For the cone trees it might be helpful to just drill a short hole in the bottom of the cones and fit the point of the next cone into it. May save a bit of sanding
I love your DIY they don't look like school children crafts. Want more. How about a table scape ideas that are not too modern but more of an upscale traditional.
Instead of sanding the tops of those little trees you could drill a hole in the bottom of the tree and stick the point of the other tree in that, securing with wood glue, or hot glue
