wow that was insightfull
Really excellent.
Sifu, did you learn from Leung Ting? His Siu Nim Tau has the Kwun-sau while most other styles of Wingchun's SNT has not. This is a plus for Leung Ting and your style.
I was surprised that you didn't show the energy following the fingertips as this is the basis of third form
The Leung Sheung Lineage of Wing Chun is also internal as well
Where is the difference between internal and external? If i say i sink and bend knees ist it internal?
Owesome . This man "sifu Sergio" is inspiring. Thank you for the this video. Best wishes. Mehran Gerami in San Diego
Greeting from Thailand, thank you for the comment.
Just wondering. Does it affect animals, weights and heavy objects on wheels?
Many thanks for these fen9menal secrets! 👊
