Time and time again I have asked these guy's if they need any money and they always say no.., way back when their stove bust I offered to buy them a new one and they said no.., they had got replacement parts from a subscriber.., that speaks volumes for the people they are.., we all enjoy the content they put out and how they always go above and beyond to immerse the viewer in their journeys.., so please please if you can become a patron for as little as $3 per video.., its not alot but it goes some way to thank them for making all our lives that much more enjoyable as they drag all our ass's around the coast of Australia.
You guys are one of the truly real sailing blogs

What a great team you are
@ b haz, and from over here in NZ, you've put into words exactly what I'm thinking. Yes Troy and Pascale, "you are the real deal." You are a great team." Take care. Atb.

Oh to be sailing again! You have done so much great work and shared so much of it with us, thank you! Now to shake it all down. Between the newly faired bottom, the new rig work, running rigging, and new sails that aren’t blown out, she must be a dream to sail! And I am not even mentioning the great comforts of that interior! That was an impressive and very complete refit! Thanks for sharing your journey, please keep it coming. Fair winds and following seas!
I love the look of the black carbon laminated sails, but man those new bright white sails with the black standing rigging and life lines... *Chefs kiss*
8 oz dacron on my boat. (HR-38)
Watching from San Francisco, thinking I want my sails made from your sailmaker! He was superb! The look on Troy's face after the first sail with Pascale's giggles as she is recording truly relates to the excitement & joy that was put into the Ol' Girl!!!
I learn more from your vlogs than from all the sailing channels put together on RUclips!!! You even flashed back to the time you wanted the third reef!!! Spectacular job, real sailing by real sailors!
Love the calmness and the thought process.
So you've. Basically made a new boat as you need and want and learnt stuff as you've gone along. Saved the environment and helped small businesses. Nothing but respect from me.
seeing troy's face when testing the sails. he loves that boat, and it is visible in that smile.
Amazing you both go from strength to strength. Looking forward to the next episode.......
love seeing the professional sailmaker at work...boat looks great underway and glad its all working better for you!
This is a great little boat and Troy continues to amaze me with his skills. And it's good to see a loft in Australia that does everything in-house instead of outsourcing the work overseas (and good to see a young apprentice learning the trade). I'm in my 70's, we used to do make everything here in Australia ourselves, absolutely everything. We were totally self sufficient, nowadays those hard earned skills and hand me down knowledge is steadily slipping away from us..
nothing beats new sails, how exciting! less baggy sails, more power/lift, less heel. add in lighter rig = magic
Awesome U2 what a great job you have done of the refit she looks brand new. I really enjoy watching your RUclips channel. You explain everything in great detail in language I can understand. Safe travels, fair winds & seas. 🖖🍻😎
Fair play you guys have done a cracking job on the old girl. Shes ready for another 50 years I reckon.
First class fit out.

The smiles after that first sail (@ 13:50) showed how much fun it was to be sailing again.
This boat is a few feet too small but they love it. They’ve been doing a complete refit for the last 6 months to a year. I really like many of the changes they’ve made. They went with synthetic rigging and soft shackles. They’ve also kept it all of the systems very simple.
Pretty sails, pretty halyards with pretty lazy jacks!
I know you're settled in now, but that must've been such an awesome moment when she set sail again. Thanks for sharing the entire process - learnt a lot from you. Much appreciated.
“We can carry sail in stronger wind now” Sounds like a good inspirational metaphor. :)
Troy's smile when the sailmaker told him he'd done a good job with his maintenance. :^)
I really appreciate the depth you go to when talking about this stuff. It's amazing how many videos there are on youtube meant to teach this stuff, yet lack any of the depth required to actually learn without actually having the equipment in front of you.
I can't even begin to count the number of times in the last 8 months since I discovered that sailing is something I am actually interested in, that I had to pause a video to google what the person was talking about and proceed to visit 10 or 15 different results just to get an idea of something that is basically a simple concept, but because the person making the video just assumed that anyone watching it already knows what they're talking about.
It's always a pleasure to watch you guys thank you for being there
There is nothing better than a new set of sails ,Marool certainly kicked up her heals , cracking it u guys ,....and I always learn something ,
Wonderful to see the old girl fly again.
Learnt a heap of stuff from this video. Much more fun than reading a text book. I really need to brush up on my knots! TY.
I can't tell you how good it is to see Marool and you both back at sea. So good also to hear Pascal laughing......David
I imagine the use of heavier rigging hardware would come into play not as you state it here as a product of vessel length, but instead more accurately as a product of vessel displacement.
Thank you for this, as always.
The best refit and mods I have seen in 40 years in the business! Elegant simplicity thru years of real experience.
Now it's time to continue the adventure

So happy for you. She looks like a new boat.
I bet these boats would sell just as good now, as they did back then. Especially with all these modern details. No useless junk, just all you need to sail safely in comfort. I'll choose one of these proven designs over modern ones any day.
Good line bending, Troy. You truly are a sailor.
Not much beats a crisp new sail
Wow 3 fingers on the tiller ...a well balanced boat!
Another fine Vid from down under. 19:55 No worry about chaffing on the lifelines?
Ventos justos e mar calmo ⛵️
Was that 28 min. long? Felt like 10. I really enjoy your forays into the nerdy side of sailing and eagerly await more of your adventures at sea. Fair winds and following seas.
I can't wait for more sailing to see how much better the new rig and sails work.
Best series of rebuilt videos I‘ve seen yet. I‘m not a Sailor yet, but will be when retired. I‘ve learned so much from your videos . Fair Winds and following seas with your „brandnew“ boat.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼Mirool's ready for more adventures!😊😊
very interesting video abouth the sailmaker - thanks Pascal and Troy
good luck from austria
Nice one guys. Some great rigging that you have developed there. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.
Great job guys love your work 🇦🇺💙
I had no idea of the complexity of making sails, that was really interesting.
Some of the carbon fibre sails are 'spun' onto a mold and set with resins. What seems simple is bordering on space age now.
Love being in a sail loft, few things better than the crinkly sound and feel of a brand new sail.
Summer is close up here on the Great Lakes, thanks for keeping me sane all winter. You guys are a class act.
Love Pascale's giggles. Super grin on Troy's face when casting off. Priceless :-)
Really interesting video! Thanks for sharing and wishing you both many safe and enjoyable Nautical mile together. Can’t wait to see you on the water again!
Rope rigging. Everything old becomes new again. My mate Steve has a short lifeline attached to the mast near it's base on his 25 ft Tophat. It has been a very welcome extra point of attachment at times.
Ok this is video number 45 of my "I want to buy a Free Range Sailing hoody" campaign
Cheers
Matt
Hey, Troy and Pascal. Amazing work on your refit. Loved seeing it all. While watching this new sails episode, the RUclips algorithm directed my attention to an episode from 2018 where you answered questions--how you met, what next, etc. You said then that you planned to sail to Tasmania and then possibly get another boat! I love that you did a refit on Mirool instead of getting another boat! Is there an episode where you discuss the decision to restore rather than replace Mirool? You also mentioned in that 2018 video the idea of sailing offshore, possibly circumnavigating and not taking the trade wind route. Interested to hear more about that. Plans after Perth? (Story about meeting at Troy's sister's wedding wasn't too detailed!)
Never understood anything about the sail making or your rigging explanations. But I'm very happy for you both with your "new" boat you both built. Big Congrats.
Right on you two. Always exciting to watch your videos, which are excellent!
Best wishes from Northern Utah, USA.
I like the button knot for my soft shackles. It's a bit more fiddly than the diamond knot, but it's also stronger and very pretty on your rig. They just look very profeaional and you don't ever have to wory about slipage. .... if you would like to know how to make a button knot, then I will be more than happy to send you a video. .... ⛵💕🌠
you guys are amazing with all the Tec and engineering all i can see that is lacking seat belts and hard hats good to go lots o love
Looking good you two. We find that baggy old sails cannot take as much wind as stiffer flatter new sails. The old ones act as a bit of a parachute and the new ones only direct the wind (except for downwind. We just put new sails on Windover and the difference is very apparent. Fair winds.
love your very informative videos thanks guys
She is a seriously beautiful, clean rigged boat. Wow.
Very Beautiful
Sooooooo much education and just great how-to‼️ love it and thanks guys. I can only dream of having this much knowledge. ✨ 💯 💕 ✨ ✌️ 🌞
I think it's cool having "ropes" vs cables it seems like a throwback to the early days of sailing where they really had to use a lot more knot tying type skills. I know the new synthetic rigging is different but I think it feels a little more authentic I guess. Maybe I'm wrong but I like the route you've gone and it's not always easy to move away from the old familiar way.
I was told by a racer that the Dacron doesn't stretch, its all the threading that stretches. He was talking about shape, says a sail is a wing and has a special shape. Like you, I know next to nothing. But, I periodically have breakfast with a competition racer.I haven't heard much about the third reef, but I have heard of "storm sails" . The main comes down completely and your going along fairly quickly with the storm sail. Your subs up to 100k, your views on this one very good, so, looks like your a hit !
Fabulous upgrade you've done. Watching them make those sail I couldn't help but think about the USS Constitution and her 42,710 square feet of sail. All sewn without benefit of modern machinery. It was originally flax but later canvas and now has modern material. But in the 18th century that had to be incredibly labor intensive.
I've watched every sailing channel on YT getting new sails... never seen the actual production of them... very cool video.
Great video, nice for you to know what you have into every part of your boat, no guessing "will that hold up?" Looks like it's going to be a great trip to where your heading, of course you already know, now for us to see.
Have a great day, be safe wherever you are!!!!
Marool is looking amazing. Saw the other Clansman in Kettering. It's jealous.
Love your redundant hear sail halyards.
You guys ...... no words. 👏🏽😎💥💯👍🏼🎉⛵️🍻
Mirool looks GREAT!
Awesome soft shackle and frictionless ring use... I will be borrowing for my cruising dinghy.
Excellent detail. We have a traditional ‘Colin Archer’ design and you’ve inspired me to seriously consider rerigging back to the old ways of dead eyes. Thanks.
Congratulations on making an excellent choice! The greatest lesson in life to learn is: “You don’t know what you don’t know”! Both of you keep up the great work and above all Stay Safe!
You two have put in a bunch of thought, planning and effort into this major refit.....plus a goodly bit of innovation! Something like this takes a lot of time and you two stuck with it while working as a well oiled machine team....you both should feel very proud of your efforts!!
Great demo on the inner forestay, many thanks.
heya nice to see the refit is almost done
you guys earned that sail congrats
Great video and I have some observations that might help - and you might be up on them anyway. But here goes.
I've had trouble with chafe with my pair of genoa halyards and I've only partially been able to fix things. The worst one relates back to my boat being built with wire halyards (main is still wire) and the wire had worn a bit of a groove into one of the pair of guides up the mast but the bozo-the-clown who owned my boat previously didn't actually do anything about that and just put up with losing one halyard. Well I smoothed both sides out but it still happens a bit (single handing from Portugal to Curacao then to Panama and the cover is significantly worn on the one I used). That means, on my upcoming Pacific crossing I will have to lower that sail at sea to switch halyards and make a repair if necessary. I can't have both connected at the same time because I couldn't make a repair without lowering anyway and I also use that spare genoa halyard for my storm jib which has a sleeve that slides up over the furled genoa.
So a couple of things I've done that might be of interest:
1) I've woven/stitched on a second piece of cover, in a contrasting colour, so I can just lower the sail a bit and assess whether the main over is showing through.
2) I bought a pair of furler pre-feeders which tail the sail pretty well for me and I cross winch the halyard winch to the drum on the top of the anchor winch so I can do this single-handed; the gear is just too heavy for me not to use a winch.
3) I also have my "weather radar" alert to calm enough weather so I can add this task to running the water maker. Just like reefing, never wait until it's essential.
A credit to you both for all the hard work you have put in
Wow, that was so interesting, never been inside a sailmakers loft before, and that 50knot wind was a tad too much although it reminded me of racing in a 32 footer on Pittwater and getting a wet bum, taught me to wear a woollen jumper when racing in the winter. New rig and sails look fabulous guys, I will be happy to hear how Mirrool goes when things get serious!!! Thanks muchly for the vid Pascale, much appreciated.
You guys are killing it!! : )
Another fantastic video, well done guys!
Wow, your sailmaker was amazing! I had no idea so much thought could go into making a professional sail.
Some day I may understand all of the rigging, but I'm 1,500 km from any salt water now, so have some time.
The rigging info is fascinating. Thanks.
Great video.
I love that boat. ♥️
Troy! Low friction rings, not frictionless! 😜😜😜
Salut vous tank you vidéo magnifique merci
All looking great for the outcome of refit project Will be interested in the tacking with running back stays on use of inner stay with 2 up sailing .great show
I love this! We still have our original main on our 73 Islander 30. I'm looking forward to getting new sails one of these days. Thanks for all of the information you two are amazing!
Safe passage xx
Putting all this faith in the new style rigging I hope it all works the best for you guys, that would be awesome to see you cranking across the water under sail again!!
That was great. Thanks guys.
I was hoping the new sails would be black in keeping with Mirrool's new theme, white works however. Beautiful too. Hank on staysail - YES. Extra knots - YES. Looking forward to seeing some adventuring you two wizards - fair winds
Awesome guys! Just so nice to see a DIYer take on such a huge project! Well done!
Outstanding.
Beautiful job
Really interesting seeing the insides of a sail loft. The Sailing Frenchman did a good vid on taking his liferaft for a service which showed why it costs so much!! Mirool is looking so good, all freshly painted, new rig and new sails.... All that hard work is showing!!
Woo Hoo!! You're sailing!!! I felt a rush!!! No more fast-forwarding through the video (cause I don't want to click away and make you look bad to RUclips), but I really don't want to watch boatwork. Love your channel. Thanks for being AWESOME!
You guys are great
What a beauty. She looks better than new!
That was a really great documentary film explaining and showing sailmaking. I really like the clarity of your explanations.
Marool looks brand new !!!
