I like the slice of life feel, with the combat being part of the life. I like that this doesn't spend too long explaining the system and gets into it, and death being almost always certain adds tension to this "game." Good choice of enemies. I enjoyed the beast-kin ceremony and the immigrant allegory with her. I wish the love interest had some sort of conflict, maybe even before they got together, but I like the army butting heads with Daniel. I love the money troubles giving Daniel stagnation: it's a gamer-relatable problem, and such a novel idea.
Tao Wong, thank you so much for sharing this with me. As a writer about to start my own self publishing journey, and writing in the same genre I am very impressed. I think what I enjoyed so much about this story is that it only a small part in this character journey yet you made it so interesting. Each character even just supporting, felt real, and with their own motivations. Your description of combat though different from my own felt grounded. And your setting description, just in describing temperature helped me cement myself in the scene. I hope I can equal you ability as I move forward. I am looking forward with great anticipation for the next installment.
Great narrative and I can be really picky with narrators but I enjoyed his voice more than I thought. Characters are great and overall a great listen. thank u regardless

Well yeah, that’s the idea lol. I’m only an hour in but I wonder if they’ll ever work the player into the story, or if they’ll say if other people are NPCs or whatever.
@@jerod5636 Great, so you knew what litRPG was before I did. When I wrote the comment I had known neither the genre nor that there were readers who enjoyed listening to more than 5 hours of endless repeat. Now that I think of it... I am learning an instrument and really hope my neighbours belong to this group as well... BTW what means NPC?
@@verak6058 non player character. For example the boy that was run over would almost certainly be an NPC in a normal RPG because each new player to enter the world would likely be shown the accident and from there guided into the story. I’m sorry if I came off like a jerk earlier. I was trying to mock the book, not you. This is an awful example of the genre, because there is no story. There’s no effort whatsoever to explain how the world works. It’s supposed to be a game sure, but why would anyone play it? There’s no reason for anyone to go in the dungeon. Gather mana stones? Ok but why? What do they do? Why would the guild want to buy them? In sandbox style RPGs in which one makes their own story (which this just has to be because there’s no damn plot whatsoever) it’s the interaction between the players controlling the characters that drives the game but we aren’t told anything about the way the game works. It’s just disappointing. Again, sorry for the snark. Good luck with your instrument. I just lost mine in the hurricane.
@@jerod5636 Thanks for your detailed reply. It really helps me understand the lure of RPGs and a sandbox style game sounds fascinating. @@verak6058 thank you! As far as a recommendation for a book, I’d say ‘Ready Player One” would be a great start. “Ender’s game” as well, but it’s doesn’t quite fit the genre, but it’s close. If you’re into the whole anime/manga scene there are a few there. Sword Art Online is probably the most well known title but while it’s a fun story at first it goes downhill pretty quickly. The protagonist is such a Mary Sue I lost interest in it, but the community loves it or hates it. Super polarizing for whatever reason. Overlord is another that I have read. Much like sword art online though, it falls off after a while. There are movies set on the books and anime’s based on the mangas if you prefer a videos. I enjoy the genre (normally, this one is dreadful) but I still don’t think anyone has really nailed it yet. It’s probably pretty difficult to write these stories.
