- I Had a guy message me and told me he had a wrecked GSXR-1000, he wanted to get rid of it to make the wife happy so I went to check it out and we made a deal and it was significantly cheaper than a bike from COPART but the bike was badly wrecked. In this video I stripped it down and started repairing it and got it to run!

Ya, that's how online auctions work usually. I'm assuming this was bought online. Funny enough, there are people who make their living by doing nothing but examining auction items for people

excellent job man, but here in Brazil due to the value of the dollar in relation to the local currency, a job like this would cost a very high amount, it would be unviable.

Its the same here and in the US tbh. That bike will NEVER be worth the time spent on rebuilding it. The salvage title will kill the value.
Its a fun project and a good way to get a nice bike if you have the skills and time but not the cash but making a profit is unlikely.
@@jediknight1294 This isnt a salvage title though, but even with salvage titled stuff there’s room to make money you just can’t offer anywhere near as much for the actual vehicle in the first place.
@@Benjamminoutdoors I'm surprised, that level of damage would be a Cat D not economic to repair write off that can be sold back/let go at auction and put back on the road or a Cat C which is essentially the same in my neck of the woods (UK) and the frame damage MIGHT put it into the cat B not to he returned to the road where its destined to be a track bike.
Cat A parts only would be unlikely being dented rather than a cracked frame.
I'm really really surprised that with the dented frame, the subframe being busted and the 1500 of plastics needing to be replaced it wasn't costed into salvage.
@@jediknight1294 it was not taken to an insurance company that is why, the personal owner wrecked it and didn’t report it, this most definitely would’ve been totaled if an insurance company got a hold of it.

@@mallvin2000 he isn't teaching you very well as the steering nut (big nut in the centre of upper triple tree) should be tightened before the upper pinch bolts on the top yoke.

And it’s definitely risky, if this frame turns out to be bent that’s a $2000-3000 frame So it could set me back a whole lot more so you definitely wanna know what you’re getting into when you’re purchasing a bike just do your research figure out what all the parts cost and factor in unexpected/miscellaneous costs so you’re not in the negative.

I really like this type of video, because that way I learn even more about how to get to repair a motorcycle, currently I cannot buy a new or second-hand motorcycle and when I see this type of video I could go a damaged one and fix it, that's why I like it This type of video I hope the next video will arrive soon, I die of old age saldudos from Veracruz Mexico.

A lot of work is this bike. I just got 05 zx10r I'm rebuilding. 28 thousand miles on her. Hopefully she will last a while longer

I rebuilt an 87 GSXR1100, but I was young and stupid. I would never do that again. You cannot rebuild a bike designed to go 160 mph and think you are smart.

I wish we had a space for this stuff in India, but there are already businesses dedicated to restoring, rebuilding or refurbishing old and wrecked biked to flip. Any damaged bike you find here that hasn't been snatched up is likely beyond repair either technically or in that the enterprise isn't financially tenable. Lol I'm so poor that I don't even dream of buying a new Superbike, but rather fixing up a trashed older model.
It’s the same here there are hundreds of shops and thousands of people that do the same thing so when somebody posts one for sale it typically sells within an hour so you have to buy it instantly.

Yeah at the end of the video I figured it out. pretty stupid mistake but this is my first GSXR, my Honda’s and yamahas didn’t require you to so it just slipped my mind to try it.

This should be a parts bike. The frame is scratched which makes it a salvage title or a certificate of destruction. The front end looks bent. Too much work and too many parts needed to make a profit on rebuilding this bike.
I get what you’re saying but that’s not true, front end is good and I’m going to have about 3-4k into this bike and it’lol be worth 6-8k

Local Facebook marketplace is where I got most of these parts, and if you can’t find everything you need I go to eBay mainly (especially for used parts) and sometimes Amazon.

I’ve gotten some screwed up stuff too before. But I typically calculate that into my offer because I’ve had issues like that before and typically I can assess the damage and figure out what I’m kinda looking at if it’s damage from a wreck the engines typically good but if nothing looks cosmetically wrong then I sometimes assume the engine has issues. Sometimes you just get a lemon though that’s why I never pay too much I’ll walk away if the deal isn’t good enough.

99% of rebuild videos are "let's look for a wreck with working engine". When will we see an engine rebuild? :D
Lol yea I try to find rebuilds that aren’t ganna cost me a fortune but Ive done 3 rebuilds 1 Yz450f, and 2 most recently on 2 different cbr600rr’s

I just acquired a crashed 2013 GSXR 1000 that has been sitting for 2 years or more, pulled the fairings off, checked the frame (good) has a crack in the clutch cover (JB weld) got power to the bike, No click, no nothing, no crank just one light went dim via jump pack. I already figured it wouldn't start. Guessing battery or starter switch on the handle (right side). ignition switch security bolt stripped so there's that. Otherwise bike is in great shape. Looking at new fairings, right side foot peg, exhaust broke off, rear brake lever bent but not hideously, chain, side mirrors, passenger saddle and all the love, patience I can give it.

@@Benjamminoutdoors Haha yeah it's throwing some challenges at me. Got it to crank (forgot to pull clutch in) won't fire though it wants to, gonna disconnect the kill and reconnect, look at TPS clueless at the moment.

I do custom stuff occasionally and this is not one that I wanted to do that on, because the value of the bike is Very high if it’s in pristine OEM condition. Instead I will take cheap bikes and turn them into café racers and stuff.

You need to hold the clutch lever in before touching the starter button, or it will not do anything. It's a safety feature.
I always wondered why Americans call the yokes, triple trees.
Idk I guess cause there’s 2 forks and 1 steering stem so that makes 3 and they stand vertical like trees?😂 so triple tree idk that’s my guess lol
