    First of all, thank you for invested time in all your projects. I learn a lot by looking at your videos!
    I just picked up the game and made it to Lakeburg. What I do not understand when you raise your city and re-build it is when do you do this? At the first night? Or do you wait until you have the economy for it and then raise and re-build the city?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  Месяц назад

      @pjb9143 great question. The build is pretty incremental as you have the spare gold. It's something you need to find a balance on as you go... but generally I try to build the houses and gold mine / scav camps first and then slowly fill out the rest. As for the demolition I do that all on Day #1

      @aldenpotamus  3 месяца назад +1

      @OkraneS I think it comes down to TLS being a relatively niche game to be honest. For small creators like myself there's a very fine balance at play when choosing games. With a game like TLS with a small enough following I can pretty much be "the guy" (and by doing so show up in google searches for the game etc)... on the other hand if I did the same stuff for fortnight / minecraft I'd likely disappear into the abyss of obscurity as there's just so much competition.
      For now I'm biding my time waiting for the white whale that is a high interest low competition game to come along. In the meantime I'll keep putting out the best content I can and hope for the best :) In the meantime if you have friends that play TLS and would benefit from the guides, feel free to share ;)

  • @bruhder5854
    @bruhder5854 3 месяца назад

    I usually just focus on building and upgrading houses once asap because they allow more gold to be harvested via ruins and corpses.
    Next, I build production buildings in order of 2x armor, 1x melee, 1x magic and 1x trinket. Armor is going to be used by everyone so makes sense to have more of those and it also is worth more gold generally. Once that's done I spend money on upgrading the shop to max lvl to sell stuff and make good money for upgrading equipment lvl. Higher lvl equipment dramatically increases in value, both for combat and selling and by night 5 or 6 I'll be swimming in excess gold.
    Defensively, I build walls 1 tile inside the haven so the enemies have to enter a haven tile to deal damage to the wall. Behind the walls, i place 3 ballistas with 1 space in between. That 1 space acts as a doorway for my heros to enter and exit the base for strategic advantage.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  3 месяца назад

      @bruhder5854 there's been a lot of amazing discussion over the years about production strats and they are (without question) the best way to make a wildly overkill economy which is a lot of fun :) I generally pace out my houses to always match up with what I'm looking to salvage -- aka 3 mountains = 6 workers, or 3 mountains + a 4 ruin = 10 workers... but beyond what I need for immediate salvage I like to put into gold or scav camps just because I think it yields better resources over time.
      For newer players trying to get their first wins and learn the ropes I generally discourage production as I think it's a bit of a win-more strategy because you thread a pretty narrow gap between having enough power to survive and the very heavy upfront cost of production strats. I see a lot of new players losing their runs due to greed and a massive prod econ is definitely overkill for winning.
      Most normal runs I have heroes hitting for 20+k damage on bosses on the final night without ever building a production builds... do they need to be stronger, probably not, but is it fun. YUP! :) Thanks for the comment, cheers!

    I noticed your elderlicht Produktion build only has 4 production buildings. I found swapping the Inn and the armor maker allows you to place an Alchemist left of the shop which only extends the base by 5 squares.
    I enjoy Alchemist on elderlicht as I run Bagshot omens and a fourth starting hero so having the influx of consumables early feels quite nice. And the fourth hero makes the early x attacks easier to deal with, allowing to max out production faster and get the ball rolling.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  5 месяцев назад

      @HansFleischer1000 I won't pretend that it wasn't a bit of an oversight missing one production building on Elderlicht, but I attribute it to the presence of the Seer. I think a smart play on Elderlicht (like the last run I did) is to eventually replace the Seer with another weapon shop as they have the same foot print.
      Out plan (as a community) longer term is to create more of these templates and expand the interactive guide on my website to house more options from "all the production" to more minimalist strategies. Right now there's more work to do than hands to do it, but I'm excited about what's to come!

    Instead of the jaggy thing you could put the mana well in the far left corner for Lakeburg Production. It would look a lot cleaner but that far left corner isn't a place I like to put things because of how hard the enemies hit it. But it would look cleaner.
    For Glenwald I don't find gold mines to be particularly good? I certainly wouldn't build 3 of them so for the corpse strat I'd just move that awkward mana well over into the spot occupied by gold mine #3.

    Question: what is the suggested pivot point when you destroy out of place buildings (primarily houses) in order to rebuild them in a 'proper' place in maps that need them moved?
    Too early and your econ suffers but too late and you delay the upgrades on those houses and thus getting to 12 workers

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  5 месяцев назад +1

      I generally move them when the "well placed" ones are fully upgraded. It costs the same to do a second level upgrade as move a house and upgrade it... so once I have my max level houses in the right spots and I need more workers for mountains, that's when I move the ill-placed ones. I would never have considered not making the walls on the most outside tiles of my base because of some bias of the "construction" genre where you want to maximize space ; but your builds are so much more efficient for corpses.
    Just a side question ; but can panic be a problem with all those open spaces or is it actually less panic inducing than monster hitting walls too often ? I suppose you let them arrive but heroes and balistaes kill everything before they can generate panic ?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  5 месяцев назад +2

      So glad I could open you up to some new options! There's definitely many ways to play but the smaller core base definitely has some perks.
      So generally speaking I can usually clear all the have tiles late in runs, but the value of corpse piles is so massive compared to the rewards for keeping panic low that I generally don't worry too much about the panic.

      With the current corpse rewards I think that change would just make it so there's literally no point in trying to keep panic down sadly. At the moment it's not hard to get panic and relatively difficult to keep it low.
      During stream today it was suggested that perhaps panic could increase shop prices or reduce worker efficiency, those are both interesting angles as well. Though I always prefer to sweeten the upside than punish players.

    Mana well... Well it's been a long time since i last used those... I usually kill 2 of my heros at the start to maximize exp gain on 1 hero. This not only makes them super powerful early on, it also takes away need for mana because i can just unlock perks that refill mana under a condition like mana harvester and it becomes a non issue.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  3 месяца назад

      So mana perks don't always exist as they're only 2 of them if you don't count Blood Magic... I think early game mana well as astoundingly cheap and allow you to basically free-cast on heroes. I also think that picking up Harvester over Quick Reload or other great T1 perks is really nerfing your heroes late game when you could just spend 35g to have +10 max mana and essentially unlimited mana by end game.
      @bruhder5854 I used to share your perspective favoring mana sustain over basically all other things. Harvester was S-tier on my first perk list... but since then I've realized that for 35g (basically nothing) you can buy a T1 perk which is a fantastic deal. Mana Collector on the other hand is great but it comes online quite late even with XP manipulation strategies and capped at 10 mana per turn doesn't really let you go fully ham. Overall I think I'd just say, you might want to give mana wells a chance, they're surprisingly cheap and give a lot of benefit!

      Presumably they get killed the turn they enter. It's a pretty counterintuitive thing to me, I just started playing but I'm starting to see the reasons now. It just feels kinda bad, I want a massive sprawling base with all the buildings haha.

      @Dsingis as others have mentioned... the concentration of ballista means that many of them die before i get my turn and the panic is only counted if they're still alive after my turn. With a solid set of ballista and strong heroes I'm able to clear out my haven every turn and often get S-rank with all the enemies dying inside my base.
      @balazsjakabffy2556 you're not alone, there are a lot of folks who find this way of playing less in line with the fantasy they like... and more power to you or them for playing the way that makes you happy. A solid compromise is to build your walls 1 tile in, so that the horde stacks up on the outer most haven tile. You get a bigger base and lots of corpses.
