    I’ve enjoyed pairing the tome of secrets with the perk that gives 1% opportunism for every debuff applied, using the propagate debuff for 2 AP then finishing with the lightning strike can absolutely decimate an entire horde. I am playing on low difficulties though, so just my experience. Feels nice to get +40% opportunism from a buff though

After watching this, one of the notable that you've said in this guide is that you can change the angle of the rain of arrows of shortbow by pressing F. One thing about tome debuff I used it to debuff resistances on bosses. I knew a lot less about effective builds and struggled at first with bosses. But I noticed the debuff propagates.
    So what i used to do is park hero next to boss, cast debuff and it bounces between hero and boss. Driving them into negative 150%+.
    So tome for me was a necessary staple for big bosses

    Lately I have been trying to use weapons that I don't usually pick because of the 1000 actions on the weapon unlocks and have been pleasantly surprised by a good amount of them.
    Managed to pick the accessory that recovers 14mp for an action in the first night and used with the tome and the critical runes perk keeping the mp low on purpose for a 28-32% crit chance on the perk while spamming fireball and Lightning bolt, really fun.
    And yeah the pistol feels so good, really like it as well.

  • @greenasweed8100
    @greenasweed8100 Год назад +1

    thats why i love this game, because u can play it in many ways! i make it quite different.
    for example I begin to build heroes from 4 tasks that most often arise: to kill tight horde, to kill many single targets, to kill bosses and special units, to kill low hp units. i make each hero well rounded for solving each of these tasks. for example, archer have great ability to kill tight hordes with his spells, and high crit+power shots allows him to kill fat targets even trough armor, but he's suffering in dealing with many single and wounded targets. so bow has a good sinergy with hand crossbow or wand because of their multi casting with a low damage, multi casting is also very good with crit (magic damage is also helpfull in some situations). or another example, tank with hammer and shield is extremely good in dealing with tight hordes, also he s great at exucution wounded units, and has high damage at fat single targets with armor, but his weak spot is mobility for killing single targets in some distance. in this situation could help ranged weapons like scepter (momentum and stun making great combo with hammers), pistols, even swords, and so on...
    so i usually have 4 well rounded heroes, each of them can hold 1 side of a city. this allows me not to have so many heroes, to spend less money on equipment and inn, to gain more exp, and to have better equipment overall. instead im making good economics, and building solid defences)

    The one thing where Tome of Secrets debuff is shining is against bosses (and to a lesser degree against any elite targets). When the boss is isolated (they usually are), just place one your guy close and cast weakening touch on a boss. Not only that will make the boss absolutely harmless, but it also takes his resistance to a severe negative value, usually to the min threshold of -50%. Note that it also affects your guy, but can be healed by a single health potion. Very satisfying. And with good propagation stats the lightning is very powerfull. Tome of secrets is one of my favorite veapons for guys with propagation stats and Flexibility perk.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  Год назад

      Hey art, thanks for the comment, but one thing I've heard differently on is that resistance on enemies cannot go negative. During my next run if I have time it's easy enough to test, so I'll try it out. This would be a big difference from my understanding of the mechanic and might actually make it worth something.
      I know for sure that resistance reduction on heroes can't lower enemy resist below zero, but perhaps this skill works differently? 🤔
      As for bosses that's an interesting idea, though I rarely let them hang around and hit me anyways.

This thing had several thousand HP, huge resistances and healed good chunk of it's heal bar every turn. It was practically unkillable with what I had on this flank. So, I've cleared all other enemies around it and left one of my heroes near it, while casted weakening touch on it with the other hero. On the enemy turn it blew itself for 0 dmg. The skill is niche, but quite playable.

    Im falling in love with two handed axe.I think this weapon has to much in terms of flexibility.The strongest move is actually buff thats provide you big damage boost for 2 turns for any damage type(You can just have two handed axe in second option and just use buff each turn for any bow/melee/magic weapon to create a really big hits,any aoe attack becomes just stupid one shot button with this buff).I find this weapon to be just op for any melee damage guy even its not your main weapon(You just use rage and jump arround like crazy with some skill range).On top of that it has best aoe attack in the game,its really cheap and high damage nuke which has a huge reach with jump.Sometimes i just ended with like 6 great axes on each of my hero.Utility provided by cheap jump and dmg buff is insane.My most beloved build is spear+axe with blood magic+organic+body builder combo,if you can find guy with this perks its just becomes no brain one shot machine with 1 k life.

    the one-handed axe was the first weapon to really wow me when i unlocked it and gave it a try in the early waves of the second map, however i found that it was a bit lacking when the bulkies and boomers started showing up, granted i didnt have a proper grasp of the character builds and oppertunism and havent really used it much since as ive been favoring more ranged weapons.
    the dagger is an interesting one, i dont find myself using it a lot, but i think it potentially pairs with loads of different things, i like it on a shortbow character from time to time, either setting up a bunch of isolation kills with rain of arrows, or when i have to focus my arrow fire on tankier targets, let some of the easier prey get close for a simple jab.
    i really want to like the spear, because i really like the actual abillities it has, but i find all of them lackluster for one reason or another
    i feel similairly about the rifle as i do the spear, i think i'd use it a lot more if hip shot had a 4th use, maybe even if it had it swapped for one of the rifle shot uses that cost 2AP
    before my typical line-up was very bow heavy, ive been really enjoying those, tho ive been pivoting towards a more magic centric line-up recently and have really grown to love the druid staff, very satisfying to delete wave after wave with bees.
    the wand, scepter and tome of secrets i should propably give some more attention, but i dont find them all that interesting personally, as for the orb, i adore the deathray but the cost is so prohibitive in a lot of cases.
    the powerstaff i started out disliking but like you i turned around on that one, mostly using it as a supporting secondary to the two-handed hammer, stunning an entire side of the map for 2 mana per turn is outside of wiping a wave with bees one of the most satisfying things in the game

    What you certainly know, but did not mention is that the 2H Axe Buff ability is not necessarily self-cast. Makes not a lot of intuitive sense, since the axe wielder would probably be the one berserking, but if you buff your high AoE ally like Short Bow or Tome of Secrets guys to make sure nobody survives with 12 HP is something I found noteworthy.
    I have found your content by googling some help for Lakeburg. I guess you are not meant to pass all the levels in your first go and while I got to the boss in every of my runs, I am on my 4th try now and haven't come close to beating the boss. I guess my main mistake is that I always go for the "value" level-ups (oh rare mana you say? Certainly looks more appealing than common isolation). Also I just recently learned that isolation and opportunism is NOT just for skills that have a multiplier for them (like propagation or multi-hit) -_- That probably factored in too, haha.
    Great stuff. Also I never thought about mixing weapon sets with different dmg types (even though there is a perk for that). I always thought ranged guys get ranged weapons, etc. Have to think some things over there.

    Your 2nd weapon set boots your overall stats with whatever is on those weapons right? Or do those stats only "turn on" when you switch to that weapon? For example, maybe i have a wand on my main set and then a pistol with +10% damage on my 2nd set. I believe the game shows the damage increase on your main stats, but I wasnt sure if it is actually applying that damage boost to both weapon sets?

      You are always affected by whatever modifiers your weapons have, whether or not they’re in the active set.

      Fishworshipper is correct, stats are always on which means that off hands are a great source of stats as well as capabilities.

    And what about the second set of weapons? There are 2x2 weapon slots on the character's screen.

      So each hero can have two weapon sets. Swap between them with tab. That means you can have 2 1-handers with 2 off hands, or 2 two handers.

      @@aldenpotamus Thanks! Does it cost anything to toggle? When you're saying that weapon A pairs well with weapon B, do you mean for set 1 and 2 or for main and offhand?
      PS. One suggestion for these vids - you seem to know the perks and omens very well, so you are clicking them immediatelly, so the tooltip with description gets displayed for only a brief moment. It is difficult to read it, and you need to go back and pause, but sometimes it is so fast, that it is difficult to even pause at the right moment. Maybe you can hover over the perk/omen/weapon for a second or so to let viewers see the description?

      No cost to switch and you can do it as much as you'd like.
      Good reminder, I'll try to do better about showing my choices! Thanks for the feedback as always!

    I mean, a multi-hit initiator dagger can both clear waves and kill bosses in single turns, and all you ever do is just press your 3 skill. Especially if Specialist. Game over if paired with a warp crystal.
    I also find it weird that you're so insistent on skills hitting every available square. If my 2 AP skill that hits in a plus is hitting 3 enemies, then I'm still being 1.5x more efficient than my 1 AP single target skills.
    Edit: I find the poison skill on hand crossbows great for big enemies. Just pelt them twice and you don't have to worry about the big enemy for the next 3 turns since they can't move anywhere

      Good points Sensha, I think that certain skills are just easier to utilize than others. 1.5x efficiency for a mana cost probably isn't enough to justify the spend for me. No question the poison skill on the hand crossbow is amazing for stopping a boomer or bulky till you're more equipped to deal with it.
      Thanks for the feedback, appreciate the comment!

    the raw damage of the offhand does it add to its primary weapons?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  Год назад +1

      So the offhand has it's own damage range, which is independent of the main hand, but if you have +stats (damage, crit etc) on the offhand they will also improve the main hand.

    Is the momentum counter for sword a PC only setting? I'm playing on console and it does not seem to exist.

      There's a patch for PC that isn't out yet on console, Ishtar hasn't shared when they'll be able to push that patch, but I know they're working on it! Also many of the weapon balance changes arent on console yet, just FYI! Thanks for checking Queens!

    Idk why when I ask people good weapons for poison builds, most people say druid staff... I find myself liking dagger multishot way better, since I can do both aoe and st damage... I mean, I had a guy with +4 multishots that dealt 228 poison per hit... can the druid staff do better than that?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  Год назад

      I mean I've stacked 2,000 poison on a target with bees + good contagion play I was able to share it with others... it requires both the poison and debuff trees. But I think the more "conventional" reason I love druid staff is for wave clear moreso than single target. Two casts of bees will obliterate an entire side and then a few centipedes will spread the poison to those who remain. Dagger is great for single target poisoning and then spreading those many stacks to others, but you'll never get the same level of cannon fodder decimation.
      That being said both are good and poison builds are extremely strong. Thanks for the comment Gabrielfm!

      Oh also I forgot to mention that the rather low direct damage on bees means the propagate can really go ham with bounces without fear of it cutting itself off too early and losing bounces.

    it feels so alien not to have lowered movement on quickshot or multi hit on blaze, opportunism with stacked multi hits are how i final beat lakeberg, just nuclear amounts of damage
    do you know if damage modifiers are multiplicative with one another or additive

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  Год назад

      My understanding is that they are all multiplicative, which is confirmed by a comment in the last spell wiki, and a few other comments around here.
