Solid as always! I’m hoping Neewer sends you its new round body style Q200 for a test before you (eventually) get rid of your AD 300 again. They’re advertising the flash as on sale but the only reviews I’ve seen are for the Q3, which is an AD 200 copy.

Thanks Markus - you have confirmed what I have long suspected since i own all of the Godox line and have gravitated toward AD100s for their portability, flexibility (using all the round attachments and profoto fresnels!), price and relative power. I only use my AD300s in my quick flip soft boxes. And not seen in a long time on your channel, my AD360 II’s still get love on my boom pole and stroboframe pro bracket when the venue or shoot style call for them!
Man you’re great! Thanks for putting this together. I have 2 AD300 Pros that I use at the studio with my 3 AD 600 ‘s. For location work I bring the 300 Pro’s and some flashes. I’d love to have a very light location kit with 3-4 AD 100s and those great popup modifiers made by Angler and some lightweight stands and keep the heavier shit in my studio!
Hi Markus! Great content as always! Try the ad300 without the frosty reflector - protector which is on top of the bulb. Maybe then the results will be different...
Great question! I did . You'd think it would be better, but what's even more surprising is the results are actually worse! Its one tenth of a stop less bright when I removed the frosted cover, same results with all 3 reflectors!
Thank you for this helpful video Markus! After 20 years shooting with various Elinchroms (which I still love) I am hunting for small size battery flashes because some jibs are simple & fast and I am becoming lazy to carry heads + battery unit + cables. And I am not willing to pay extra money for the brand anymore - so after I gave enough time to Chinese factories to learn (and they really did) I am open now to step out of my habits :) AD 100 seems to be amazing - but what I miss in your battery flashes comparison is the battery capacity - and this info would be extra helpful. How many shots in full power gives you AD 100 and Q4? Especialy AD 100 size means small battery :) Can you shoot with AD100 while it is charging? Can you feed it from extra power bank? Are their batteries replacable when they degrade too much? Many thanx again, you do great job 👏👏👏
Neewer seriously needs more recognition, they’re a great universal camera company with great bang-for-your-buck deals. The ONE time I was unsatisfied with their product they gave me a refund no questions asked. Wonderful company!
Another informative video. Thanks. I love all my Godox. Didn’t know about the 100 vs 300 comparison. Totally sold me, until I want to reach for a Godox softbox that attaches to 300 and 400. For hard light, will probably be a couple more fresnel lenses for 100. Thanks
Another great video Markus! Thank you for sharing. BTW, the Elinchrom One and Three have a similar bulb design as that Neewer Q300. Elinchrom advertised their One (131Ws) just as powerful as the B10 with the OCF Magnum. Might be worth a check.
Yes I just tested an Elinchrom 3. The light output was actually less than an AD100 at full power! I was shocked. Nice interface, sounds, etc, but pretty big and heavy for only being 261ws.
@@MarkusPixinteresting to hear. I think that would cover the majority of the portable strobe category. Thank you. Also it might be interesting for you. I recently got a Leekai LK-51Pro, a super compact, lightweight and quick to deploy lightstand that can handle my AD300 with ease. Only available in China.
Nice tests as always! But let’s get practical: The AD300 isn’t just brighter with the SMDV softbox; it also fills the front diffuser more effectively, resulting in softer light. The same goes for the AD200. There’s a specific SMDV adapter for the AD200 bare bulb, which requires a firm push-sometimes involving a bit of rubber tearing-to fully fit and properly illuminate the softbox. Without a softbox, the AD100 performs excellently, and I often use four of them as ambient fills indoors and for accents or FX. In fact, for indoor shots, AD100s/V1 are my main tools. I even use two V350s as accent lights indoors because they’re so lightweight, and two MF12s as rim lights. Outdoors, though, I’m a bit skeptical. For me, outdoor lighting usually starts at the AD200 level since I need a softbox as a key light outside. SMDV softboxes are optimized for the AD100, but if I want to use a different softbox, the AD100 isn’t quite suitable. I often use the AD100 with a 120cm white umbrella indoors, but that setup isn’t realistic outdoors-the umbrella would likely break. Indoors, you can even bounce light off the ceiling for a key light, but unfortunately, there’s no ceiling outdoors. And I’ll say this again: the AD300’s default reflector is more of a bulb protector, so running power tests with it isn’t entirely fair. As for Profoto... well, it’s just not worth the money for me. But the Magnum clic reflector/fresnel are cool, and I wish Godox offered a similar, more affordable options. SMDV reflectors require an adapter, so they end up being a bit too clunky for my setup. And thank you for highlighting the value of Neewer lights!
The SMDV is double diffusion. Here are several shoots I did with AD100 in softboxes outdoors ruclips.net/video/yxwJRoD2u1U/видео.html ruclips.net/video/2Vg-WYMlqWk/видео.html but of course they were full power, but it is possible.
@@MarkusPix SMDV is more than just a double-diffusion softbox; it features a thoughtfully designed inner diffuser placement with large gaps on the outer ring, which helps balance the hotspot created by the AD100's fresnel head. However, a central hotspot still becomes easily visible at f/22. This can be somewhat mitigated with an AK-R11 dome, but it costs about a stop of light. When using the AD200 and AD300 with the SMDV softbox, you can achieve bright edges and a soft center, resulting in overall softer light and more gradual shadow terminators. You might call me a light snob, but I can definitely spot the difference! With the Godox S85/120T, the AD300 provides a perfectly illuminated front diffuser(so I think, we can get fewer highlights compared to the SMDV with the AD300, which creates a bright-edge, beauty-dish-like effect.). However, these things are heavier compared to SMDV. Not so portable and much slower to set up.
Thank you so much, Markus! This is a super in-depth comparison. Would you also be able to compare t.1 times for each of these as well? For me, freezing motion is just as important as getting the most light for my strobes.
Hey Markus, very informative video as always. Saving us from overspending. Do you have any insights in how these flashes compare in regards to firing off multiple shots in quick succesion. Let's say you have to shoot multiple people very quickly right after one another. Or if you have to react quick while shooting events. The generally cheaper or older equipment I've used so far often lets me down by not firing consistantly after one or two shots.
Thank you for the great information on your videos about cameras. I'm just starting making videos and at the moment use a Gopro for tripod, but I am looking for a better camera. You have lot of really helpful information on your channel. Have you used a Sony a7S II, they seem to be good and I can buy a used one.
Hey Markus, I wonder how the Neewer Q300 performs through a softbox. Would love to see a Q300 dedicated video. Seems like a super value and seeing it put through various paces would be awesome. Great video by the way.
Great info as always.....what about recycle times?.......if say at a fashion show with quick fire flashing would the AD300 not perform better overall than an AD100?.......I have them all and love the 100's for portability.
Great video, packed with useful information. If you fired off all o the flashes you have at the same time, they would see it on the space station and the cities grid would brown out LOL
Out of curiosity, I took out my ad100 and ad300 for testing too. I set my camera to manual and both flashes to maximum power. I faced both flashes towards the ceiling. I then intentionally set my camera settings for an underexposed base shot then took test shots of the entire room with each flash. The ad300 being a more powerful flash always lit the entire room to the point of overexposure whereas the ad100 just looked properly exposed. I did this several times with similar results. I think therefore the ad300 in my opinion is a stronger flash than the ad100.
1. Use a light meter. 2. Sounds like you weren't aware of the 28 or 85mm setting on the 100. Like I said, the 300 is better for architectural photography, while the 100 is more suited to portraits.
Markus as usual your videos are top notch. Do you think you can give some pointers on how to get in touch and persuade or even collaborate with producers. What i mean is i have several ideas for making TV shows or even movies but I don't have the power to do it myself and really wish I could collaborate with someone. I once seen in one of your videos where you talk about your career that you said that if you believe in something and that something is great you can get others to follow along . would love to hear your tips and thoughts
Even though the Neewer is now on sale for $215 with a trigger, I own many Godox flashes. Unfortunately, each brand uses its own wireless flash trigger, and they aren't compatible with each other. A Universal Flash Trigger would be a valuable addition.
Yes I have the same problem with clothes. Do I wear casual pants with shirt hanging over, or dress pants with shirt tucked in. It's either or, but cant have both
It is difficult to recommend anything else than AD100 for beginners and anyone who needs to be on mobile. If going for softboxes in studio, gamefield is different. But AD100 hits well above price, size, weight and power it is challenged for. Well done Godox. I have AD200's and now wondering should I upgrade to the "Pro II" model that would have the LED modeling light with bulb head. As sometimes in studio it is very nice to be able get the better idea how to position the flash without taking few test shots first. But it really is not so big deal as I do not shoot anymore film or polaroids and waste money and time via that way. The AD200 works great when you need those softboxes and need to be mobile. So pairing AD100 and AD200 is really something. I have in storage a old large format flashes. It has power pack that can power three flashes, but all at same power, so no individual channel/cable control. But you do that with moving lights distance. But unusable as they are too powerful. I needed f/32 and 2 stops ND filter to get a acceptable exposure for face from 1 meter distance of the subject to the softbox surface (1 meter diameter) when the power was for one flash and at minimum. The power can be adjusted only in nine levels, and IIRC is 3 stops between lowest and highest, so 1/3 stops per click (it has big black knob to select from 1 to 9). But oh boy were those nice when doing large group photo shoots, like a 200 people in the frame. All three flashes evenly distributed to front of the people in that 20-25 meter wide group and.... Didn't need anything else. That is the reason I hang on those even today, even when I don't ever need those anymore.
Can you try removing the glass on the AD300 as a test of it's clean output with and without those reflectors. I just wish the AD100s used the same battery as the AD200 and AD300.
Great video! Would you find a way to attach ad 100 to a camera for wedding and events. I saw people walk with monopod in their other hand, but it’s not convenient and it’s bad for videographers.
Interesting test, as I own both the AD200 Pro and the AD300 Pro. I did not get at what power are you testing the flashes. Are they been tested at full power?
@MarkusPix Thank you for clarifying. I want to buy another flash, but I'm a bit unsure. I own a Godox AD300 and 2x Godox AD200 Pro. I was about to buy another 300, but maybe I will get the new AD200 Pro II instead.
Informative so thanks! Just curious about your thoughts on the Leofoto reflector. I searched your profile but nothing comes up about it. Have you done a review on it?
You need to watch more of my videos. I've done numerous videos about it ruclips.net/video/AYB_4LYhezs/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/L6VpoYlFoZU/видео.html
Hola, excelente video. Me recomiendas un GODOX AD100 Pro. actualmente tengo un Godox AD200 Pro. Queria comprarme un Godox AD300 Pro. Pero por lo que vi tengo mis dudas.
One more plus for AD200: I have a running "habit" of falling down lightstands due to wind or overlook, yet no flash has been harmed - "horned" protectors make AD200s jump and hop around on pavements or asphalt like cute balls. No light was damaged this way so far. No other light mentioned here seems to have similar silicone attachments, so I would probably need to replace them almost instantly. Edit: there are bumpers for XPLOR 100 and 300, which are rebrands of AD100 and AD300 respectively, I highly recommend them for outdoor shooters with a bit too much spontaneity for their gear to handle.
as someone who likes to hike or beach to photograph i never take my ad300s unless i absolutely know im going to use them. they are too heavy and take up too much space. but seeing how the ad100 outperform them. i might have to re evaluate and get some of them in place of my ad300s.
Hi Marcus ! Thanks for your informative video’s. One thing is the output, but what about the quality and concinstasy of the light. I have a couple og Canon speedlights and a godox ad 600 pro, which I use in stable color mode. I find the godox is giving me a much more pleasing look, than the Canon . I find the Canon is much more blue and hard looking. I have tried to compensate by moving the interval color slider from blue to red, which gives me a much more pleasing look. The godox however looks better. Is there any difference with the lights in this video ? It could be interesting, as you have testing all of them! Thanks 🏅🏅🏅🏅⛱️
These all look good. I've posted many videos showing photoshoots with the AD100, 200, 600. The Profoto definitely doesn't look better and the Neewer looks good so far, I haven't done any shoots yet with them but you can see the color and look in the test shots on the white wall ruclips.net/video/L6VpoYlFoZU/видео.html
Doesn't look like it's much different than the VX1 (which I don't like). They say it's supposed to have better low light capabilities, but with a tiny 1/2.5" sensor, I would guess its just software enhancement. I'm definitely not running out to get one
Thanks Markus! I have the AD300 but going to pick up the AD100 instead to save the weight! What's the power difference with the AD100 in the 24/28 vs the 32 inch quick setup soft box? Is there much in it?
The bigger the light source, the softer and more flattering the portraits. The 32 isn't that much bigger when collapsed. I think 32-36 is the perfect portable softbox size.
Markus, How do you store all your Ad100's and AD200's? Do you have a special case you bought? I have one of each and the cases they come in are great but I would like to store them all together and get more AD100's. Also where do you buy your fresnel attachment for the AD100 and diffused reflector for the AD200? Thank you!
Markus, give the Godox AD-R11 7" reflector and diffuser a try for the AD300 Pro... light quality is already better or same without diffuser than AD-R14 with diffuser... and brighter
@@MarkusPix I found and went for this AD-R11 because of your AD300 clip with the custom refelctor... it is same with native Godox mount... not available in Europe and US... so Ali sent me two plus the diffusers from Ad600. 🙏 Dankeschön!
You outed the Watt.seconds trap. Ws are a unit of energy consumption and not light output. That this can happen, what you unveil, is no surprise, but was already a theme in photography school in 1970. I would have loved to see the ~new 200Pro as well, by the way. Nevertheless, thank you for this video.
Yeah men are so obsessed with numbers like horsepower, size, speed, brightness, loudness and price. Like a macho guy at a stoplight with an 800 hp car feeling all cocky.... until a motorcyle shows up 😅
Some of those flashes look like they’re using cob leds. How are you finding the transition from bulbs like the ad200 to the new led versions. Better battery life, more power, color temperature, flicker?
what are you thoughts with 2 AD200's in the AD-B2? One of the reasons I picked 2 Ad200's over the AD400 was the versatility though its kinda awkward with everything mounted up there.
Not a big fan of the ADB2. I have it but never use it. The weight of the ADB2 and two AD200s together is pretty hefty, might as well get a 400 or 600. One 200 is actually pretty good by itself in a modifier even in bright sunlight ruclips.net/video/WeFt5FkWXfU/видео.html If I use 2 AD100s, I would much rather split them up from different directions using ADS2, filling in shadows and giving same output as AD600 ruclips.net/video/L6VpoYlFoZU/видео.html
Is the AD300 just designed for faster flash reset? Or better with heat? I struggle to understand. Getting a Neewer now! Q4 is tempting. I broke my prophoto and sorta glad I did😅
@MarkusPix you speak the truth! I try to always buy stuff that's going to last a long time and usually it pans out pretty good. Then I run into some brands that are just overrated. I have learned that flashes are expendable!
You would think but that's not true. Its considerably bigger and heavier. The length is what makes it not fit as well and the weight is almost double that of a 100. You could never fit a 200 in this kit ruclips.net/video/7HYD9r1ZeAs/видео.html Here is a bag where I have 3 AD 100's ruclips.net/video/5bJQVHnH2po/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/o8bdbLW2gAs/видео.html
@@MarkusPix Not the One, The Three, it's a 261Ws unit and tests have shown that it is more than that. No separate power supply, uses UBS C charging and the battery lasts over 500 full flashes. I got it for 700$. Very reliable, takes Profoto and Elinchrom modifiers, has an external flash tube and it's made in Switzerland, not China ;-)😄
Note: The Neewer Q300 does not have HSS or TTL. I do not use HSS much and never use TTL (I always shoot manual for full control).
Here are several shoots I did with AD100 in softboxes outdoors
ruclips.net/video/yxwJRoD2u1U/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/2Vg-WYMlqWk/видео.html
but of course they were full power, but it is possible.
Great Video! I'm going to have to pick up a few of those ad100's
Thank you so much, Markus! This is a super in-depth comparison. Would you also be able to compare t.1 times for each of these as well? For me, freezing motion is just as important as getting the most light for my strobes.
Great comparison, this is why I use AD100 and 600
Thank You Master !!! This is so informative . Especially for me! Thank you once again
Very illuminating vid 👍 well done thanks ✌️🤙
Hey Markus, I wonder how the Neewer Q300 performs through a softbox. Would love to see a Q300 dedicated video. Seems like a super value and seeing it put through various paces would be awesome. Great video by the way.
Love these comparisons.
Do you have a video about the light meter you use and what the numbers mean?
Appreciate it.
Great info as always.....what about recycle times?.......if say at a fashion show with quick fire flashing would the AD300 not perform better overall than an AD100?.......I have them all and love the 100's for portability.
I love the 100, inexpensive, powerful and portable!!! And the sync can do three of them!!!
Great comparison 👍
if in regards to color accuracy for archival reproduction would there be a big difference ?
Thanks & have a great day
I love the ad200 and 600
Dropping the ka-nowledge bombs as usual 👌I just ordered an AD100pro after watching this 😄
And. it helps to have a beautiful model, Mr. Lucky! hehe
Great video, packed with useful information. If you fired off all o the flashes you have at the same time, they would see it on the space station and the cities grid would brown out LOL
😅
Thank you Markus! Interesting comparison in a practical way of using.
What about a speedlite, like the godox v1?
Have you ever tried something?
The AD100 is twice as bright, smaller and more fun ruclips.net/video/o8bdbLW2gAs/видео.html
@MarkusPix thank you markus
Awesome video as always 👌🏿
You are hacking my flashworld, thank you! =)
Great informative review. Thank You
Out of curiosity, I took out my ad100 and ad300 for testing too.
It's either or, but cant have both
Danke Herr Markus. Sehr Schoen und schnell
You should try some of the magmod light diffusion and see what the power is.
Diffusors spread the light energy to a larger area. Therefore the more focused AD100 shows a higher light output at the meter.
there are also some factors as color consistancy and possibility to make like 10-20 flashes burst without issues
People like to say that but I've never had issues with Godox. The colors always look the same.
You are the best!Sr!! thank you!!!
SMALLER, MORE COMPACT and As
EFFICIENT AS LARGER.
Thanks Marcus
Hello Markus, thanks for the video. What settings did you use for the Sekonic for the tests?
1/60 100 8ft
Great video! Would you find a way to attach ad 100 to a camera for wedding and events. I saw people walk with monopod in their other hand, but it’s not convenient and it’s bad for videographers.
ruclips.net/video/VZQM3EJ8IXc/видео.html
Interesting test, as I own both the AD200 Pro and the AD300 Pro. I did not get at what power are you testing the flashes. Are they been tested at full power?
Yes full power, 8 ft non-HSS is about 2/10ths of a stop more than HSS
@MarkusPix Thank you for clarifying. I want to buy another flash, but I'm a bit unsure. I own a Godox AD300 and 2x Godox AD200 Pro. I was about to buy another 300, but maybe I will get the new AD200 Pro II instead.
definitely get a 200! Or even a 100 ruclips.net/video/2C_M2Edg9OE/видео.html
What about the actual quality of the light from the B10X? and the Ad100? is it a better light?
Both are good. The B10X shots are no better looking.
Informative so thanks! Just curious about your thoughts on the Leofoto reflector. I searched your profile but nothing comes up about it. Have you done a review on it?
You need to watch more of my videos. I've done numerous videos about it
ruclips.net/video/AYB_4LYhezs/видео.html and
ruclips.net/video/L6VpoYlFoZU/видео.html
@@MarkusPix thanks kindly! Watching both now. I appreciate your help.
Make speedlite flash comparison too.❤❤❤
Hola, excelente video. Me recomiendas un GODOX AD100 Pro. actualmente tengo un Godox AD200 Pro. Queria comprarme un Godox AD300 Pro. Pero por lo que vi tengo mis dudas.
Recomiendo otros 200 o 100 ruclips.net/video/L6VpoYlFoZU/видео.html
Always weight them down when outside ruclips.net/video/hz89VIMQZDY/видео.html
@@MarkusPix with the weights I have at my disposal, I still lose so many times...
The video everyone was wishing for
as someone who likes to hike or beach to photograph i never take my ad300s unless i absolutely know im going to use them. they are too heavy and take up too much space. but seeing how the ad100 outperform them. i might have to re evaluate and get some of them in place of my ad300s.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi Markus, have you seen the new panasonic 4k camcorder hc-vx3 ?
If yes, are you gonna review him ?
Big shout out from France !
Doesn't look like it's much different than the VX1 (which I don't like). They say it's supposed to have better low light capabilities, but with a tiny 1/2.5" sensor, I would guess its just software enhancement. I'm definitely not running out to get one
Business idea - Someone (maybe you!) needs to bring a Fresnel mount for the ADS2.
Markus,
How do you store all your Ad100's and AD200's? Do you have a special case you bought?
I have one of each and the cases they come in are great but I would like to store them all together and get more AD100's.
Also where do you buy your fresnel attachment for the AD100 and diffused reflector for the AD200?
Thank you!
AD100 fresnel amzn.to/3YWDQ6w
AD200 reflector amzn.to/4hB1sVF
This is where I store them ruclips.net/video/QoClhx6QG4A/видео.html
@@MarkusPix Thank you sir!
Seems like the Neewer Q4 is the way to go
Are you going to review the new Panasonic camcorders?
You mean the VX3? No diff than VX1 except some software to enhance low light shots on that tiny 1/2.5 sensor
How about colour rendition? Will the Neewer give the exact same colour temp flash after flash?
Markus, give the Godox AD-R11 7" reflector and diffuser a try for the AD300 Pro... light quality is already better or same without diffuser than AD-R14 with diffuser... and brighter
Yeah the 14 doesn't do much
@@MarkusPix I found and went for this AD-R11 because of your AD300 clip with the custom refelctor... it is same with native Godox mount... not available in Europe and US... so Ali sent me two plus the diffusers from Ad600. 🙏 Dankeschön!
Thanks
Welcome
Making my life so much easier 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
does Godox trigger work with combination of lights (Ad400 + Q300) type lighting
Godox only works with Godox, not Neewer.
you can link to the Fresnel lens for the AD100
I did. It's in the description box

I hate the new ones. Nothing beats the original bare bulb
I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the new neewer q200. It looks like a cross between the ad100 and ad200.
I didn't get it because its comparable to the AD200 but doesn't have a bare bulb which is what makes the AD200 so fantastic. Plus the Q200 is bigger.
what are you thoughts with 2 AD200's in the AD-B2?
I’m curious of the difference between ad100 and ad300 with a softbox

What is the Fresnel used in the AD100? thank you
amzn.to/48CYICQ
Is there a less expensive fresnel head other than the Profoto one for the AD100?
no
Is the AD300 just designed for faster flash reset? Or better with heat? I struggle to understand. Getting a Neewer now! Q4 is tempting. I broke my prophoto and sorta glad I did😅
Funny- people think Profotos are built out of superhero material, they break like every other flash lol.
@MarkusPix you speak the truth! I try to always buy stuff that's going to last a long time and usually it pans out pretty good. Then I run into some brands that are just overrated. I have learned that flashes are expendable!
The AD200 is also easier to pack multiple lights in a small bag as it’s not round.
You would think but that's not true. Its considerably bigger and heavier. The length is what makes it not fit as well and the weight is almost double that of a 100. You could never fit a 200 in this kit ruclips.net/video/7HYD9r1ZeAs/видео.html

How about the Elinchrom Three as a comparison? Very dependable and 1/3 the price of Profoto... but the same size.
A 131ws flash for 900 dollars?? and the bigger one needs a cord and separate power supply? Where's the joy in that? 🤔
Ok, I will get one and check it out! Thank you.
