I was a seaman in the Coast Guard from 1975-1979 and we had a 44ft double ended self-righting boat this is 47ft version of that boat very impressive. Was in Sturgeon Bay at a small boat station we had a 41ft aluminum hull boat 600 horsepower we took off the top of 10-12-foot waves doing a rescue. Loved doing rescue work.
These captains are the best of the best....I have a buddy Capt. Phillips who ran a 42 footer like it was a jet ski back in the 80's out of San Pedro. Unreal what they can do with watercraft.
Watched the boys in Newport Oregon playing on the bar while we were waiting out weather in south harbor.. they were rolling the boat in 30+ foot breakers!!!!
Takes years to qualify then certify as a Surf Coxswain. But more importantly, a great Coxswain is only as good as their crew so having a highly trained crew is just as important as having a highly trained Coxswain. The MLB 47 was designed primarily for this type of operation. It sucks for personnel transfers, boardings, or anything where the transfer platform is lower and smaller than the 47. Police officers learn to push their cruisers to the max and essentially train by driving it like they stole it. Same principle applies to CG training, CG doesn't train in perfect conditions because then when everything is worst case scenario you have crews that are now operating in conditions they are not comfortable in. When operations are easier than training scenarios the scene slows down and things become manageable. Train, maintain, operate.
Coast Guard members are just built different. They don't get the respect they 150% deserve. Water hits like a ton of bricks, and in winter off the Cali coast that's gotta be so freaking cold.
We did this in an old 17 foot Chriscraft with a 48 Ford flathead V8 off Ocean Beach in San Diego in complete fog. Waves were breaking inside the jetty.
So glad they’re putting in the hard work and practice. USCG there to save us idiot recreational boaters when we do something stupid. I’m am always amazed at some of crap boats I see going out in The Deep Blue.
Good times/ bad times ya know I've had my share. Coasties always have had some interesting surf boats. 36ft. ,44ft and now 47's. The 36&44's were kind of like crossing the bar in a bathtub with an engine.
Perfect example of something the Coast Guard does everyday but nobody really sees it or experiences it. Great job to Station Golden Gate for taking the time to film the surf training (surf training requires two boats so the other motor life boat was filming the training because they were standing bye for casualty control or rescue). Most local, state, and federal agencies struggle trying to tell their story. Taking the time to video activities and then insert a cool soundtrack to them is something that should be encouraged instead of just hearing about different agencies when things go wrong. That's why people like watching the environmental police shows because it gives the public an opportunity to see things they would normally never ever get to see. I wish I could go back in time and have a body worn camera or an authorized go-pro camera to document experiences that unless on video you would never believe they actually happened. It's not just about the death, destruction, or carnage but rather it's about telling your story. I am sure people would love to sit shotgun on a Coast Guard small boat engaged in a midnight pursuit of a drug smuggling vessel where you can't see 3 feet in front of your face yet you are traveling at 45 knots tracking a tiny contact on radar and their wake as you encounter it ever so often. These pursuits last hours and in the end the vessel will normally toss the drugs in order to escape. Keep making the efforts to tell your story Coast Guard. BZ
Chief Petty Officer to the Lieutenant JG as they head towards the big surf...'Ah, Sir did you have that pork fried double chimichanga with the quesadilla covered chorizo special?'...'Sir?'
Local surfers: Could you guys do that on a day when it’s not glassy and perfect?? Seriously though, what an incredible piece of engineering! And brave sailors, too!

Always great to watch. That’s crazy work to do, what an experience. The Coast Guard is amazing!
Also amazing was the surfers in the background.

I am the walrus
My tonsils are on that boat. In a mason jar. My mood ring is somewhere in the bilge..
My lunch would be on that boat...
The surfers were charging too 😀
Toughest paddle-out anywhere. CG boat gets pushed back 20 yards on each roller. Great footage.
Not really. Look at the background. The Captain throttles up before the wave and the boat moves back very little, none at all on some waves.
LOL the guy above has been out in 2 foot shorebreak on a Boogieboard when vacationing in Texas - he knows what he's talking about bwaahahaha.
@@William-Bill-Munny nothing wrong with boogieboardjng especially with every kook and their mother being a shit 'surfer' these days, trending hard
This video screams
"We have junior officers going out to sea for their first time today" 😂
Since when do officers go out in small boats at all?

Was watching this live on surfline and was like those dudes are just standing there taking that. Wow!
Honestly blows my mind how they can just sit in the impact zone like that. Great video.

If you trust your boat, you trust your boat.
Cool shot and cool music !
Thanks for posting looks like everyone on RUclips was on that boat lol
Awesome sound track too!
Another good one "When the Levee Breaks"
Great ocean waves video.
Amazing 🔥
Great footage God bless u sister
Perfect song !
I met the man who designed this coast guard boat. He sold his design to USCG decades ago. He was a nice man.
That boat is impressive!
I loved being on the 52foot invincible boat in Westport WA during my time in the Coast Guard.
Coast Guard members are just built different. They don't get the respect they 150% deserve. Water hits like a ton of bricks, and in winter off the Cali coast that's gotta be so freaking cold.
Man an can we give a standing ovation to those who help build an design the boat to move like nothing an take a punch
Awesome Video
Just vibin. No worries on that boat.
They are out there having fun… as the music implies. Semper Peratus
Dam your beautiful good choose in music it has a great edge .
So glad them boys and girls train like THAT to save our souls when it gets fucked up out on the high seas
You all are badass!
Awesome,they make it look easy
Sweet footage! Do you have footage of the second vessel that cut through the two barreling lefthanders? That one really hammered through!
Probably using a drone to film

Wow, Led Zeppelin!!!! Первая песня с первого альбома!
That's bad ass in some heavy surf.
looks fun for a few minutes. but the stress on the body and hull must be intense
So glad they’re putting in the hard work and practice. USCG there to save us idiot recreational boaters when we do something stupid. I’m am always amazed at some of crap boats I see going out in The Deep Blue.
Boat prices are outrageous can't blame them
Прикольная прогулка....!!!!
these long period swells have plenty of water behind them, very impressive boat.
Dam that looks like fun
Wow !!!! I also in that boat🥰
Those must be some pretty strong windows.

How many tons do you think that boat weighs? Shows the power of those waves.
Cool! That’s got to be quite a thrill!!! -:)
Nothing can ever replace the 52 boat or the 30 boat the rhi was pretty fun too
Would have loved to hear the sound of the wind and the waves - and the voices of the crew trying to be heard above it!!!
Why is it i can watch this all day?
I want my son a seaman like the crew of this coast guard team
Great adventure
100% badass!

New to living near the ocean and I’m not sure I understand what’s happening. Basically the boats just trying to maintain position it looks like?
