I want to thank you for a very concis and easy to follow video.
Best instructional video I have seen, in my opinion,on assembly, tuning and operation of the tarantula. Made my assembly a breeze. My sincerest thanks. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your kind comment :)
Just wanted to let you know that this video was super useful for reference as I was assembling my printer. Thank you for making it!
Hi Tom,
Thank you so much for your aswesome feedback. It means a lot.
Love u man!!!! the best Audio, video, explanations to assemble the printer. Professional. Great!!!!
Marcos Arruzzo ,
Thank you so much for your kind comment :)
Holy! I got my printer today and have already built it. I had problems with the manual and searched for assembling videos, but didnt find anything. 2h later u are uploading a video with A FULL ASSEMBLING!
Hi Wladimir Orlow, i have many more videos for the tarantula (tutorials, tips, upgrades, etc) including what to check before your first power on. Hope it helps :)
I already powered it on and I have the problem that the extruder-motor isn t working as it should. it doesn t rotating right, so the fillament doesn t move in. can u give me an advice pls
Hi,
Check the cable that connects to the extruder motor and check if its connected correctly. Also check if the colors are in the same order as the other cables of the other motors.
Glad someone made a video, the manual ends on a cliffhanger...
OMG RUI!! Thank you from the community. You are missing the glass since it is very hard to get any print form the original bed.Now please do one on how to install a Titan Extruder and maybe modify it with an E3D and some kind of bed level sensor. I'm asking this since you know you were my Tarantula Hero and I followed your videos and upgrades to the T and so far they have worked great and I got my tarantula printing like the Gods!. Thanks again Hugs!
Hi Belen,
Thank you so much for your comment. Regarding the glass, you are correct but that is an addon. I have a couple of videos where i show which are the most important upgrades and add-ons for the tarantula. This video is just for the assembly. People without glass can still print on the bed using painters tape :)
Regarding the ideas for next videos, i thank you for them. Your ideas are excellent and i will try to make them as soon as i can :)
Thank you so much for this video! So easy to follow and really well presented. Helped me so much.
I guess it's pretty randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to stream new series online ?
@Jaxton Jerry i use FlixZone. Just search on google for it =)
@Axton Jax yup, I've been watching on FlixZone for since april myself :D
@Axton Jax Thank you, I signed up and it seems to work :) Appreciate it !
@Jaxton Jerry You are welcome =)
FANTASTIC BUILD GUIDE! send to TEVO !
Hi N Olesen,
Thanks. Tevo already has the video in their new website here: tevo.cn/product.php
i wish this video existed when i bought mine it was a challange to build it but the results are worth it
Finally very good building guide!
Thanks Otto :)
Just got mine earlier today. This seems like it will come in handy as the "awesome" manual that was touted about on youtube shows nothing about the wireing.. Thank you in advance.
Hi David,
This manual is the latest and most accurate you can find. Also, you can check my other videos as i have a "what to do before first poweron" instructions, a video explaining how to arrange the cables, upgrades and tips. One recomendation...Buy and add flat washers everywhere between the nuts and the acrylic. Also, replace the nuts with lock nuts. And finally, replace the spring washers with flat washers.
Cool thank you sir!
190mm isnt quit centered. On my mine anyway. Its 191.5
Look aat thiss bit.ly/2ti0R70 It's best price for this.
Have a nice day!!
ruclips.net/video/_0F4T4aBN8c/видео.html
Far better than the manual - superb!
Thank you so much for your feedback Mark :)
Great tutorial please note if you get MKS gen L as your board you will need to download and install drivers. Also you will need to get O connectors and ferrules can be readily picked up on E-Bay with a crimper for less than £5.Just one other thing I would point out. When assembling the mainboard use as anti static glove and wristband. It is something easily forgotten but can fry your board so easily
Nice video as usual Rui!
Thank you so much ;)
you're too good Rui. Tevo still getting away with using the community to do stuff they should be. I hope they gave you this machine for free, for this purpose.
Thank you so much for your kind comment Chris :)
Hi Rui, Excellent video (as usual)
Question:
Can you tell us what the difference is between the old Tarantula vs the 2017 Tarantula besides the Titan Extruder.
The upgrades you (and many others) used on the old version, are they also needed on the 2017 version ?
I know for sure the part cooler is still not with the kit, but for example, the Z-Axis bracket and other corner brackets.
You still suggest to upgrade all of those parts ?
3DPP go buy ender 2
Osman topçu, your answer is a bit off-topic.
Don't get me wrong but not everybody wants stuff that works out of the box.
Hi 3DPP,
Thank you for your comment.
Regarding the differences, one that stands out the most is the main board.
This new version includes an MKS base v1.4 while the older version had an MKS base v1.2.
The other differences are:
This new power supply includes an internal fan (the old one didn't)
The heatbed is equipped with an insulation on the bottom side to help maintain the temperature
Also, the heatbed is equipped with a molex connector the cable and the cable itself is made with a pair of wires instead of a thicker single one. The end side of the cable that connects to to board already is crimped (but i prefer using my own ferrules).
...As you said, this one includes the titan extruder and titan extruder mount
Some washers are included but as before, i recommend to buy many and install everywhere
The written manual is far better than the "sheet" instruction from the first version.
My upgrade recommendations also apply to this version. I have a couple of videos indicating which are the most important upgrades and add-ons that you need to have...i still recomend them.
Hi Rui,
Thanks a bunch for the reply, i am certain the Tarantula community will love this answer.
For the upgrades, i have seen all of your posts about them (and more of your posts).
I'm a big fan of people that like to think out of the box.
Keep up the good work, love your channel.
Thanks 3DPP. That means a lot :)
I really like your videos. Your way of speaking is very didactic and so much help to those who do not understand English very well. It would be very cool a video in this style showing the installation and configuration. I have not yet been able to make my Tevo Tarantula work and all I get is error messages and material in Portuguese is non-existent and in English it is difficult to understand.
Hi,
Thank you for your comment.
I'm Portuguese so if you need adittional help, send me your email and i will try to help you.
Sir please make vedio about first printing of this printer with full tutorial plsssss
Hi,
Thank you for the suggestion.
Thx so much the manual is really bad at the mid point needed this the get though
awesome tutorial man this was definitely needed
Thank you so much for the feedback :)
Thank you VERY much for this!! Only had to google the correct cabling for my psu, but this tutorial saved my ass!!!
Hi NeoXen,
Thank you so much for your feedback!
Thank you so much the only good assembly guide out their
Thank you Nathan :)
Hi, nice video. Quick question - I have a Tarantula and thinking of building a base for it and putting the power supply and control board in a large compartment with some fans. Do you think that's a good idea? Thanks
I think it is a great idea. I am planning on making mine with 6mm plywood and a pine frame. Should make for a rigid base and allow for the frame to be securely fastened.
Thank you! Flawless and good to go!
thanks :)
Can I connect the fan wires in one terminal at once ? I only have one + and one - left and am not sure if doing so will result in a power outage..
Oh and the tutorial is really great and explains everything well , even to someone that hasn't dealt with a 3D printer until now !
Hi,
Let me check if i understand correctly your question...
You want to know if you can connect both fan wires in the same terminal of the power supply?
If this is your question, then the answer is yes, you can.
Sorry for not expressing myself good enough , what I tried to say was , if I could connect both black wires of the 2 fans together and put them in the last negative terminal at the power supply and both red wires of the 2 fans together and put them in the last positive terminal at the power supply.
I allready asked someone that has more experience with electronics then me and he said it would be fine , thanks for the reply though :)
ruiraptor what size of washers shall I get
thank you man. i download and save this in a safe place :)
;)
Excellent video!!!
Thank you Juan :)
one more thing, you may want to to change your estep /mm to 376.14 if using the titan extruder. it will save some headaches.
I will try to make a separate video explaining how to install and setup the titan extruder. For this video i only used the stock extruder.
Thank you very much.
I used a ton of washers on acrylic parts. Tevo could include washers in this set
True. Washers are definitely recommended when assembling the tarantula.
I come back to here often to recalibrate something during a tear down. Could you time stamp each assembly?
Thx you Rui. Can you make a video about the first printing Process pls?
Damian Takumi Usui,
Thanks for the suggestion. I will try to make it soon
Hi Rui. Ummm this is the manual for the kit model? The one I'm getting is supposed to be already built except for a few things. Di I really need this 2+ hour video. Your other videos cover my machine.
HI,
Are you refering to the tarantula? Where did you buy it from?
OMG so sorry. Wrong machine. No I got the tornado. I read it wrong. oops!
Missing from list of required tools (in my case): Metric tap-and-die set, because by the time I got to the X-axis carriage, one of the T-nuts refused to thread, and upon closer inspection it was because there were NO threads. :V
Wow... :(
Great video! I will use it when mine comes in, Have a question. Can 3mm abs filament be used with this? and can i use different size extruder nozzles? such as RepRap 3D Printer Brass Nozzle 0.2/0.3/0.4/0.5 For 1.75mm / 3mm Filament*-
Thank you in advance..
good video. very usefull. The "gif" extruder cannot be used: the gear shaft spacing is not right. Cannot assemble the stepper motor and the gear.
???
The gift extruder can be used. Maybe there is an issue with yours? I have a video (for the tevo tornado printer) where i explain how to adjust the titan...maybe that video can help in some way? Have a look and let me know.
Hey hai i have successfully assembled the printer but i have brought autolevelling one so i am not sure to switch on and check the home all could help me what to do next
Nicely done!!
It would be nice to show how to ZERO the home point. Right now, when it homes, it hits the limit switches and does stop in the correct corner but, that is not the REAL home in software. In reality, the home point is far off so you can't use the full size of the bed. If you are on the stock firmware, there are no directions... Everything seems to be for the modified community firmware.
Hi, you are correct. That is due to the home offsets that are defined in the stock firmware. To change them you need to flash a modified version of the firmware. In my channel, you can find that information.
ruiraptor thank you. I would prefer to leave stock firmware for warranty. How can I change that in stock firmware?
I would change it. The printer will work fine with the stock firmware but you are limited in many ways like, for example, you dont have access to eeprom data saving (which prevents you to adjust the steps per mm), babysteps, home offsets, etc. You have many firmware versions available in the official tevo facebook forum. I have a video in my channel explaining how to upload (an older but functional) a firmware version.
ruiraptor thank you so very much for your time and help. I have seen your videos so many times and I have to say that I owe a lot of my printing success with this printer to you and your excellent videos.
Thank you so much for your kind feedback. Any questions just let me know
Is there any way to wire it without ferrules
Hi Brent,
I strongly recommend you to use ferrules. This is the correct and safest way to connect your wires.
The only safe alternative i can think of is to solder the wires directly to the board.
Hey I just bought the printer but do i have. Buy the connector you mention at the beginning of the vid
www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B074KTPX68/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
scott milliken do you know if I have to have it tho?
Well, once the end of these wires is crimped, they do fit into the terminal block and there is no chance of any of the wire strands shorting things out. I will tell you, you need to have the wires secured into these blocks so there is no wiggle. I had the printer stop printing with a heating error, one of the wires had come loose. Those terminal blocks are a PITA, but I would not solder the wires directly to the board, still too many thing things hanging out to cause problems.
Long story short, I would use them. Nothing else that will give the tightness inside the blocks.
On the display it indicates that the X-axis Offset is 100mm, Y-axis Offset is 100mm and the Z-axis Offset is 2mm. How do I change these? I would like to zero them
Hi, you need to edit the values on the firmware or following this:
ruclips.net/video/NiyU1cTTYlM/видео.html
Ruiraptor, didn't you do a video on inverting z motor(s)? I can't find it...
Hi David,
I have a video about installing the second Z motor and leadscrew but in the upper position. I don't have any video installing inverted.
Any opinion on doing so? I know I've seen a video or two(thought one was yours). Is there really any advantage? Wondering before I install the second z motor.
Where did you get the small feral electrical piece?
Hi Nathan,
You mean the ferrule terminals?
You can get them in any electric stores locally or websites like ebay or amazon.
RIP I used my titan extruder mount for the extruder motor mount =/
F
Ok ive tried to remedy the problem Im having with my prints. On the backside of my test cube, on the lower 10mm portion is underfilling. If you view the cube looking at the side, the rear of the cube has a curve (underfill) on the lower part. Anything printed above 10mm is good. Ive checked many things, belt tension, esteps, bed level, tried different temps, checked z rod for bends or thread damage, rod/mtor alignment. Ive printed a cube on different areas of the bed. Im out of ideas... any suggestions are appreciated! Love your videos! Thanks for making them
Hi, can you please contact us by email and attach some pictures too? Thanks
my bed and extruder carriage are not homing correctly.it goes half way and stops. Also the belts are vibrating and the bed and extruder carriage do not move immediately but after a few seconds
Hi,
Check if the motor wires and connectors are ok. Maybe you have a loosen wire?
Ok Great video!! Helped me put mine together, but you don;t mention anything about firmware installation before printing? Do i need to download firmware, And do i put that on my sd card?
I went through the calibrations, I have a object to print { g code} I used the idea-maker slicing software, LOVE IT!!! so can i put that object on my sd card and print now? my sd card was blank, thought i would have firmware on it ?? guess not.
Hi Dolly,
You don't need to upgrade the firmware if you don't want to. It's an optional upgrade. I do have a video explaining how to upgrade the firmware. The video is old and explains how to flash an old version. It works perfectly but if you prefer to flash a more recent firmware, you can download recent versions from the official tevo facebook forum.
The official tevo website (tevo.cn/support.php) also has some files but not as updated as the ones you can find in the facebook forum.
Regarding the sliced model, yes...you need to copy the sliced (gcode) to the sdcard. Don't use the one that came with the printer as it normally corrupts files and messes your print. Get a new card from a local store. You can also use usb connection but i recommend to use the SDcard instead as it's safer.
Thank you for the fast reply I REALLY appreciate it!! Good to know about the sd card i did notice some problems with it so i will scrap it.. I am still getting to know the printer, I was relieved when it actually powered up after a long build time {for me, I'm slow} Your Video is a life saver for this 3d model!! I would not have been able to build it without your video AWESOME!! I also appreciate the help and Quick response after, I know i will need more help as i go, A HUGE THANK YOU!!!
Thanks. Any questions let me know ;)
Man i am having trouble getting installing the casted brackets
Hi Arun,
Why? What's happening?
when i am assembling the casted brakets they are coming out even if i tigthend the screws also the whole brackets are coming out so i used the l brackets which used in base inplace of casted brackets but is it okay to do so ??
I guess you have some unsquared parts...or the brackets or the profiles are not square cut.
Try to assemble the profiles with the L brackets to secure them and square them all and at the end you can try to install the cast brackets. Another solution is to buy some brackets from openbuilds.
i had problems too... make sure to hold the bolt head and washer at the edge of the slot so it tightens properly. watch his video again, you can see hes doing that....
What are the wire connectors you use which go into the terminal blocks?
Hi Scott. Those are called ferrules. Check the very start of the video where i show exactly what you need.
Thanks for the reply. For some reason, the video always wants to start at minute 31. Any ways, thanks again, and I will re-watch the video in its entirety.
Yes...that can be annoying. It's not related with the video itself but with the browser. I'm using chrome and that also happens. If i open the link with internet explorer it starts from the beggining.
ruiraptor do you have to have those ferrules
I switched to a different SD card, loaded a couple g files, put it in the lcd monitor thingy and went to print and No printing was going on, thought perhaps it was the card so used the old one and tried to print the same item, and it also, No printing, However the printer "thingy" itself says it was printing as it read, But... I got nothing, I tried varies things turn on turn off ect... did axis movement that reads fine, changed filament, no wires loose or burned or anything.. The firmware wont open on my computer.. So what am i doing wrong? What are your thoughts??
Glad you got it working.
Any chance there is an electrical wiring write up / diagram for the Makerbase GEN L V1.0?
Hi John,
The wiring is basically the same. The connector names are the same. You just need to plug in the drivers. When connecting the drivers, take care of the orientations (color pin header to color pin header and black pin header to black pin header).
ruiraptor thx bud. I actually figured it out and was able to start bee leveling. Seems like bed isnt actually level itself though. I also added dual z which may be causing me some issues. Anyhow, thanks for the response!
Do you recommend running all fans back to power supply or hot end fan to the controller or ...? I did all back to supply but it seems like that's wrong.
And thanks for the videos and all you've done. It's fantastic!
Ok, Its printing now, don't know how or why but i will take it!, Abs seams to be a bit more finiky what would be a good temp for Abs having a bit of stik problem, going to try a bit of glass and calibrate the bed level, Thank you in advance for your help, a little question i would like to use 3 mm filament what do i need to do? Thank you..
Hi Dolly,
For abs you need much more temperature compared with PLA, not only for the nozzle but also for the heatbed.
Also, for ABS, an enclosure is recommended to maintain the heat around the printer/print.
Regarding the 3mm filament, if you want to use that type of filament, you need to replace a lot of things like PTFE tube, hotend, fittings, etc...so not that easy...it's easier for you to return your 3mm filament spool and get a 1.75mm instead.
Thank you, Yea I did find that out about that finiky freeky abs, oh well perhaps at a later time for both projects when i am not such a novice at it all, You have been VERY helpful as well as your videos, I have been watching, Thanks again keep up the great work!
Thanks :)
Hi. Do I have to get the crimping tool for the ring terminal and the ferrules?
Hi Arcris,
To correctly crimp the ferrules and ring terminals i recommend to get the crimping tool. This way you have the garantee that the terminals are correctly crimped and god to go.
Ok. Is the crimping tool for the ring terminal and ferrules different?
Yes...they are different. You can see both of mine at the beginning of the video.
What size of washers shall I get
i bought a kit with M2 through M5 nuts washers and the same type of screws that the printer comes with.
This printer is a nightmare to build and configure
I agree
I followed your video for putting the TEVO Tarantula together, and everything went fine until I turned it on and tried the first task of zeroing it. Controller lit up and functioned fine, but once I sent the command to zero absolutely nothing happened. I have checked and double checked all the wiring and still nothing. Either all the motors are bad or the board is not sending signals or power through to them. Is this common? Do I need to do something specific to troubleshoot? Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
Hi, which board did you get? MKS base or MKS gen L? If you got an MKS gen L, did you isntall the drivers on the board?
I had your exact problem and I saw my board was different as ruiraptor is saying as well. In my kit it game with four small little chips that connect to the board on the right side of the stepper motor connections. There are two rows of pins, green and black. Plug in the small chips which are the motor drivers into those pins corresponding with the colors and the motor connections you use. I hope this helps if not let me know and I will try to help you further.
Hey!! Awsome video and How long days it take for delivery Genrally??
Hi,
It depends on the shipping method and destination. If you choose DHL it can take about 5/8 days to arrive to destination (also depends on customs clearance time).
Mine took like 6 days to get here
Thx
:)
so, I cant get the top wheels on the on the X idler mount to snug up no matter how much I adjust eccentric nut. any suggestions?
Hi,
Yes, you can try a couple of things.
First, flip the acrylic plate upside down and see if you get a better grip. This technique usually works.
If not, you can follow this:
ruclips.net/video/IH6ctMkp0N8/видео.html
ruiraptor do you know where one can find replacement parts, printed or not? Not acrylic... I managed to break Y axis motor mount before completing build....
Hi David,
You can super glue the acrylic…it will be as strong as if it was never broke.
Regarding the replacement parts, there are some people selling aluminum parts in the official tevo group on facebook.
I prefer the carbon ones because they are better and also because they absorb vibrations. I have a few videos explaining that.
The carbon plates can be bought as a kit or in individual parts. The carbon parts are made by Mackers.IT.
Here are a couple of links of my videos about that:
ruclips.net/video/H1HjKRZFDGY/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/tCQratqVSVU/видео.html
ruiraptor as always thank you sir! Im going to try some ca glue and see if it will hold long enough to to print said part.
Anytime ;)
Cheers

Hi guys,
Thanks for your support. I need to learn about patreon so i can make one account.
who knows the extra extruter is for what purpose?
The extra extruder (titan extruder) is an upgrade sent as gift.
Why is it so hard to find ferrules locally?
Hi David ,
Did you check the electric hardware stores?
ruiraptor yup. Frys electronics is what we have out here. Nothing.. Even checked with a couple smaller outfits.. No luck.. But they are coming via amazon tomorrow.
Hi David,
At least you have fast shipping with Amazon ;)
David Urdahl same I finally got them online
I went kinda nuts on amazon the other day. Got got a bunch of fasteners, mosfets, fans, some filament and the ferrules of course.
thx
Anyone here from Reeves?
yep, my printer just came in today too
SAME
yea man
At 25:40 even on the tightest setting for the eccentrics the plate has a tiny bit of play and is not snugly held into the extrusion's guides. Rechecked all parts of component and tried this too ruclips.net/video/IH6ctMkp0N8/видео.html with no joy. Any other advice on what to check?
OPPS! Un-tightened all 4 then pushed real hard to centre while re-tightening and that removed the play :)
Hi Finlay,
Yes, disassemble all the wheels and flip the acrylic plate up side down and re-install again...believe...it will help.
Can you update your problem? do the solution proposed by @ruiraptor works? thanks.
Finlay Macrae I assembled all the carriages OFF the profiles at their tightest settings, making sure all the wheels were at the same height, and then slid the whole thing onto the profile from one end. ZERO wobble.
So When is the next giveaway? Lol.
:D

were can I get the software for this printer
Check the official FB group. They have many versions for this model.
48:30
None of my moters will move
Hi,
you provided very little information.
Please contact me by email so that we can troubleshoot the problem.
ruiraptor hey I got that but all it will print random blobs of plastic
So it will go to the left side and make to towers and a piece go g across while extruding 1 4orth of a inch away from the platform. Every time no matter what I print. Also what is your email
Email me at ruiraptor.channel@gmail.com
The video did NOT tell/show you how to install your stepper drivers. You need to install the drivers (chips). Put a chip in each of the IC Socket. Install each of the IC Sockets into the x,y,x and extruder sockets on the motherboard.
