It’s virtually unbelievable that none of the correspondents even mention the existence of the Brussels Agreement when talking about the causes of unrest. The EU has signed and guaranteed its implementation but Prishtina has been ignoring it for 10 years now, without any consequences. This is the main reason why the Serbs boycotted the elections in order to show that they will no longer participate in the Kosovo institutions unless the agreement is fulfilled. Before Brussels, these municipalities were completely out of the Kosovo system and the agreement required the Serbs to integrate. They did their part, but the Albanians have been avoiding theirs for 10 years. Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti came to power by promising not to recognize the Brussels Agreement. Since he finally started to feel the pressure to fulfill the obligations guaranteed by the EU, he is trying to escalate the conflict, so he can find an excuse to kill the deal. To be sure, he is not alone, as the German government also tries to meke the deal obsolete because it finds it too good for the Serbs. Therefore this report by DW is so superficial and biased. The democratic principle, from an American perspective, is simple. Our government recognized Kosovo's independence. I assume our diplomats were intelligent enough to know what the borders were in that recognition. Therefore, Kosovo has a right to set up elections within its internationally recognized borders. And Serbia should stop trying to destabilize Kosovo with ethnocentric racialized games! The Serbians had an opportunity to vote, they could have voted their own mayor into those offices. There are no reports that the elections were not free and fair. The Serbians deliberately chose to try to destabilize Kosovo on merely, prejudicial ethnic grounds by boycotting the vote. NATO, contrary to your understanding of the matter, isn't defending Ukraine at all, but they are supporting Ukraine's ability and efforts to defend themselves.
Please split those guys for peace of Europe. There is no way people who fought each other for generations can rule each other.
Because Kosovo is Serbia
no its Kosovo
Serbia all the way down to Prizren! 🇷🇸 🇷🇸 🇷🇸
Why do people in Serbia think that life was better during Tito's time rather than now? Currently, Serbians are suffering like humans, but if Russia controls influence over Eastern Europe, they will suffer like dogs. So it all comes down to how you prefer to suffer, at least suffering like humans has some dignity attached to it, an entity you can blame for your suffering, but under Russia, you'll be too focused on dodging conscription, forced labor, and prison sentences for speaking your mind, you'll only care about raw survival, your next meal.
American concerns😂😂
People who lived under Tito know that it was the best period and not taking sides but being neutral, everyone who was willing to work had a decent life, unlike now in Serbia and world where you have huge gap between poor and rich. People like you who know nothing about that period (which you showed saying in Titos time Serbia was on Russians side) should better educate themselves before trying to be a smarta**. Tito was a splinter in the eyes of super powers because he refused to pick sides rather he brought people together from different religions and ethnicities made it work, people lived, worked and laughed together and nobody was asking where is who from. That is just a proof that it is possible for people to get along, unlike now atm in the balkans and the rest of the world. Biggest problem is for this situation and the most of them in the world is that 99% of countries are forced to pick sides instead of everyone trying to be on the same one and improve relationships and humanity.
Life was better under Tito, because he borrowed an utterly unsustainable amount of money to fund the Yugoslav economy. Part of the reason why the country collapsed, was because of his fiscal irresponsibility.
Tito was able to keep the good times rolling through exorbitant IMF loans and that was enough to mostly suppress the long-simmering ethnic tensions, but as soon as he died, the house of cards came tumbling down.
yugoslavia would still exist is serbs didnt take it upon themselves to create a deluded view of them being the south slavic master race and that they should dictate what their brother slavs should or shouldnt do. The whole issue stems from the idea of "greater serbia" and the fact that they stopped listening to their brothers concerns after tito died. People say the economy this or that russia in the mid 90s had a terrible economy and didnt collapse along republic lines. Serbs delude themselves that it was some grand nato conspriacy thinking they are all important but the reality is nato didnt care until ethnic cleansing started to happen and fear spill over in nato states
@@TheCrimsonS4ge You just explain current situation in Europe, buy peace and good life with printing money for decades, but payday coming now.Honestly its how this world work, history is repeat every time and every Empire fall in time. :)

Because China and Russia fund agents to disrupt peaceful democratic processes. This is the KGB and Slavic method since the Cold War.
Why would NATO have jurisdiction in Kosovo? I mean, Kosovo isn't even a member of NATO. So which NATO member country was attacked to warrant a military response like this?
UN resolution 1244 gives them the right to be there. That resolution also says that Kosovo is part of Serbia. But Americans can pick and choose which rules to abide by and which not.
@@petarjovanovic1481 Well that's not part of NATO's charter. It is a mutual defensive alliance. Not an offensive military force.
@@LA_Commander The US gave EU a choice, stop the war in the balkans as part of Nato, or the US would do it alone. The EU are chickens, so they chose to stop the war together with the US as part of Nato, instead of looking like impotent imbeciles while ethnic clensing is being committed inside Europe.
@@LA_Commander Oh. Get a brain 🧠
I cant stand the naive comments "oh why do they fight". Whatever country whoever writes that stuff is from, should consider the implication of having a minority in his country gather up somewhere and decide to carve a chunk for itself, including the place where the person who wrote that lives. Go to bed in your own country, wake up as a dispised minority in randomland.
Could it be possible that amongst the minority groups Russia could have inserted agitators to stir up the conflict and destabilise the region?
Serbia has been sending people to settle in the North of Kosovo. Serbs from Serbia, Bosnia, and other countries are encouraged to come to North Mitrovica and settle there they are so desperate to have Serbs settle there that all the apartments there are free and subsidized while Albanians who live there are threatened by the local Serb government to leave. Even if North Kosovo is under Kosovo’s administration the local Serb party Serbian List has actual control of North Kosovo and the Serbian government backs them and they in turn take orders from Belgrade. The Serbian List party is the only party responsible for these riots in Kosovo. If you see any documentaries about North Kosovo you can see it’s controlled by the Serbian mafia and is way more dangerous than the rest of Kosovo which is not under their administration.

@Jack Dunn As just comment
Hi mister 👋
@Jack Dunn No you not for England you are for Nacist Itali and Germany 😂
SVR? When you have an election and you don't go...
Just because you are the majority in parts of a country, you are still bound to the country’s laws and you don’t get special treatment. All citizens are treated the same. The problem here is that Serbs don’t recognize their own country Kosovo and wish the north of Kosovo to be part of Serbia. This will never happen again as it did it in the 90’s when Serbs committed mass murder and genocide all over Ex-Yugoslavia including the Kosovo territory, which is what led to Kosovo’s independence in the first place.
Kosovo is Serbia and serbian and will always be - thanks GOD!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@natasaradivojevic1030 i just looked it up just to be sure and Kosovo is an independent nation. That was the result of Serbia’s mass murder and genocide committed against its, then citizens, when Kosovo was part of Serbia. Perhaps next time you have conflict within Serbia, try to resolve it without killing your population.
Who says Kosovo is a country? The United Nations? If no, you are not a country, so Serbs in the North are right.
@@masg9122 101 countries have recognized Kosovo so far, that is 52% of the UN-member states. I think that is enough for Kosovo to be a country.
@@Isoweb1000 No, it's not enough. Regions are a state only if they have full membership in the UN. Palestine is not a state. Taiwan is not a state. Kosovo is not a state.
I think it's intensly dumb to say Kosovo is Serbia, when if you go into Kosovo and you ask people what's their most hated country, 80% of them say Serbia
If you go to Nagorno-Karabakh 99% of the people say they hate Azerbaijan. Does that mean that area isn't a part of Azerbaijan?
@@nervachadikus if those people ever were to declare independence then I would support it
@@cowpark8381 Those people declared independence over 30 years ago that's why there's still a war being fought between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
it looks like the zerbs have a lot of time on their hands if they are here protesting instead of being at work.
Everyone needs to calm down and try dialogue
Balkans aren't developed enough for that, violence and grandstanding are their only languages. Europe would be better if we could send everyone in the balkans somewhere else, maybe Israel or China.
Why didn't NATO "help" Catalonia to be separated from Spain? Or "help" Syria to take back Golan Heights from Israel?

Kurti and Vucic are friends, all politicians in the Balkans are one team, Kurti gave his buses to Vucic to bring Serbs from Kosovo to Belgrade for Vucic's biggest rally. Only old women and children remained in Kosaovo. During the rally in Belgrade, Albanians broke the doors of municipalities and forcibly entered and occupied Serbian institutions.
