So in 2007, App beat Michigan in the biggest upset in CF at the time. In 2019 App was able to beat UNC and University of South Carolina. in 2022, App beat TAMU. In each of those seasons - they were not able to beat the Eagles of Georgia Southern. I am proud of the Eagles. Can't wait to see the Bowl game.

Probably not, to be honest. Erk won 3 national titles in his 8 seasons, the first 8 seasons of the whole football program. They went 83-22-1 in his time there. No way he's grinning about a win to finish 6-6 over a fellow 6-6 team.
For those who don't know...this is one of the Sun Belt's deepest and nastiest rivalries. Also, the winner of this game was bowl eligible and the loser wasn't. So there was a lot riding on this game even though the teams were both pretty mediocre this year.

@Ll L App State had some kind of scheduling mixup and had to scramble and schedule a second FCS opponent at the last minute. You can only count one FCS win as part of your six to be bowl-eligible, so they actually had to win 7 to make it since they had two FCS wins.

Non-conference games are scheduled years in advance, and Marshall went from "move from C-USA to Sun Belt not even announced" to "member of the Sun Belt" in less than a year. Ideally, they'd have fudged the divisions a bit and put Marshall in the West, allowing for a conference schedule without App State-Marshall thereby allowing them to play in a game that wouldn't count towards the conference standings (California and Colorado did this in 2011, the latter's first year in the Pac-12, and UNC and Wake Forest sometimes do this just for the hell of it because the ACC's eight-game conference schedule (and thus, only two crossover games) means that conference rivals can sometimes go way too long without facing each other. But they didn't do this, and as such, both Appalachian State and Marshall were forced to find new opponents on short notice. Heartbreaking loss. One question on App State's last running play before the field goal. Why didn't the coaching staff run the ball toward the middle of the field and not the left hash. Would have made the kick a whole lot easier. We need better coaching in critical game time decisions. Thanks.

Awful spot on third down for App State. It matters because they could have scored or their kicker made a FG. I would say more likely than not, App State got screwed by bad officiating. The third down spot was horrible.

After struggling all year, and prior years, this game was was a big one. This hatred is real. Playing our rivals for both a bowl game AND to not allow App to bowl (breaking their bowling streak since joining the fbs), while beating them in double overtime after missing a chip shot of a fg. Yeah, rushing the field was warranted.
You’re congratulating a team that goes 6-6? Georgia Southern fans obviously have low expectations. But then again, they have to if Clay Helton is the coach. He wrote the book on mediocrity and incompetence.
