I have my upgrade kit on order - thank you Kim for posting this helpful guide through the process! I look forward to watching you work with the new feet :)
I just purchased a factory refurbished MC9400QCP (with new 25-year warranty) for my wife’s upcoming birthday. I’m confident she will be so happy with the quality and features of this machine, as well as upgrading from a 7 1/4-inch throat to an 11-inch throat and the upgrade kit. Her quilts will be so happy too! Thanks for this and all of your incredibly well-laid-out tutorials. We’re both hooked on watching them.
I love Janome machines. My first one was the 8,000 many, many years ago. Then we traded that machine in for the 11,000. I still have those thingies you insert into the 8,000 that have never been opened!! My hubby just bought me the Babylock Destiny II a year ago and I have yet to learn how to learn all it can do. It is way too much machine, I am afraid!! Good thing I still have my Janome 11,000!!! I am teaching my hubby how to quilt and he uses that machine. The Janome 9400 looks like a wonderful machine. Can't wait to watch your other videos!! Peace and blessings, Vicki
Tracey j Have just ordered a Janome 9400 for my 50th B'day and the ruler kit was included in the deal....soooo excited and totally ready to install after watching your great video! THANK YOU!!!
Is available in the U.K. My 9400 has just been collected by the courier. Hooray, Janome have finally accepted that I've been trying to work with a faulty machine. This has gone on for 18months. Backwards and forwards to dealer, and for the last 4 months to Janome itself. So sometime next week we start another 130 mile trip to collect the machine. Read so many glowing reports on what a brilliant machine it is, hopefully I will soon be singing its praises too Thank you Kim for all the 9400 videos. I've saved them all, watched several times So that I know the faults were machine and not user error, gives me my confidence back Valerie
Hi Valerie: That is so frustrating and I don't know why they just don't have you take the machine back and replace it after it's been back to the dealer once. Sorry you had to go through that. I'm sure that once you get a new machine you'll be stitching away happily :)
Chatterboxquilts I did phone Janome UK It hasn't been released here yet. Not likely to be for months. They don't have any idea yet. The problem we have with ordering anything from USA costing more than £15 is the import duty, and extra post office handling charge. That almost doubles the cost! Thanks for your reply Kim, I appreciate it Valerie
With the video it was so easy!!! Thank you!!! I subscribed today to Chatterbox quilts and have learned a variety of new techniques. I look forward to watching other videos and learning more!!! especially the ruler foot.
Hi Kim - I love your videos and have a 9400 with an installed upgrade kit. I have followed all the instructions from you and the book as I am keen to learn ruler work. Everything goes well but then The upper thread breaks. As I cannot use the needle threader with the QR foot, I then need to manually thread the needle. What am I doing wrong?
Having trouble with hitting the black bobbin holder. My needle has even pierced it. Any ideas what's wrong. Think I need a tutorial how to insert. Can you help with that
Hi Linda: The upgrade changes some of the software in the Janome 9400 to accommodate the new feet, especially the ruler foot. More videos are coming so you can see how each of the new feet work.
I'm hearing from other quilters in the UK that they don't have much info on it yet. Have you checked with a Janome dealer? I know you can order it online from Pocono Sew & Vac and other online vendors in the US.
Hi Kim, is the upgrade only for the new feet? If I don't plan on doing ruler work etc is the upgrade necessary or are other features on the machine upgraded as well?
Hi Kathy: As far as I can tell, the upgrade is just for these feet - really to be able to use the PD-H (darning foot) and ruler foot. There's a 1/4" foot that doesn't have a guide, but I like using the HP foot for 1/4" seams anyway and the open toe variable zigzag foot, which as a quilter I'm not sure how much I'll use. Once you upgrade the machine, you have a ruler work choice in the Sewing Applications.
As much as I appreciate your videos; I am very disappointed in the upgrade kit. I purchased my kit for $119.00 and it did, indeed include 4 feet; three of which are already included with the machine; so now I have two sets.. The software upgrade would have been available to me at no cost and the only new foot that is new, is a ruler foot which is a $40 item. It would have been far better for us to have received the blue dot low tension bobbin case in the upgrade kit rather than the 3 feet that we already have, as they were included with the purchase of the machine? Now I still have to search for and get the bobbin case and they seem to be out of them throughout Amazon.
Hi Phyllis: Sorry that you are disappointed in the upgrade kit. I didn't have any of the feet in the kit, so I'm not sure how you already had yours - different country, different feet sometimes. I can see how this would make the kit seem not as useful and too expensive. I was glad to get the ruler foot and the open toe free motion foot as well as the upgrade so I don't have to worry about damaging the machine when fmq'ing. You should be able to get the blue dot bobbin kit at your local Janome dealer or elsewhere online as I've seen it sold by many websites.
@@Chatterboxquilts Thank you for such a quick reply. My 9400 may have been a special package that included extra feet as well as an extension table. I've had her for a few years now and I do love my machine. I have ordered a low tension blue dot from Amazon. I have been practicing free motion quilting and am trying to ignore the eyelashes as I practice. You have been very helpful. My blue dot arrives tomorrow; can't wait.

It’s OK Kim - I watched your video on avoiding thread breakage and set my height to 1.5 and voila - no more breakages. Thank you!,

It's on my "videos to do" list. Thanks for the suggestion, Sandra.
I would like to know what the upgrade does. Is the upgrade just for the ruler foot?

I meant to ask is the upgrade available in the Uk?
Thanks

Thanks Kim, I treated myself and bought the kit. I may not use some of the upgrades just yet but I'll have them for when I do. lol
Is there a cost for the upgrade?
Yes, this varies depending on the store selling it.
