I’ve done three and a half weeks in a carry on. Had access to laundry.

Hi Rachel. You’ve done well for a first timer but you’ve still got a lot of stuff for a 7 day trip. Before covid m6 husband and I would go to Europe a couple of times a year for 2-3 months at a time and I’ve learnt the hard way that less is more. I travel with a soft-sided international sized bag and one small cross-body bag. I’ve learnt to keep my clothes and toiletries to a minimum. I always travel with 11-14 items of clothing, 3 pairs of shoes, 1 swimming costume and a couple of scarves. My capsule wardrobe has to accommodate a range of temperatures as we leave home in Canberra, Australia in the middle of winter, fly to the UK to catch up with family and spend the majority of our trip in the hot, sunny Mediterranean summer. My bag is usually about three-quarters full and weighs about 8 kgs when we leave Australia. But I’m the first to admit that not many people can travel as light as me. My husband always has a bigger bag but it usually weighs the same as mine. Most of my friends think I’m absolutely crazy but for me it’s all about freedom. Im 58, not as strong as I used to be and back pain most of the time, so for me travelling light is all about being able to get around easily, being able to carry my bag up and down the stairs all over Europe and being able to get on and off trains with my bag without struggling - but I’d be lost without my husband helping sometimes. Even though I have a carryon bag, I have to check it when flying from home to Europe and back again because we have a strict maximum carryon baggage allowance of 7 kgs. However I always fly carryon in Europe and the US. The secret to travelling light is to take exactly what you need and nothing more. My cross-body bag is just big enough for my mini iPad, passport, phone, wallet and little else. The bigger my bag, the more I want to put in it but the secret is not to.

I'm glad I saw your video it was very good advice and information. I'm traveling to the carribean in a few weeks with my 11 year old I really dont want to check a bag if I don't have to. Do you suggest or think this would work for me for a 7 day trip if we each have our own carry on bag?

I loved your secondary bag! I also use a separate pouch for all my toiletries, this is awesome. I enjoyed watching this! thought I might also share the best carry-on bag I have been using for a long time now and recommend it to you. It is a bento bag from Nomad Lane. It is the most trusty, functional, and easy-to-carry bag. I have been traveling for work mostly and it is the best bag ever.❤🥰
