- I rise my hand or I raise my hand? Rise and raise are two verbs that are easy to confuse. In this lesson, I will teach the differences between these two words, their present tense, past tense, and past participle forms, and tricks to remember how we use them. www.engvid.com/...
Dear teacher Emma,
Although I'm a Brazilian native speaker, your marvelous work, together with the other EngVid teachers, has been helping us a lot. Due to your meticulous teaching style, we are profting a great deal from your videos. I always use them in my English lessons.

Rise : An intransitive verb, has a subject but no object.
Raise :A transitive verb, thus must have an object.

Teaching grammar isn't an easy task and not all conscious teachers opt for using grammatical termonology ! A vast majority of students complain that the study of grammar is too dull and boring and keep blaming their teachers !
This brave Lady is trying to make her lesson quite simple , so clear and enjoyable . She is not , at all , idiot .
@Anthony Purvis NO SHE IS NOT. YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Guys, so finally, who is an idiot?
Alireza Sameni your lesson is Good

thanks .. good info.
في العربية الفرق واضح تماماً
حين تقول "يرفع أو يربي" ستستخدم Raise وكلاهما يحتاج إلى مفعول به
أما حين تقول "يرتفع" فتستخدم Rise فالفعل يرتفع لا يحتاج مفعول به كما في مثال أشرقت الشمس أو ارتفعت الشمس
Abdo Als 5

Tu escritura si que es difícil de entender!
Abdo Als

Is that Bengali?
It's Arabic

I'm very happy about this your lesson. Earlier I used to confuse these two word but after I watched this video I'm enlightened.
I must admit that Raise and Rise were always confusing, and that I'd use haphazardly, to often wrong... But now I understand, and even the pronunciation, I would use the pronunciation rise, for both...Thanks you very much...

A very good lesson. You've explained in a very clear way the differences between those tricky words. Many, many thanks. Greetings!
Thanks a lot. I'm learning English & I've always been having trouble making a difference between these 2 words & using them the right way. One less confusion on my list of confusions 😁
we often use both verbs in economy... “prices have risen “ ... but “ st has raised prices” ..
Thank you very much for this lesson, I fell my knowledges are rising up !!! Awesome !
Howdy.
Raise is a transitive verb. A subject does something to an object.
Rise is an intransitive verb. It describes a change or tranisition of the subject.
Now in my senior years I have begun to appreciate the grammar school my parents put me through in the 70:s.
Regards.

Gmutook
Mrs Emma, you are so kind and always teaching with full love and your face is always smile. I have learnt a lot of important ponts from you
So you think she should get the raise she wants?I think she is being greedy. It should be about the mission not the money. Come on now Mohammad. She gets a rise when she get over her greed
That's funny 'cuz it's an extremely easy thing to learn but yet it confuses people. I couldn't tell the difference before this video, but being one transitive and the other intransitive is such a huge difference that I will never mess them up again!
Thanks Emma! =D
HI there, I'm an English teacher too.... I think TO is more for direction as it is a part of Prepositional Place (example: She went to Japan yesterday) . And FOR is more directing on giving someone something at it is a part of Preposition of Manner (example: I give this flower FOR you)... I think, hihi... Is it still confusing??
Ohh definitely teacher Emma you are pretty good as teacher, please keep uploading more videos like that, I am studying englisg to be a good teacher one day. Bye and God bless you.
Thanks for your invaluable work!
Perfect!
You're a great teacher and the most important:ilike your teaching system. It's FREE!!
