I've had my SE DGT Gold Top for a few days now and it's proved even better than I dared hope. The set-up was spot-on straight from the gig-bag, and the neck shape is perfect for me. Back in 92, I went to the local music studio to jam with friends, and one friend invited their friend. He came in with a blue PRS. It was the most beautiful guitar I've seen up to that point. I had a cheap Jackson, at the time. Since then, I always wanted one. I'm so glad they made the SE line. I have two SE's (Custom 22 and McCarty 594), a Silver Sky (core) and a Dustie Waring CE. Yea that sucks. I went through 2 prs se starla models before I got one that functioned properly. The bridge pickup kept shorting out after being put in single coil mode...., but 3rd time is a charm. Overall great guitar.
This is exactly why I never buy a guitar I haven't previously played in a shop. Buying from the internet for something like a guitar, which can vary so much in tone and character even if QC is good is always a lottery.

Hi BMR, It's a lovely colour, it really suits your personality, fashion and your playing style. I'm so glad you love it and that you have found 💓 your dream 😍 Guitar 🎸. Best regards. John.
I've waited 20 years for PRS to 1 make a guitar that 'speaks for me" 2 didn't make me feel like a poser... This is that guitar I ordered one before they were available as I'm a huge fann of DG and that Texas tone
Yeah! I know what you mean. Sometimes a PRS guitar looks "too pretty" for my taste. But I love this one. The gold top and moon inlays really ground it just enough.
That pretty much sums up my feelings too. While I've admired PRS guitars, they've never "spoken" to me and a lot of them are just far too ornate for my taste - but then I saw the SE DGT Gold Top and knew instantly that I had to have one! The waiting list is pretty massive in Europe - I ordered mine in early February and the latest update for delivery is late September. It's great to see this fresh review of it - it makes me confident that it'll be more than worth the wait! 😎
But owning a PRS IS about having something prettier than a STD Les Paul or a STD American strat. PRS ownership is ALL about standing out from the crowd. And this new PRS SE DGT model/s certainly does not! Its made to look basic, just like another std Gibson/Fender model clone. (US DGT models fair better!)
I ordered one, and it's a great sounding guitar. I sent it back, the neck profile was not to my liking it's a little fat at the 12th fret, I have small hands and the neck was just to thick. Before you buy one go to a guitar shop and try one out, it might be for you, just not for me.
My DGT SE arrived at my house on Jan 13th. It joined my Core 1993 CU24 10 Top, a 2016 CE24 , SE CU24-08. The DGT is a killer instrument. Everything you stated in your video nailed exactly what I have experienced with mine. I like the tone better than my Core.
thank you for watching! This is really an amazing guitar. Ever since I published this video, I keep thinking about this guitar. I'm definitely going to have to get one.
@@JoonKimDMD Different pickups made to David Grissom's specs. It has McCarty switching instead of the 5 way rotary. Tone is subjective. Just because a guitar is a Core doesn't necessarily make it better.
It's made in my country. Maybe it's cheap for a PRS guitar, but it's still not cheap enough for a beginner 😂 Will see if PRS can make an affordable beginner guitar
It seems to be an excellent guitar, but I don't understand how it is a good value for the money because a guitar made in Japan, regardless of the brand, will likely be of equally good or even better quality. So is it really worth it, except if you really want the brand name? And I'm talking about guitars that are made in Japan, not necessarily Japanese brands, it could also be Fender. Maybe it's because you all live in the USA? Where I live, guitars made in Japan are much cheaper than US models and of better quality too. If anyone knows more about this, I'm curious. Or maybe I’m missing something about that guitar , you tell me
Japanese-made guitars are exceptional. They're really on par with the best quality guitars in the world. But they're also not cheap in the USA. I doubt Japan would be able to make a high quality guitar for the US market at this price. (I could be wrong). I do think one of the appeals is the brand, but also the PRS guitar has a few things about it that make it different than other guitar brands. I do love Japanese guitars, though.
These guitars are made in Indonesia in a factory PRS built and Cor-tek manufactures them in. For instance, this guitar ( PRS DGT) made in America is usually around $4500 dollars. The one you see on screen is $850. The quality of the guitar is just as good on the SE models as their American counterpart. Most of the cost of a guitar comes from the labor in building it. And of course, on the SE guitars, you have parts made in Indonesia so the cost is cheaper. But, this isn't to say the quality suffers. The import guitars still come through the American factory to be checked, before they send them out to stores. All the vigorous quality checks are still there. The machines and the process of making it is the same. The skills of the workers are the same. What's really important on a guitar is how it feels, plays and sounds. If you desire all the bells and whistles, then you buy the American version. You'll get a work of art of a guitar. If that doesn't matter to you, they offer the SE versions. They are beautiful, as well. They are all great guitars. Listen to the guitar on the video. It sounds so sweet. So, you certainly get a great instrument for a more affordable price. Considering how much an American PRS core guitar costs, the SE line is a steal for what you get. PRS is also one of the few guitar companies producing consistent quality instruments. They may not be for everyone, but no one will ever say PRS lacks quality, even the SE line.
@@BeastMadeReviews There's definitely a difference in prices of guitars made in Japan compared in different countries , that would explain why all this . That being said it's best to play with what you already have. I've had in my hands several guitars made in Mexico and I've realized how sufficient they are for most people, including professional musicians. What's important is to have a well-set-up instrument and to practice on it consistently. I have a Mexican-made Charvel guitar at home, along with other guitars, and I find myself playing it the most.
@@alexdenton6586 well, that was my point. The country of origin shouldn't matter. A good guitar can come from anywhere. Buying American doesn't mean it's automatically better. People pay more to have a name on the headstock, which allows companies to charge much more, like Gibson or Fender. But, when it comes to PRS, their American guitars are some of the best in the world, especially the "Private Stock" guitars. It comes with a heavy price, but you are getting the very best of everything, including the most exotic wood. Do you need that to have a great guitar? Of course not.
Great coverage though playing covers doesn't do this justice when we're used to hearing those songs one way and this guitar isn't even coming close to those sounds.
Amazing guitar love mine. But the thing about how simmilar they are to core is not true for the Silver Sky at all. I had the SE but sold it to get the Core massive difference even if all youtubers clamed that the where 99% identical.....the number is more like 15%
Wow Dave!!!! You see watching RUclips videos on how to learn how to play guitar does work! 😂😂. Great playing, Dave! I myself own a '66 fender strat I once in a while pull out of the closet. Could probably get a pretty penny for it, but it's the only thing my dad left behind when I was a teen. But I would sure love to have a PRS one day. Love your vids, Daver.
Hahaha man, all this time I’ve been subbed to Fragrance Bros and didn’t know you had a side channel! That said, if there was any PRS guitar I would ever buy in the future, it would be a Core DGT. I’m so glad PRS made an SE version to an awesome guitar, can’t wait to try one some time. Rock on, Dave!!!
Well the "fit and finish" isn't perfect on the one I recently purchased brand new online. The nut is short of width which leaves the right end as you look front on at it very sharp to the touch, and there are a few frets (18-19) that are jagged and not smoothly polished off. No way was my guitar qc'd, otherwise the inspector would have rejected such shoddy workmanship. You expect much more from prs, especially as they make such a song and dance about how every guitar of theirs is finely inspected (even the se models). My advice is: if you can test this guitar out in shop and if its up to speed then buy it,and take every guitar channels praise with a pinch of salt.
You shoulda kept the Demo model. I reckon demand is going to outpace supply. I joined the SE DGT club this week and I'm loving it. I already have a Gibson SG, and I love that too, but this PRS does things that my SG can't.
Lots of quality control problems with my last 2 SE purchases (DGT and Piezo II) - when will reviewers realise that the ones lent to them by PRS are hand picked set up specially !!!! - Love the guitars but my advice is buy one you can play and inspect properly . Happy picking !
Had 2 of them and within a years time the necks twisted on both of them. Mass produced built out of green wood. Other than that it's a good guitar for the price.
@@idontgrillonwed Talking about PRS guitars in general. I've seen other major issues with them in the past also. Maybe they've improved. Still wouldn't buy another one.
@@keithclark486It happens dude…I bought a beautiful Gibson dbl cut transparent blue Les Paul and realized after 2 days that the neck was twisted.. Of all the PRS’s Ive played (and own) Ive never seen a twisted neck…Are you sure you know what your talking about…how long have you been playing?
Ya I have 6 prs guitars and none are twisted - and they are not made of green wood , as well the drying process is state of the art and to extreme high standards …
@@BeastMadeReviews yeah I've always known them as a purists guitar, for someone that is especially tuned into the tonality of instruments (because obvious PRS are that good). Mr Muso himself Steven Wilson is a famous PRS guy. Just my opinion ofcourse. I love and appreciate them, that said Telecasters have always been my favourite.
@@frankbrach4920 no disrespect to PRS but I suppose it does conjure negative connotations, a muso is someone who is a very studied player, as much interested in technique and perfect sound as they are music content and emotional connection. A 'muso' is to playing, as 'audiophile' is to listening.
PRS DGT US CORE is way better than Indonesian made SE. Putting DGT's name is just a marketing ploy. How many times did DGT use his Indonesian made SE??? Yeah, I thought so. And, yes, it's way cheaper. I own the US Core; worth every penny. (P.S. And this goes for all SE's. Grab the US Core or if budget is short, the S2; no regrets. Never the Indonesian.)
Honestly, this SE is a fantastic guitar. I haven't played a USA made DGT--I'm sure they're well-worth the cost and are excellent. But the SE is amazing. So much so that I have been thinking about it daily since I mailed it back. I would love to own one.
I have owned two core PRS guitars, one being a 2012 PRS DGT standard(no maple top), a single cut 22 with a one piece maple top, a CE 22, a S2 22 standard and a SE soap bar II. The nicest ones were the DGT and Single cut 22. The CE was nice. The S2 22 was the one I didn’t like at all ( by the way the S2 line uses Indonesia electronics and US made body and necks, so they are hybrid’s.) My SE Soap bar II is a outstanding quality guitar. Fit and finish is great. The pickups are nice sounding and work quite well. About the only thing I can think I MIGHT do is upgrade to Duncan P90’s. The Korean made SE’s are fantastic guitars. Core guitars are very nice, but, people have a hard time coming up with the money. There is no reason to be hard on those that can’t afford the core models…… In other words………. Be nice…..
Yeah many people said the same thing about Japanese guitars in the 80s. Being made in America does not mean its better quality than a guitar made anywhere else in the world. The best Telecaster I've ever played is Japanese. In answer to your question DG has used the SE's live during testing. Maybe your Core is the best guitar for you and that is great, but personally I wouldn't spend £4,000 on any new guitar even though I can afford to do so. This SE makes so much sense for the gigging guitarist.
This sounds like some gatekeepy nonsense and run counter to touring guitarists comments. It’s fine to dislike something but don’t be dishonest or talk out your ass
It’s an artist series. This is what the artist wanted. There’s plenty of other PRS guitars with different finishes. Your comments about PRS ownership are just ignorant tbh
@@StupidGuitar My PRS comments are on point mate. I own 4 PRS guitars. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the multitude of options and colors available on the "artist series" Silver Sky SE......many color combinations the artist would not like. Yeah sure if it was a USA limited edition model. But this one isn't.
Love my upgraded S2...but still dont like any PRS pickups. Never had an import like SE, Squire, or Ephiphone. Always the real thing..usually with SD pickup added.

I appreciate the suggestion and will certainly keep it in mind. Thanks!
Nicely done sir and delighted you liked the SE DGT! #wemakePRS
Thanks again!
Never realized you played guitar, Daver. I know you from the fragrance bros.
The dgt is just classy!
thanks for watching, Ari!
What amp are you playing? Sounds great!
Thank you! I'm going through my Line 6 Helix. I used the GrammaticoLG model. I thought it sounded really good with this guitar. 🙂
Hi BMR, It's a lovely colour, it really suits your personality, fashion and your playing style. I'm so glad you love it and that you have found 💓 your dream 😍 Guitar 🎸. Best regards. John.
I love it!
Great review and songs!
thank you!
Great review man, great job!
thank you!
I've waited 20 years for PRS to
1 make a guitar that 'speaks for me"
2 didn't make me feel like a poser...
This is that guitar
I ordered one before they were available as I'm a huge fann of DG and that Texas tone
@@rowbags3017 thanks for watching! It's such a great guitar. I bet you will love it!
Big Wreck at 10:12?
yep!
I try to put Big Wreck in every guitar video
@@BeastMadeReviews most underrated band ever!
I ordered one, and it's a great sounding guitar. I sent it back, the neck profile was not to my liking it's a little fat at the 12th fret, I have small hands and the neck was just to thick. Before you buy one go to a guitar shop and try one out, it might be for you, just not for me.
fair enough! Thank you for your comment!
The fragrance bros!! Nice review man!
Thanks for watching!
is the neck as thick as a prs se tremonti?
I'm not sure. I haven't played the Tremonti, so I don't know for sure. I've heard this is pretty thick for a PRS, but it's not huge.
How does it sounds without distortion?
I have clean clips in the video
Great video ...appreciate your input.
Lol, fragrance and guitars, not a bad combination. What a surprise when I saw the familiar face :)
Some black chrome top knobs and black pickup rings would make this guitar even better looking
One Paul Reed Smith is ever enough.. They are very addicting..
This line sounds familiar lol.
I'm definitely going to have to get one.
what??? how can it be better than core??
@@JoonKimDMD Different pickups made to David Grissom's specs. It has McCarty switching instead of the 5 way rotary. Tone is subjective. Just because a guitar is a Core doesn't necessarily make it better.
It's made in my country. Maybe it's cheap for a PRS guitar, but it's still not cheap enough for a beginner 😂
Will see if PRS can make an affordable beginner guitar
Go for a used se model
Are you selling this or keeping?
it was a loaner, so I had to send it back.

@@BeastMadeReviews
There's definitely a difference in prices of guitars made in Japan compared in different countries , that would explain why all this .
Probably not many known songs that use a DGT. 😂 They're not supposed to sound like the original song. They're sound samples. Take them as such.
Amazing guitar love mine. But the thing about how simmilar they are to core is not true for the Silver Sky at all. I had the SE but sold it to get the Core massive difference even if all youtubers clamed that the where 99% identical.....the number is more like 15%
I still need to try the Silver Sky! I'm hoping to get some loaned to me later
How are the frets wearing?
It was a loaner, so I had to return it.
But you played it a lot for how long?
@@DavidEidelberg oh I didn't get that much time with it. I think I had it for about 2 weeks, maybe longer.
That's awesome! What a priceless gift. Please never sell that. Amazing! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for watching! Yeah the DGT in any form is top tier!
Ol Larry Lalonde
I agree.
I got my eyes set on the Custom SE 24-08. More versatile.
You shoulda kept the Demo model.
I reckon demand is going to outpace supply.
I joined the SE DGT club this week and I'm loving it.
I already have a Gibson SG, and I love that too, but this PRS does things that my SG can't.
Wait a minute, don’t you do fragrance reviews? Man if many gifts.
yeah I do
That’s what I instantly thought! What a legend.
Lots of quality control problems with my last 2 SE purchases (DGT and Piezo II) - when will reviewers realise that the ones lent to them by PRS are hand picked set up specially !!!! - Love the guitars but my advice is buy one you can play and inspect properly . Happy picking !
Thanks for sharing. That is something that is impossible for me to review, so I appreciate you mentioning it!
BIG WRECK! 🇨🇦
LOVE them!
Had 2 of them and within a years time the necks twisted on both of them.
Mass produced built out of green wood. Other than that it's a good guitar for the price.
This guitar hasn’t even been out for a full year? It only just released in 2023.
@@idontgrillonwed
Talking about PRS guitars in general.
Three piece neck will not twist
But does it chug 😂😂😂
some chug. But not max chug.
Wait what? He just borrowed it and dont own it. Sketchy....😂
Why is that sketchy?
They're great guitars but I've always saw them as very 'muso'. Only certain players can pull them off, mostly virtuoso guys or prog guys.
Really? I have seen a lot of players use them. I love them!
What do you mean by 'muso' ?
@@frankbrach4920 no disrespect to PRS but I suppose it does conjure negative connotations, a muso is someone who is a very studied player, as much interested in technique and perfect sound as they are music content and emotional connection. A 'muso' is to playing, as 'audiophile' is to listening.
@@DeeDeeDanone Thanks for the explanation. I'm looking for my first electric and I'm not sure about the gloss neck.

@@LoboNaranja why should I care?
The S2 22 was the one I didn’t like at all ( by the way the S2 line uses Indonesia electronics and US made body and necks, so they are hybrid’s.)
My SE Soap bar II is a outstanding quality guitar. Fit and finish is great. The pickups are nice sounding and work quite well. About the only thing I can think I MIGHT do is upgrade to Duncan P90’s. The Korean made SE’s are fantastic guitars. Core guitars are very nice, but, people have a hard time coming up with the money. There is no reason to be hard on those that can’t afford the core models……
In other words……….
@@peterjessop1878 Couldnt agree more . . A good guitar regardless of where it is made is a good guitar . .
Love the singing leads sounds you got, oh wait, that was another video.........Thumbs down
thank you. Thumbs down still help. I hope you have a better day. You seem to need it.
Boring looking guitar....Not what PRS ownership is really about.....guess if you're into that 80's Mellencamp guitar look maybe or are 60+ !!!!!
PRS seems to disagree...
@@Mexxx65 your ignorance is showing. All the Silver Sky colors ARE approved by Mayer. PRS is on record MANY TIMES saying this. Just take the L champ.
Excellent review!!!
Thank you kindly!
Love my upgraded S2...but still dont like any PRS pickups. Never had an import like SE, Squire, or Ephiphone. Always the real thing..usually with SD pickup added.
Very Boring !!!
