I absolutely love how the Ring Racers tutorial skip was handled. They really did say "Okay, you think you're tough shit? Too good to learn the new mechanics? Fine, win the race hotshot."
@@ZanaGBYT That is what I was noticing, as I am also an old SRB2 Time trial fanatic (not much of an online player due to lots of shit in my life etc.) It doesn't teach you a lot of what you need to know to actually play on the level of a guy who grinds time trials and knows things about the quirks of the engine etc. maybe there should be an advanced tutorial option.
As someone new to DRRR and SRB2K in general, I played the tutorial all the way through and when I found the test track race immediately after I BARELY managed to scrape by in 4th place, and this was AFTER the patch. The tutorial didn't help with actual racing at all lmao
Best part about the thumbnail is that that exact line of dialouge is referenced in Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers itself when you encounter Jack Frost as Knuckles.
First time I saw this, I got distracted by the shiny color thing. I caught up with many many items and got my 4th on the first try, but it felt dicey the whole time.
as someone who survived the tutorial, i have to say that it might be a necessity to try it at least once to learn all the new systems on the game. however, that doesnt excuse the fact that you have to sit thru it on your first playthru or to get trolled in that test race. it is really easy to put disclaimers about recommending going to the tutorial and put it as an option in the first page of the menu so people know its there. but forcing people thru it if they dont need it like in this video? yeah, thats not cool. same with locking multiplayer and addon support.
How do you race well in this game ? I can't drift without either stopping to a crawl or going offroad or in a wall. Are you also braking ? Crazy that I went through 40 minutes of tutorial and I can't finish the first race without flinging myself everywhere
you basically want to always be ringboosting, its theo nly way to keep your speed during drifts like in SRB2K, the ring boxes also naturally increase your speed (Auto-boosting maybe?) hope this helps, godspeed, Ring Racer.
I actually didn't update my game yet so I had to go and beat the prenerf version as well. I hope we get an update later that gives us the unnerfed version. Tails telling us that the CPU's were prototypes of his makes way more sense when they aren't nerfed.
I'mma be absolutely real with y'all, I beat the release version of the tutorial the long way; I'm glad I did; and IMO the people complaining about not being able to skip the tutorial should not be listened to. There are things to improve about the tutorial, for sure, but after seeing people mash through all the tutorial dialogue and then complain that they don't understand the mechanics, I'm doubling down on it: The tutorial _should_ be mandatory. Remember back when a guy wrote a bad review for Cuphead because he couldn't get past the tutorial? Remember how we all made fun of that guy? I'm holding y'all to that same standard.
Honestly, this tutorial is on a different level of terrible, it's unreal It feels like it's designed to teach you about a hypothetical story mode, rather than the actual races They teach you about the attacking feature but they show you it by having you open switches which implies that there is going to be switches all over the tracks but that is just not true On top of that, they teach you about tricks for a whole section of the tutorial, but almost none of the maps actually have any trick ramps on them, which is pretty baffling I did the tutorial pre-patch, and it took me like a whole hour, and I really was still confused at the start of the game
I did the tutorial pre-patch as well and I also found it overly long. I didn't know about the skip race either. What really didn't help is that they weren't offering Linux builds at the time so I had to compile it myself. I forgot to specify an optimised build so this Doom engine game failed to get a stable 35FPS at 480p. While that part was definitely on me, it absolutely left a sour taste in my mouth. It got better when I recompiled it with optimisations at least - It gets 35FPS (which I intentionally capped it at because I think the interpolation makes it less responsive) at 1080p.
Tbh, I feel like they only added those features halfway through development, but couldnt bother going back bcus it would take way, WAY too long to adjust the tracks to have all these features that are very useless
@@ohmygodmateitbearinnitkid9251 that's what I mean. Switches *aren't* in the maps so having switches in the instawhip tutorial just adds unnecessary confusion
do I get a t-shirt or something for winning the pre-nerf version of this race offscreen :(
I hope so

this game makes my eyes hurt from sensory overload
I agree, is very taxating visually, even with the fluff deactivated in the "accesibility options" I ended with the sight very tired after a few races.
This feels like the Sonic version of Cruelty Squad

You have to turn off lite steer, then you can drift (somewhat) normally, but youll probably continuously bump into walls anyway so
